Regarding medical scientific writing, try applying to medical communication agencies, where most of the jobs are at. You can work as a medical writer or an account executive, and still use your science skills for helping pharma clients with publications. Noone talks much about these companies but there are more opportunities there than a university or media company. The big companies include oxford pharmagenesis, nucleus global, apothecom, and Fleischman Hillard.
Thank you! Glad it’s genuinely helpful for people! 😊 My PhD is in the filed of cancer immunotherapy development - I am looking at how we could stimulate and utilise a particular type of immune cells for more potent tumour killing 🔬

Hi! I definitely did organic chemistry as part of my biomed degree but it was completely doable! As with any degree it’s about the level of effort you put into it.
Research Diaries I think the IBMS accredited degrees include a large proportion of chemistry in general because of their requirement to teach biochemistry as the pathology discipline. Organic chemistry for me was lumped into first year when they taught broad chemistry, second year there was a small amount but only that which was relevant to human biochemistry, and the final year there was essentially none!

Could you please tell me after the biomed degree what are the good field to purse the postgraduate studies in biomedical science...I dont have any idea about the options.
Hi! That really depends on what you are interested in within the field of biomedical science. There are different kinds of Masters courses and PhD programmes available in different fields of biomedical science so I suggest you check those out :) Maybe have a think of what particular areas of biomed you are interested in (eg. cell biology, immunology, cancer sciences, etc), and you could search for postgraduate programmes in these areas. Also, some universities offer Masters in Biomedical Science/Research, which is more broad in case of you are not sure about exactly what you are interested in. So yes, check the postgrad courses at different unis and see what you fancy!
@@research.diaries Thanks a lot for replying.I will be really grateful if u can share some links regarding this.and I would like to know what is the most appropriate field for biomed postgraduate which have more jobs...and finally want to know wether there are any good fields related to nutrition in biomed
I think it depends on the university (eg. University of Birmingham say that BTEC is not accepted for biomed but it is accepted at Birmingham City University). Also, if Psychology is an A-level then it may be accepted as long as you have minimum 1 or 2 science A-levels (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) but you have to check with the universities you are considering applying to as the requirements do vary 👍🏻
Again, this depends on the university you are applying to. I did 3 science A-levels so there were no questions about entry requirements, but do check the course entry information for each university you would like to apply to.
Hi, I did applied science and psychology in college and I am now studying biomed. You would have to look at different university websites and check grade boundaries. If they take BTEC along with an A-level then just aim for those grades.
Hi Mam, I am currently studying BSc. (Hons) biomedical science in India. I am much interested to do summer research internships in UK. Can you know any internship in UK for international students.
Hey! Can you please tell me which uni are you studying in and how to apply for biomedical Sciences in India? I'm in grade 12 now so I'd love some help :)
@@kirayoshikage1000 In india many colleges and universities are offering this course.but most of them about 95% of colleges/universities offers three year of this course. but I am studying in sri ramachandra institute of higher education and research (deemed university). This is highly ranked and competitive to enter. This university is offering 4year of B.sc(hons)biomedical science course. So, which is able to do masters in America, Canada. Because these countries are always ask 4year degree. And also there are more students from other states and NRI students from other countries also come here to study this course.
Hey Maria!! It was really helpful information. I am really wanting to take part in scientific training programme. But I haven't done any placement (just BSc in biomed) also my university is not accredited. So in that case what should I do? And will I get paid while doing the stp? It would be great if u could kindly reply. Thanks
Hi Nishat! Thank you, I’m glad you found the video useful 😊 Yes, you do get paid in the STP! I think the pay is at around Band 6, which is £25-28k but you will have to double check that as the salaries tend to change over time (but it will be something along those lines) 👍🏻 In terms of experience, I think any lab experience you may have gained during biomed is useful (eg. lab practicals). And you can check the FAQs or contact the STP to check if you are ok to apply as you are or whether you will need some more experience before applying! You can find the contact details here: www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/contact-us I hope this helps! 😊
I applied for this but got put in the reserve list then was unsuccessful getting an interview which covid didn't help with also. The only big problem is how limited vacancies are for this. Im also curious also that do you get straight into a clinical scientist job after the training or do you have to search for a vacancy? If the latter is the case personally I found clinical scientist roles hardly pop up and those that do generally are for those who specialises in microbiology, immunology or biochemistry. Basically those who did a specialism which wasn't this you may not find or even get into the job due to rarity and competition.
I am currently studying a bachelor in biotechnology I want to pursue studying in the medical field but I am not sure what should I study Do you advice me to study pharmacology or medical genetics or biomedical science?
Yes you can 😊 A few people from my cohort have gone into business after completing their degree. You learn a lot of transferrable skills during biomed that can be applied in a range of industries, both scientific and non-scientific 👍🏻
Hi, would you say that the university I go to should be IBMS accredited if applying if I want a career in research? Does is also have to be HCPC approved? And if the uni does not have this accreditation and are required, how would I apply for that? Thank you
Hiya! If you want to do research, then the university does not have to be accredited (mine wasn’t at the time of my studies and I am a research scientist) 👍🏻 However, if you want to work as a healthcare biomedical scientist then you do need to have this accreditation (ie. do the course at a university that is accredited). Having said that though, I think you may still be able to work as a healthcare scientist if you did a course that is not accredited, but I am not sure how you go about that, sorry (possibly by gaining an extra qualification after biomed but you’ll have to double check). Hope this help!
