- Shakespeare Salt tripod review and modifications that discards the small fiddly locking nuts making it easier and quicker to set up and take down. Reduce the weight by 20-30%.
Some simple Shakespeare Salt tripod modifications that you do at home with just basic tools and basic DIY skills and for very little money.
No more reaching around the back to adjust the cups height, that knob has been removed and reused.
No need to remove and store your cups separately.
Rod rest loop holders with no fiddly little knob.
Reduce the weight from 20% or upto 30%. (Depending on hole sizes).
Only basic DIY skills and tools required.
Materials required are low cost and readily available.
Quicker and easier to set up and take down.
No need to worry about loosing the small knobs
Sea fishing, beach fishing, shore fishing or whichever way you like to call it is tough going most of the time especially in the cold winter months so why not try and make things a little easier, no more fiddling around with the Shakespeare Salt small locking nuts, especially difficult to use when you hands and fingers are very cold.
These mod's should only take a few of hours to do unless you go for the full repaint then obviously it will take longer as paint and lacquer needs preparing and drying time.
Either way all the mods are relevantly cheap to do and eliminate the frustration out of setting up and taking down for easy storage in your rod rest bag.
Whether you decide to do none, one or two 'or' all the improvements the result/s gives the feeling of either should of done this long ago, why didn't I think of that, I'm glad I know now, but best of all- chuffed. Either way all the mods are relevantly cheap to do and eliminate the frustration out of setting up and taking down for easy storage in your rod rest bag and you will have the best fishing tripod around.

That's absolutely Fantastic Rob. Really well done on that. The rest mount mod and the cup holder mod are two that I could most definitely benefit from in the future! Awesome video. Well done!
Thanks for your positive feedback. I'm so pleased that you found the video to be useful and that you may do a couple of the modifications yourself. An instructional video is to follow shortly.
Brilliant info, the weight loss from just a few holes is wild! All makes a big difference on a long walk 👍👍🙂
Yes I was surprised myself how much weight was lost, it makes a big difference . Thank you for watching and commenting.
Just been watching some of your videos I have now subscribed to you. Brilliant stuff very interesting. Keep them coming. Thanks Steve.
Apologies for late reply. Glad you find my videos interesting, more coming soon.

Great video rob 👌 some good tips, i could do with reducing the weight of the tripod. Look forward to how to video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it buddy. The how-to video will be uploaded in a couple of days hopefully. Thank you.
Just watched your video, I like others took the bars off, but fitted an Ian Goulds leg lock kit, slightly lighter, but also very stable, plus cut 12” off the lower extendable bar, plus some holes akin to yours, not as many, but smaller also.
Original is a nice tripod, but heavy
Go Steady

Surely the lighter your tripod is the easier it will be blown over, or pulled over?
Maybe, but it would take quite a gust to blow over like any rod stand. Setting up the rod stand properly in the first instance usually helps.
how did you make the top rod rest just slip in?😂
You should sell a mod kit, would love to make these mods but dont have the tools for some of them! 🤙🤙🤙🤙
I thought about making some mod kits but then I know a certain tackle manufacturer has looked at this video and I have a suspicion that soon a new simpler to use rod rest will be on the market. Glad you liked it.
@@1RodRob that's a shame mind
@@riccosuabe I thought long and hard of whether I should manufacture a new style rod rest but I'm snowed under with products at the moment, some will be available later this year.
@@1RodRob champion! Look forward to seeing it 👍👍
Hi Rob, a friend is looking to paint his stand black. I mentioned this video to him as id seen it on your channel before. Did you use etching primer or anything prior to painting? Also what paint did you use and how has it held up? Specifically around the expendable legs? Cheers
Gotta admit, you did good. There really are too many things unnecessarily complicated, and heavy.
Glad you liked the ideas. Thanks for commenting.
I made a light bar for my tripod cost about £4 to make no need for tip lights on the rods now
That sounds great Brian, I like a bit of initiative!
@@1RodRob I Also turned the tripod into a three rod tripod instead of a 2. I also think a lot of equipment is over engineered thing could be a lot simpler. My tripod is a nerus tripod not an expensive make but does the trick
@@BrianSmith-ho5ps I use feeder extension arm for third rod. Two rods are allowed for a reason, the reason being in a heat of a battle not having to try pulling thru two rods - lines in the water.
Brill video did a another company come out with a tripod after !!
Not that I know of. The push-in top cross bar is particularly a big improvement for ease-of-use for sure. Thanks for your positive comment.
