This brought back a lot of memories for me. Jamaican kid born in NY and raised in Toronto. From being a massive Canadiens fan to being the only black kid playing ice hockey on the pond. Another part of our collective story that isn’t known. Appreciate the Pivot fam for this!!!!!
What are you asking why about.... throughout the interview he cited the way he was raised by his Jamaican father and mentioned that he grew up in a West Indian/Caribbean household. What part of that has anything to do with being black or not black?
@Alecia Burch, yes, every Caribbean/West Indian I know loves to tell you as often as possible about their roots...it is a wonderful and proud experience to witness.
He is the reason I fell in love with hockey. 2014 playoffs were one of his top 3 performances of his career. Especially the Eastern Semis vs the Bruins. Everytime he stepped on the ice when he was with MTL something was going to happen. He was THAT guy on the back end. He was THE PLAYMAKER on the team that needed one very badly given how mediocre MTLs offence was throughout his time there. After he was traded he joined a team which was already stacked on defensemen. He couldn’t be THAT guy anymore but he still produced well in NSH for his first 2 years. Especially 2018. It truly hurts that his career was so restrained by the idiotic head coach and GM of MTL at the time who wouldn’t let him be himself or play like he could. Nowadays defensemen are given so much freedom and support to do whatever they want. Subban was always restricted with what he could do on the ice. He always kept it professional and still gave it his all. Sadly the injuries just slowed him down dramatically after 2019. Had he been allowed to be himself in MTL and played with no restrictions and under a team with that modern freedom mindset for defencemen he would’ve prospered into something greater no doubt. Not saying it isn’t already great though. Subban was such an amazing player and his years from 2012-18 were his peak. So thankful for he’s done and the impact he left on me. He was by far my favourite player growing up.
Haven't watched an episode in a couple months, turned this one on as soon as I saw who the guest was. PK shook the hockey world for the good and set new standards for the NHL -Canucks fan

Excellent interview. We loved Subban here in Montreal. Good guy who's personality clashed with low key quiet hockey team culture. Subban was a personality too big for Habs management to handle. Subban has good values and his parents are amazing people.
Wow that question with Ryan Clark citing Brendan Gallagher shows that either RC (or his producer/staff) does more research than a lot of other American sports shows. Respect. Edit: 16:17 glad to see PK acknowledge the REAL reason why he was ultimately traded away from Montreal; jealousy
Guy in the green stripe shirt is a really good interviewer. Knowledgeable about his guest , engaging , well spoken. Definitely gonna check out more of his work
I was born in 1988 myself and started playing ice hockey in 7th Grade. Having parents that immigrated to America was one of the best things that could've happened to me. Like P.K.'s parents, my parents never allowed racism to be an excuse to pursue hockey or anything else in life. I'm a Flyers fan but P.K. was always one of my favorite players and its cool to hear so many relatable things from one of the most exciting players I've seen.
I would like PK as a special emergency co-host or something. He vibes well with the vibe of the show and he offers a such perspective in being a hockey player from Canada. If one of the guys fall out for a trip or something and they need somebody to drop in, I think PK would be cool
I so enjoyed this interview. As a black kid playing hockey on the south side of Chicago in 1968 with dreams then of playing in the NHL yet having no idea of the challenge. I excelled even though I didn't play organized until 1975. The only reason I went or wanted to go to college was to play D1. I just wasn't good enough due to not getting the training and opportunity, yet Hockey changed my life.
Really good dude, don't follow hockey but always knew how nice he was on the ice. Massive respect on his character and attitude, and salute to the Pivot crew on a great interview!!!
Continued greatness! From the three different perfectly grouped hosts to the wise minded guest in PK, the Pivot has outperformed the expectations once again. Keep up the greatness!
This was a great interview to watch. The day Pk was traded from Montreal was the day I started not giving a crap about my team or the game. If a player of his caliber and heart could have that happen to him I didn't want to waste my time on a team that didn't consider loyalty and true talent a value. Watched the tribute last night and cried like a baby.
This guy has helped countless people in times of need, countless kids that are battling things no one should have to, countless lives were affected positively by this man. He is an inspiration and person anyone should strive to be. My hat is off to this man. That’s the legacy he should be remembered for. My hat is also off to his parents they should be VERY proud.