You can look at the individual university entry requirements for medicine programme for details. Basically you can either apply for the shortened 4-year graduate entry medicine course after completing your biomed degree, or you can equally apply for the standard 5-year course (I mentioned these in my video). Sometimes you may be able to transfer to medicine during your biomed studies but I honestly don’t know the details of this. Check with the universities you are considering 👍🏻
Do you think that a biomedical science MSci gives a disadvantage to getting into research, than doing biomed BSc and MRes in something instead? Really need your help as I need to make my decision tomorrow. Thank youu
Hiya! I don’t think it will be a disadvantage. I know a person who got an MSci and then did a PhD. He is now a university lecturer. Generally, for lab research, both BSc+MSci and BSc+MRes would be fine as long as you will get the lab experience during the course of your studies, so it’s up to you to make that call 👍🏻
@@research.diaries Hiya, I mean my undergraduate course is a MSci, which is bachelors integrated with masters together, so the masters are not specifically MRes. So would that make me disadvantaged to someone who's doing BSc and MRes separately, in order to go into research please? I'm also not looking to do PhD. Thank you, your answer would be highly appreciated!!
I think it really depends on the course content. If you want to do research (I am assuming you mean lab research) then you need to make sure that your course(s) provide lab experience. If both MSci and BSc/MRes route offer that, then I don’t think choosing one of them will put you at any disadvantage over choosing the other route 😊
A couple of examples: - shadowing a doctor (eg. in a hospital or in the community practice). - volunteering in a hospital, care home, or organisations like British Red Cross or St John Ambulance (where you provide first aid at various events). There are other kinds of work experience/volunteering you can do, of course, but these are the most common ones I’ve heard of 😊 It’s worth speaking to career advisors at your school/college/university and also going to medicine open days at universities where you can find out all the information you need 👍🏻 The admissions teams at universities should also be able to provide some advice with this. I hope this helps.
Hiya! I think they did a Masters in one of the London Business schools, and then they went to work for some companies and eventually started their own business.
I think you can! See here: careers.astrazeneca.com/r-and-d-graduate-programme This is AstraZeneca’s graduate scheme 😊 There may be other such schemes at other pharmaceutical industries too!
Hiya! You sit your final exams during the final year of your degree but once you have the degree you won’t need another exam to prove/get your qualification. Depending on what you need to do, you may need to obtain further qualifications though (eg. Masters and/or PhD).
@@research.diaries ok. What about working in an industry, do u need registration? What about courses like MSc cancer pharmacology and MSc cancer immunotherapy. Which one do you think is best? Do we need registration after such courses?
No, you don’t need any registrations if you want to work in industry. You can just do the Masters degree and then apply for jobs 👍🏻 As for those MSc courses, it really depends on your interests.
hi there..I am simlee I did a bachelor degree in physiotherapy at year 2012.due to some personal reason I could not do any masters.now I want to do Mres in biomedical science in uk.my question is am I eligible for that?which universities are good?is there good job opportunities for international students?can I bring my 4 years old daughter there?if you can answer me it will be great help.
Hi Simlee. I honestly don’t know how the system works for International applicants as I was a home/UK student. For MRes in biomedical science you would usually need some kind of a science degree or (as some universities say) a “relevant degree”, which is rather ambiguous so your physio degree may be fine but you need to ask the university you would be applying to! There are definitely plenty of international workers in the UK so this won’t be a problem! However, I would suggest you check with specific universities regarding the entry requirements, especially if you are an international candidate as the requirements will be different to the home/UK students. As for bringing your child over with you, I don’t see that as an issue as I heard there are grants available at universities for supporting those with children/dependants. So do check with specific universities about admissions, support and so on. I hope this is at least somewhat helpful! Sorry I cannot give a more detailed answer! I hope it works out for you 😊
Thanks dear.it is really helpful to talk to you..yes I am doing my research about all the universities. simlee_dey@yahoo.co.in my email id. Can you please share your email Id so that in case I need any kind of help. Thank you once again dear.
It depends on what career you take next. for example if you choose medicine later, yes you will ,otherwise if you choose research as an option you will be using much more complex instruments than a stethoscope
Hi there! I think this depends on the course and the university 😊 We had a prosection session rather than a full dissection on our course at the time, but I honestly don’t know about what other universities do on their BMS courses!
Hi. Not quite sure what you are asking but in the UK an MD is a 2-year postgraduate research qualification for medical/clinical professionals (ie. entry requirements specify that you have to hold an MBBS/MBChB/BDS degree, as well as have clinical and possibly some scientific experience as a medic too). You cannot do an MD if you have a biomed degree. If you want to obtain a research doctoral qualification then you can do a PhD (3-4 years in duration in the UK).
OR, if you are asking whether you can study MEDICINE directly rather than after biomed, then yes you can! You can apply for medicine with or without a biomed degree 👍🏻
Whilst studying biomed you will be doing some chemistry-type maths (eg. calculating dilutions and concentrations of buffers). So yes, there will be maths involved.
@@research.diaries but actually in India we have physics, chemistry, bio, we don't study maths in high school, so I think this would be difficult for me. Should I choose this coirse6
Oh Maths as a subject isn’t an official requirement to study this course! You will be fine with bio, chem and physics (I did those at A-level myself in the UK and was fine)😊
Hello, i have a question ..i.am going to.study biomedical science this September and am.wondering if even though i.do.an accredited degree, and in the future i decide not to go.into healthcare, can my degree qualify to .work in industry or pharmaceuticals companies?

