I have a building from the mid-late 1800's, original lime plaster walls. I have not tried this method but am going to attempt it and been researching quite a bit. Plaster material is hard to find in my area. Structolite is about all I can buy when available. The basecoat is pretty soft in a lot of the building and good vibration when I rap on the walls. I did install plaster washers as you have. I have read where some people use all purpose joint compound, have you tried this method with joint compound or know if it will work?

People often skim coat with durabond 90.
I have used structolite as basecoat(only because I couldn't get structobase), then patched with durabond 90.
I have then skim coated/finish coated with gauged lime.
Lime finish coat is joyful to work with.
If you come from a background of using joint compound, you dont realize how sticky it is. For that reason, it is difficult to smooth out.
Lime finish coat is completely different! The more you trowel it, the smoother it becomes.
I encourage you to give it a try.
And plaster weld makes it all stick together. It is a great product.

Awesome info! What would you say you got for square foot coverage per 50 lb bag of Structolite? I know the official specs say 25 square feet per bag, but I wonder if it stretches a little more over drywall rather than a lath substrate?

K Jo Definitely way more than 25 if all you’re doing is skimming like us. One 50 lb bag probably made about it about 150 square feet for us. But all we’re doing is skimming over plaster or patches of drywall and embedding he screen.

Didn't this work stand proud of the grounds? I cant tell the material thickness.

25 years doing this type of work and I'd just patch what is there with plaster and repaint it

Don't like simplicity ? Why would the wall need mesh in the plaster ?
Is the plaster holding the wall together?

    Why the mesh?
