Not in the 3d art world. For an actual production car, I do believe they use curve based models since poly models can't be used by the machines that make the cars.

thanks and how much ram do you have? i have 8 gb of ram and intel core 2 duo 3.0 ghz and nvidia geforce gt 630 2gb but when i record timelapse, it crashes :/ any help thanks

yes better setup means more frames less lag while modelling and using high poly models.Also faster renders.
