He’s actually singing a love song to Love, not a particular person, but the emotion.
The song is actually about God. Love is God. If you pay close attention to the lyrics, you will see that it’s about God. “Love some people use your name in vain”, and those who have faith in you sometimes go astray are examples.
Yeah, I heard that this song was about God and he was supposed to come out as a Christian artist but they changed the lyrics to Love because they thought he’d be more successful going another route
Idk how true it is but I remember hearing he was originally supposed to be saying lord but then changed it to love.

This Song hits different with Adult eyes and ears. It's the epitome of True Artistry, because It can be a love song to Love Itself, a parent to a child, a child to a parent, a romantic partner, a Lifelong Friend. MS was on some Genius Ilk, with this Masterpiece.
What I love about this song is that it can be interpreted any kind of way. It doesn't mention romantic love at all. That's why in the video you see all different types of relationships. I even heard somewhere that this song is about God and if that is true that would even fit perfectly. This is one of my favorites from him.