I’m from Nashville and I seen we had PK a black man on the team I had to get into to watching the game cause I loved to see a Brother doing the outta the ordinary type of thing and now I got to all the games and it’s All because of PK
I live and grew up in Ottawa. I hated PK as a player because he was so good against us. However, he became one of my all time favourite athletes because of his contribution to the Children’s Hospital of Montreal. He signed his big contract and IMMEDIATELY DONATED 10% OF HIS CONTRACT TO THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. What an incredible person!
I wish Montreal fans appreciated him more. Carey Price disappointed me. He disrespected pk after he got traded. Like the coach telling pk he wasn't allowed to celebrate a certain way . Montreal is just toxic though. If you not if French background you don't stand a chance .
Glad you guys interviewed PK. He's a hockey real one and good guy. I didn't know about him until he played in the World Juniors for Canada. But, by then I was well into my hockey coaching career. So, it felt good to once again see another black hockey player in the NHL. His personality is good for hockey.
Dope interview! The pivot continues to impress me. Even if you don’t fully know the athlete you leave with a good understanding of who the person is. Plus get a great honest conversation. The pivot is dope. Salute 🫡
as one of his many fans and coming from mtl we always loved Subban and his donation to the Montreal Children's Hospital will always be looked upon with respect and admiration, as happy as I am that he retired without any serious injury I can't help but feel disappointed he didn't get to win the stanley cup
I love how I just seen the pivot guys on First Take. Then they have this podcast. I love it. Also I love how they celebrate each other openly as black men. I appreciate y'all brothers.
Very good interview! Very honest and refreshing to hear what was really going on with PK and how he really felt. He was a big inspiration for sure! He's gonna have a hell of a broadcasting career!
Thank you my grandson and I appreciate it and we enjoyed it 😀 I couldn't get enough. My grandson is playing hockey he knows everything about him. To see this black man meant the world to him
I’m from Montreal and I’m the same generation as PK, I followed closely his career and what I could say is this. 1. The French media weren’t ready for him and until today we have Norman Flynn in the radio giving his racist thoughts on PK 2. The organization wanted him to act white. He’s not from that cloth and it bothered them. 3. He’s the city guy that I am and people that look like me aren’t often respected. We have world boxing Champions from the same complexion (Adonis Stevenson, Jean Pascal, Otis Grant) and they’re victims of the same things. 4. The biggest issue with PK and the organization including the media was that he signed the biggest contract in the history of the franchise and they couldn’t accept that even for a day. And PK refused to be a victim and they hate that. Now this city has an NBA player (Luguentz Dort) for its best payed athlete and they’re hating on it.

I LOVE PK❤ So happy y’all had him on. He got so much hate for having a personality in a league where most players are monotone and dry. And having a personality and being good as well? And all the celebs know who he is!? They were big mad, LOL! And some still are! I cannot wait until he tells everything about the trade from Montreal. I’m pretty sure most of us who follow the Habs know the real reason he was traded, but I just want him to confirm it.
This is an absolutely DOPE interview. Love this. PK def speaking to my experience in Canada... crazy to feel that representation.. Never really felt this before. Respect. Thanks, fellas.
I remember meeting PK in the summer of 2010 right after his rise to fame. He was 20. Crazy how time flies. Met him at the habs hockey camp, shared the ice with him.