@@chathuanushki6331hello did you do biomed degree? is it hard to find jobs?
Are there any biomedical msc programs in the field of cosmetology
Hello can you do biomedical science with applied science and psychology
I think it depends on the university (eg. University of Birmingham say that BTEC is not accepted for biomed but it is accepted at Birmingham City University). Also, if Psychology is an A-level then it may be accepted as long as you have minimum 1 or 2 science A-levels (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) but you have to check with the universities you are considering applying to as the requirements do vary 👍🏻
Research Diaries ok what about if you have applied science instead of bio and Chem considering that it worth 2 a levels
@@Yopilopi777 update : im now planning to do psychology
Can you get into Radiography after biomedical science degree?
Hi! I’m honestly not sure of the answer to this. You probably can but you have to check the individual course entry requirements for details.
If pursuing in forensic science field, does it also require IBMS accreditation?
Hi Mam, I am currently studying BSc. (Hons) biomedical science in India.
I am much interested to do summer research internships in UK.
Can you know any internship in UK for international students.
Hey! Can you please tell me which uni are you studying in and how to apply for biomedical Sciences in India? I'm in grade 12 now so I'd love some help :)

This is highly ranked and competitive to enter. This university is offering 4year of B.sc(hons)biomedical science course.
So, which is able to do masters in America, Canada. Because these countries are always ask 4year degree.
And also there are more students from other states and NRI students from other countries also come here to study this course.

