- This tiny Georgia town was one of many that never fully recovered after the boll weevil decimated the cotton industry in the South. But the future is looking brighter after one couple provided an unlikely spark, and accidentally started an urban farming revolution smack in the middle of downtown… from front yard gardens to a mushroom-growing warehouse.

What a wonderful couple, giving back to the community. I respect how he has acknowledged the past hurts with slavery.. thank you. I love how you and Susie are thinking about the whole community including race relations. The urban garden concept to support local businesses is amazing and exciting to watch, I so enjoyed this episode.
It made my heart happy cry when you talked about the past agricultural energy. To me I saw all the things you are doing as healing all that energy. Thank you. And thank you Mr. Currey for making sure we got to hear some of the farm life happening. Haha.
I'm a young engineering student right now, but I strive to be like this guy and give back in a similar way once I'm older. One that makes me happy but also helps people through growing food! For now, I volunteer. But once I get that engineering money and influence, I will use it for good and think of these videos! Thank you for doing such a great service

@@pameladavis895 currency notes printed is just a debt token to keep humanity enslaved for eternity with constant debts. When man came on this planet there were no bankers and currency notes. So the same logic applies today that we do not require any bankers or currency printed by these aholes. Mother nature has provided abundant resources to feed all on the planet if we decide to take care of her.

I absolutely adore this episode! I just moved to Georgia from Utah a few months ago and my husband and I have a dream to live on 5 acres and just garden. We're definitely planning a trip to Hancock county to look for the perfect place to call home!

In the UK we call it No Dig. I’ve been gardening that way for years and it works well. I tend to mulch with chicken bedding and weed using a hoe but it’s easy to do and quite relaxing as there aren’t many weeds.

Per usual, Joe you have inspired me! I have a question to help my daughter. She lives in Auburn, Alabama, and has a backyard full of fire ants. Almost everything she plants ends up destroyed by these critters (thankfully we don't have them in southwest Ohio!). She's tried raised beds and containers but they have found their way into these, too. How can I help her grow veggies for her family that won't be overtaken by these nuisances? Thanks for all your help!
Hi Melinda. Chickens are great for exterminating the ants. Maybe give them a chance. 😀

Hi Melinda -- I live on the east coast of Canada and I have European fire ants in my small backyard. Chickens are not an option for me in my urban setting. I do grow in raised beds and the ants find their way up into tall raised beds (4 ft off the ground) as well. I don't use any chemicals in my garden so options are limited. The best thing I've found is Diatomaceous Earth - sprinkled where the ants congregate -- edges of raised beds, etc. Unfortunately, I have to reapply frequently since we have a very rainy climate. It does kill the ants that I can see, but of course not the nests -- I've never seen the nests -- the ants just move off to another location. I have seen a local gardener have great success with a Borax solution, which he says kills the colony-- I haven't tried it though. I do find, though, that they don't harm my vegetable garden -- just the gardener. And I can't pick any of my flowers since they will be covered in ants. So, I basically dress in my "hazmat" suit and continue to garden, since it's my passion! Good luck to your daughter!