Man, PK had so much influence in the NHL community on and off the ice, he brought "swagger" to the game like its never been done before. The league is STILL STUCK TO ITS OLD WAYS, you gotta be a quiet leader. his brand eventually became bigger than the team which the organization wasn't too happy about that so they tried to flip the script on his image saying he's too loud, no one likes him in the locker room, that he wants all the attention etc which wasn't true because he was just being himself but at the end of the day PK PLAYED HIS HEART OUT EACH AND EVERY NIGHT HE STEPS HIS FOOT ON THE ICE, HE UNDERSTOOD THE MEANING OF PLAYING FOR AN PRESTIGE ORGANIZATION SUCH AS THE MONTREAL CANADIENS. THE NHL IS MISSING PLAYERS LIKE PK, THAT'S WHY ITS NOT EVEN A TOP 5 MOST WATCHED SPORTS. IT'S REALLY UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING LIKE PLAYOFF HOCKEY IN THE SPRING 🔥
I cannot express enough the feeling of warmth in my heart when I see and hear men affirm each other in a meaningful way. Bravado out of the way and just genuine regard for one another. Hats off guys. ✨✨✨
Great interview guys. When PK got traded away from Montréal, I literally stopped caring about the Habs, a team I grew up loving. That interview confirms what I was seeing from the outside. PK never seemed to get credit for his performance, it was always about trying to change him. What he brought was never valued and it’s a damn shame. When it was announced that there would be a homecoming on January 12th in Montréal, I got myself tickets as soon as possible. Can’t wait to cheer for him one last time. ❤
Same bro. I used to watch every game after doing my homework as a kid since the Koivu days. When PK joined the team, I feel like he made it cool to be a Habs fan. Now I will only watch the playoffs if they are winning. It's so hard to cheer support the organization after that bs
same for me, grew up obsessed with the habs...the day the trade happened I took all of my habs gear stuffed it in a box, haven't worn or displayed a thing nor have I watched a game since. that trade to me confirmed that the team doesn't care about winning.
I've watched the Habs religiously since the 80s. When they traded Roy and started forcing french on all the players it left a sour taste in my mouth. When they traded PK I gave up on the team entirely.
Pk is such a great human being. I remember that series against Boston that he talks about around 45 minutes and he completely stole the show. One of the highlights of his career. I'm glad for him that he retired and puts his energies where its best needed. A true leader and nice man.
PK... Huge Bruins fan here, your brother never got a fair shake to compete for the #1 job for us. Thanks for representing yourself as true great guy you are. Enjoy retirement!
Hearing him explain the tumultuous Contract Negotiations between him and Montreal is eye 👁 opening. 99 times out of 100, the Organizations make the players out to be greedy mercenaries when it's them trying to lowball the player In addition, the Organizations have this uncanny way of selling the negative narrative to the fan base that they've done all they could to retain the rights of the player. Appreciate the candor in which P.K. is discussing this. You can tell in this discussion that Fred, Ryan and Channing understand exactly where P.K. is coming from. They've been there. Again, kudos to the PIVOT crew for having him on.
I love the fact that he refuses to be a victim of his circumstances. Understanding that it's a problem, but not making it all about race is very important. We need more individuals like that.
Great interview of PK. Ask a question and he flys with the conversation with confidence and knowledge. Sad and enraged that we still deal with racism and placism! Many, many parallels, even though different sports, between PK and Cam Newton. 👏 to PK quitting before major injuries. Congratulations for having great parents centering you for life. Hockey parents are really a different breed for focusing kids. Keep up all the philanthropic causes for your self-fulfillment man! 💪
great interview. pk is a great guy with an amazing attitude. great example for young athletes or people in general how you can rise to the top despite facing many obstacles.
6 minutes in to this video I’m already smiling and happy that I clicked the link to check it out. I’ve never heard of PK Subban up until this day. My whole family is Jamaican. I have family In Sudbury as well and my little cousin Jason is President of his son Massa’s hockey league and Massa Innis is a very talented hockey player. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I am 50 years old and love old school hockey. BUT, that being said, I loved what PK brought to the Canadiens. Hockey has to keep up with generations and it hasnt. PK brought a new wind and a refreshing one to an old and dusty logo. Love the Habs always have, but they need to grow beyound the old time hockey. I followed PK to nashville and i had never ever followed another NHL team before PK. Only had one wish and it was to see him finnish his career in MTL. :-(
Love PK and this Pod, I'm a baseball guy though... We need some more baseball players on here. I'd love to here from Tim Anderson, Mookie, Trout etc etc. Much love RC, Fred & Chan!!
Ryan does the intro, let the guys come in with great questions, let the person tell their story, don't talk over the guest. Professional. We will watch even though some of us don't know who this guy is. And that's ok, we all learn. I watched him because I was a fan of black athletes all over the diaspora.

@@belindalindsey7056 yup I just like they don't interrupt like how other shows host would.
This is an absolutely DOPE interview.
Love this. PK def speaking to my experience in Canada... crazy to feel that representation.. Never really felt this before.