Can I become a pediatrician with a biomedical science degree?
Incredible video. But i didn't get it. Can we works as an physiotherapist if we have BS Biomedical sciences degree or have to do more?
Thank you! No, you can’t work as a physio directly after your degree. You need to do a physio course afterwards 👍🏻
OKay, then if i want to be pharmaceutical sales representative them what should i specialized in3rd year of biomedical sciences?
@@research.diaries thank u so much. ❤️❤️
No problem! Best of luck with it all 😊
I applied for this but got put in the reserve list then was unsuccessful getting an interview which covid didn't help with also.
Which university are you studying

Can you go into business after a biomedical science degree?
Yes you can 😊 A few people from my cohort have gone into business after completing their degree. You learn a lot of transferrable skills during biomed that can be applied in a range of industries, both scientific and non-scientific 👍🏻
Hi, is it possible to do biomedical engineering after this degree?
Hiya! Probably 😊 But check the individual course entry requirements to make sure 👍🏻
If I have a bio-medical science degree after that can I transfer to MBBS degree..????
Yes you can. Biomedical Science is one of the degrees accepted by the medicine programmes 👍🏻
Ooohhh...thanks..how can I do it...??? What is that procedure..??
Generally, for lab research, both BSc+MSci and BSc+MRes would be fine as long as you will get the lab experience during the course of your studies, so it’s up to you to make that call 👍🏻
...the call for which route you choose I mean (msci or mres)
Can we study haematology msc after biomedical sciences
I think you can 😊
Is it possible to get job in uk after completing my ug in biomedical sciences
what kind of work experience is the best when applying to medicine
A couple of examples:
- shadowing a doctor (eg. in a hospital or in the community practice).
@@research.diaries thank you
Hi how did they go from biomed to business?
Hiya! I think they did a Masters in one of the London Business schools, and then they went to work for some companies and eventually started their own business.
can you work in a pharmaceutical company with a biomedical sciences degree?
I think you can! See here: careers.astrazeneca.com/r-and-d-graduate-programme
This is AstraZeneca’s graduate scheme 😊 There may be other such schemes at other pharmaceutical industries too!
Would there be an examination after getting a degree to practice biomedical science?
Hiya! You sit your final exams during the final year of your degree but once you have the degree you won’t need another exam to prove/get your qualification. Depending on what you need to do, you may need to obtain further qualifications though (eg. Masters and/or PhD).
Hi, is it mandatory that we must register at HCPC for working as a biomedical scientist? Can we work without registration ?
Hiya! I think you have to register.
@@research.diaries ok. What about working in an industry, do u need registration?
What about courses like MSc cancer pharmacology and MSc cancer immunotherapy. Which one do you think is best? Do we need registration after such courses?
@@research.diaries thanks for reply
No, you don’t need any registrations if you want to work in industry. You can just do the Masters degree and then apply for jobs 👍🏻 As for those MSc courses, it really depends on your interests.
You’ll have to check the course content to see which suits your interests better
hi there..I am simlee I did a bachelor degree in physiotherapy at year 2012.due to some personal reason I could not do any masters.now I want to do Mres in biomedical science in uk.my question is am I eligible for that?which universities are good?is there good job opportunities for international students?can I bring my 4 years old daughter there?if you can answer me it will be great help.

Hello Maam can u pls tell me is there is any dissection in BMS 😁
Hi there! I think this depends on the course and the university 😊 We had a prosection session rather than a full dissection on our course at the time, but I honestly don’t know about what other universities do on their BMS courses!
@@research.diaries oh okay thanks a lot....im glad u replied 🙂
Hi I am an Ann after getting bmd can I take MD directly
Thank u miss

Whilst studying biomed you will be doing some chemistry-type maths (eg. calculating dilutions and concentrations of buffers). So yes, there will be maths involved.
