Patternicity I believe his point was that Star Industries doesn't resemble Tesla in any way. Stark Industries, as far as I know, was founded on the basis of, war for profit. Where as, Elon Musk, and, his companies may just save us all.

***** not just yet because battery degradation is a lot more expensive than the power it buffers so this is not a cost rational option yet. More a luxury cool factor but if battery life and price becomes such that its cost is modest then it's conceivable that you will see houses that doesn't use grid power in some sunny regions and if super cheap then even in darker wintery areas as well. No risk of it happening anytime soon though as it takes a very substantial battery backup to feed for instance a hungry tesla car coming home.
It's particularly moot in regions where power companies allow power to flow back so you only pay for net use so you get buffering for free.

With Tesla's new Model S 70D, the PowerWall/PowerPack, their new Pre-Owned online sales, the beginning of Model X production, the construction of the Gigafactory, and designs for Model 3, Tesla is going to be successful as hell this year through next - and passed that! Their stock is going to rise like crazy, as well as their profits, production scale, and workforce.
Long live Elon Musk, Tesla Energy, and Tesla Motors, Inc.!

acdcfreak5745 What are you talking about? If the solution would be great, there would be lots of money in it!!! Its not a solution, the battery pack is uneconomical. That Musk presents this as a revolutionary step is ABSURD! There are lots of companies out there doing the exact same thing. He is just repackaging lithium ion batteries in a fancy package. This system is not competitive with grid energy and gasoline generators as backup. This battery has a output of 2kw, which is another joke! That cant power a house!

    • @ZGuitar93
      @ZGuitar93 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Paul van de Loo You are clearly not very educated on how this all works, are you? Considering the relatively low cost of the batteries (I mean really, look at the cost of a typical mid-level car for reference), it's a very practical solution. And you're complaining about the output? Did you miss the part about the stack-ability of the batteries entirely? Tesla Motors/Energy is a company looking to make a profit, but they're also looking to do some good at the same time. Believe it or not, and considering your age, you may be brainwashed to believe the two cannot go hand in hand, it is surely possible.
Edit: 2kwh? It's actually 7kwh ($3000) or 10kwh ($3500). I swear, sometimes it makes me wonder why people on here can't read.

    • @ickipoo
      @ickipoo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Z Guitar 2kW (note, no "h") is the maximum output from one unit, whereas 10kWh is the capacity (how much it holds). So the unit could emit 2kW for 5 hours or 1kW for 10 hours or 500W for 20 hours. For reference, 2kW is about what is required to run a kettle or an iron, so most people would need 2-3 units. You might also be interested to know that the smallest Tesla S car battery is 40kWh.

I didn't believe it at first but I did the math and 2 billion powerpacks could provide around 50% of the world energy needs for 1 day.
200 000 GWh is 0.72 exajoules or expressed as a rate 22.8 GW. In 2015 the world used 550 exajoules or ~17 000 GW. So on average, in 2015 the world used 1.5 exajoules per day or expressed as a rate 47 GW. Electricity, heating, and transport might be covered by 2 billion units assuming we can fully charge them daily. Go Tesla.

About time that a company shows leader ship in battery technology. I had my 3KWh solar system installed in 2011 and wanted to store the excess power in batteries, but the current batteries are still very expensive and need to be replaced ever 5 years. As soon as Tesla delivers the batteries (Tesla Power Wall) to Australia, I will install them at my home.

Recently we in Sydney, Australia, had some serious storms. It left almost 200000 homes without power. Some of those homes, especially in regional areas, are still without power 2 weeks later. If they had the Powerwall I believe those homes wouldn't have lost power. This is great technology and I'll certainly be keeping an eye on it. I'm personally sick of being a slave to the power companies and the current infrastructure of power delivery via vulnerable power poles and lines.

While this is a great step, the primary problem is seasonal energy not 24 hour. So winter heating and summer cooling are peak use problems generally. Up to 80% of energy use in a typical home each year goes on space & water heating (in temperate climates). Off grid only really works when peak use is matched, which means you have to cater for a max use scenario, which can be expensive where batteries are concerned. Geographical position counts as well due to sun effects/intensity and daylight hours. It's not simple.

Very good approach and I hope the technology really works. One question he didn't answer in his speech is how long are the Tesla batteries working? We know that the capacity and efficiency of batteries goes down over time. How long do the Tesla batteries work?
Side note: He needs to improve his presentation skills. But still very impressed by the technical data!
Second side note: Even in the Philippines solar panels are getting affordable. We are going to get a small (1kW, no battery storage system => obviously because of cost and bad efficiency of todays standard (Pb) batteries) Solar panel system in the next weeks. This will help us to lower our electricity expenses and it will be a small contribution to lower CO2 production.
If Tesla battery system will be available here (in the Philippines) and they have proven that they are reliable and long lifetime, I am ready to upgrade the solar panel system with Tesla technology!

So if you need a new one every 10ish years thats only $3,500 to store clean energy for 10 years!
      That's only $350/year!!

It all sounds tremendously promising, but like all advertising, you don't advertise the pragmatic reality. There are questions to be asked first:
What is the life of the batteries? How often do you have to replace the batteries?
How long does a battery hold charge for?
What is the environmental impact of producing the batteries?
Nonetheless, you have to admire the man's vision. Not to mention the commitment to open source patents. Kudos, Elon Musk.

im pretty sure he is actually trying to point out the manipulation going on there, many people screaming and essentially sharing their opinion can have a brainwashing effect on others because in general people follow what other people say when really it would probably be much wiser to make your own picture.

I design solar , wind and solar thermal systems and my own home is off grid with solar and solar thermal. I am very glad a big player like tesla is drawing attention to this huge problem that in just 2 generations we have turned the world into a ticking time bomb with the greed of corps not caring but knowing full well what fossil fuels are doing to this planet. Off grid power is the only future that we can still have a planet to live in but also people learning or relearning how to live sustainably.

The best way to use the PowerWalls is to get completely "Off The Grid" from the constant regulations & taxes against the consumer such as California's new NEM 3.0 regulations. Buying Your Own Solar Panels & Powerwall not Leasing is the answer!

The sun radiates huge quantities of energy into the surrounding space, and the tiny fraction intercepted by the earth’s atmosphere 150 million kilometers (km) away is nonetheless around 5.4 million EJ per year. About one third of this is radiated back to space, but this still leaves around 3.8 million EJ per year available for use on Earth. This is about 8,000 times humanity’s present rate of use of fossil and nuclear fuels.

How to present like Elon Musk:
#1. Start with a big, undeniable change that creates stakes
#2. Name the enemy + why now
    #3. Tease the “Promised Land”
#4. Identify obstacles - then explain how you'll overcome them
    #5. Present your best evidence

Only one problem fellow American. He's not from here which probably explains the non-greediness he has running in his veins and the reason he wishes to help & he's not even interested in politics really. Anyways, since he has no parents from America being they're from South Africa, he cannot run for President because "American entitlement" & thinking we're superior to everyone else. Blah, I disagree.