Respect. Thanks, fellas.
Another great interview. Thank you, guys!!!
Had never heard of the gentleman but this interview has me wanting to know more about this guy. Great interview as always and this show is the best!
as a huge hockey and football fan, it's always amazing to see players from the two leagues interact with one another :) PK's a kingggggg
What a great interview, I'm slowly becoming a hockey fan. What a normal but balanced upbringing, kudos to his parents!!
I cannot express enough the feeling of warmth in my heart when I see and hear men affirm each other in a meaningful way. Bravado out of the way and just genuine regard for one another. Hats off guys. ✨✨✨
What a great show!! I know nothing abt hockey but I was so enlightened by PK’s story and his bright personality! 👏🏾👏🏾
RC “your black enough to know, if that edge ain’t right “🤣🤣
Great interview guys.
Same!!! It's show racism and also the mtl medi the comments bull that they put out on him turn me away from the team.
same for me, grew up obsessed with the habs...the day the trade happened I took all of my habs gear stuffed it in a box, haven't worn or displayed a thing nor have I watched a game since. that trade to me confirmed that the team doesn't care about winning.
I've watched the Habs religiously since the 80s. When they traded Roy and started forcing french on all the players it left a sour taste in my mouth. When they traded PK I gave up on the team entirely.
Great interview, PK a solid dude.
Excellent interview
Pk is such a great human being. I remember that series against Boston that he talks about around 45 minutes and he completely stole the show. One of the highlights of his career. I'm glad for him that he retired and puts his energies where its best needed. A true leader and nice man.
Trailblazer, its good to hear his story. His story makes hockey interesting.
I had no idea how dope pk was tbh but this man is an amazing soul
Channing is the type of guy I would love to drop in the middle of a big family reunion and see what mess he can start!😊
PK... Huge Bruins fan here, your brother never got a fair shake to compete for the #1 job for us.
Thanks for representing yourself as true great guy you are. Enjoy retirement!
The hit on Brad Marchand.. legendary! 😃
39:15 🤣🤣🤣 "did it make ya feel special..." Needs to be a button.
Mad love pk you a gentlemen inspiring a generation of young men, on so many levels 🙏 bless up
Hearing him explain the tumultuous Contract Negotiations between him and Montreal is eye 👁 opening.
99 times out of 100, the Organizations make the players out to be greedy mercenaries when it's them trying to lowball the player
In addition, the Organizations have this uncanny way of selling the negative narrative to the fan base that they've done all they could to retain the rights of the player.
Appreciate the candor in which P.K. is discussing this.
You can tell in this discussion that Fred, Ryan and Channing understand exactly where P.K. is coming from. They've been there.
Again, kudos to the PIVOT crew for having him on.
I rooted for this guy, enjoyed his gutsy approach
Y’all should consider adding a few highlights of the guest career at the beginning or ending of the episode
Him nonchalantly,”Sunday ……my team,we kicked that arse”lol
Great interview! Lots of love and respect for PK Subban 👍🏾
As a Nashville fan we miss PK so much. Great interview
PK Subban you rocked the NHL,
Congratulations on your retirement.
Another Great Podcast Interview with My Guy PK💯👍
It is so refreshing to hear this young man's perspective not buying into the addiction to victimhood!
This show keeps producing and keeps diversity going. By far the best show out. RC, Fred, Channing , thank you for making great content.
great interview. pk is a great guy with an amazing attitude. great example for young athletes or people in general how you can rise to the top despite facing many obstacles.
Finally a hockey player
Y’all don’t miss. Another great episode 👍🏾
Great interview love Pivots diversity!
One of the most articulate and dense guests of the show. Congratulations Gents!
Love this interview
Love PK and this Pod, I'm a baseball guy though... We need some more baseball players on here. I'd love to here from Tim Anderson, Mookie, Trout etc etc. Much love RC, Fred & Chan!!
Josh Hamilton would've been a perfect guest. Not sure about now but he would've been ideal.
Ryan does the intro, let the guys come in with great questions, let the person tell their story, don't talk over the guest. Professional. We will watch even though some of us don't know who this guy is. And that's ok, we all learn.
I watched him because I was a fan of black athletes all over the diaspora.
