I hope everyone had a great holiday! Showing the Leatherman Rebar, one of the most popular and most useful multitools for it's size. I liked the value better back when the price was lower, but price creep aside, this tool offers a lot of functionality in a solid package.
You too. Any problems with the black coating coming off into your hands? LM is known for that and LM acknowledge that it does. I do politely disagree about price. The rebar destroys the wingman, side kicks, and the Rev. Mr. WAJK don't buy the Rev! Thanks for your videos brother!
Leatherman offers a bit adapter for the rebar and the other models that have the Phillips on the long squared shank. It fits on it and allows it to not only accept the Leatherman bit kit, but also the bit extender, and any 1/4 inch hex bit too. It's really sweet.
they made the serrated blade rounded in case you have to cut a seat belt or something and dont stab yourself/person when cutting in a hurry. honestly only thing i wish they did was made the straight edge accessable from the outside.
I love my Rebar, one of my favorites, got it about a year ago for about 40 dollars, the black oxide version, just as a tip, you can purchase the removable bit driver to add functionality
I like the rounded tip on multitool serrated blades as I do consider it my rescue blade, but wouldn't carry a separate dedicated tool for that unlikely requirement. Still does draw cuts well enough and you've got the main blade for piercing. Having said that it makes more sense on one hand opening multitools where you could readily access it.
The Rebar may not have so many screwdriver options as standard but as you may know an adaptor is availabe with additional bits. It all depends upon your needs.
I had to use my Rebar, opening and closing pliers and secondary tools with one hand, last time it was installing an electrical socket. I must say It's not very convenient, but quite possible. Generally it's a great robust tool, and now i optimized it with scissors, i think i closed my multitool question for years.
Charles Montoya I think it's one of their better ones for the tool loadout. I just wish it had full size scissors! I think the Juice scissors are the best, and if they could put them in the Wave or the Blast, it would be eeeepiiicccc
I don't see why everyone loves the exhangable bit drivers. Atleast with the rebar and supertool and other models there's no tools to lose out on the field rendering that tool useless without the bit and u can't just go to hardware store to buy a new one
just an FYI, technically the Rebar and Wave, Charge, Surge both use bit drivers. the reason I say this is the short reach of the bits in the wave style are fairly useless half the time. the other half you need the bit extension. Once you have that you now can reach the same as the unbit driven Rebar, Blast, series. However, if you add the removable bit driver to the Rebar (since you technically need the extension for the wave series) you have the same parts and bits, but technically more utility out of the Rebar.
love this one always comes in handy and its sturdy, but i do find the file inside the handle can graze my hand and even cut me when using the pliers. maybe im just soft.
You can combine the Philips head with a convient quarter inch bit adapter perfectly and already you have a bit driver for any standard but you need to use :)
My wife gave me a Rebar, for my warehouse job, two years ago. It's great and I worked-the-heck out of it. But, a colleague's MUT convinced me to upgrade about 8 months ago. So, I got the Surge and it is proving to be a warehouse-titan! But, I'm wondering about a ST300. Still use my Rebar at home. (I really, profoundly, dislike serrated blades and/or edges. They're worthless near a blade.) This is a great review! Ty.
Iv been using my rebar for 5 years and going strong has everything I need the saw is key all the other tools just have to much extra I don't need that make it heavy.i wish mine came with that case it's great
The rebar would be perfect for me if you could replace the serrated blade with scissors from the wingman. Being able to mod in the bit kit system would be extra credit.
Regarding in my opinion is the best multi tool so far. 2 blades and other basic but important tools. And they are all at the end to use and get a good grip. I use it for everything around the house, work hobbies and what ever else.
I have the Wave. It's a good multitool. I wish you could change the cutting blade on the Wave. I've already bent mine all up cutting irrigation flags. That wire is pretty thin too. My favorite thing about the Wave is the case. I've got a MicroStream on one side, a Exotac fire starter on the other and a thin tin box with bandaids and fish hooks.
I just bought myself a Rebar from Walmart for $30.00!! Outstanding price, apparently they were cleaning out their old inventory, should have asked if Waves were half off too! Anyway, I'm very happy with my Rebar thanks for your review.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives I do like how nicely it fits over the screwdriver, but, I do wish Leatherman would “sell” it more, or offer a leather sheath for the rebar that could hold the bit kit. I don’t know why they don’t sell the two together, or even sell it with a version of the ST300 with a few other accessories. Similar to how Leatherman has various kits that include tools, sell a Rebar with the bit kit, a small roll of paracord, some bailing wire, fishing line, and a few other items to make a decent “survivalist” set, instead of using the (in my opinion) gimmicky Signal. In the kit, include a magnesium block with ferro-rod, and a new Leatherman Sharp accessory that is a knife sharpener, cleaning tool (a curved metal pick) and more all in one. Since I have a new Rebar ordered, I may do this with my “old” one, and keep it in my car. But, then I run into explaining to some people, possibly in uniform, why I have a knife, rope, a shovel, and a small tarp in the trunk of a black sedan. Having those things in a truck is considered useful, but put them in a black car, and they become “creepy.”
There is a tool kit that fits on the REBAR Phillips screwdriver available for about $20 from Leatherman. I haven't used it, and I have heard some complaints about it, too. Nonetheless, it does make it possible to add some things like torx bits and small screwdriver bits, etc. It does keep the cost less, also. I always carry it with me when camping or hiking. I like it very much. I do carry a PS Squirt for everyday carry.
Hi I wanted to ask you a quick question I just got the Leatherman rebar it's a great tool but the Gerber 600 when it says Made in America but it's not on on the handle and says parts from other places what is that exactly mean it still American made right cuz I love tutorial it's fantastic
I think it means the multitool is assembled in America, but some components come from other countries. It is like how certain knives will say made in Sweden, but the blade was made in Japan and the handle put on in Sweden. So "made" often means "assembled."
just a quick question. what are the laws on carrying a multi tool? I know states have some strict laws with carrying knives but what about multi tools?
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Thanks for ur reply. I got Wave + for my dad. I quite like it. Just a bit too thick for my liking. I wanna get 1 for me as well. Just wondering if there's other Leatherman I should get rather than the Wave +
Rebar, wingman and skeletool are my faves. I want a juice next. I have a wave but never liked it. I hate the design and weight and its so uncomfortable to use for extended periods due to the layout of the outside tools.
How durable is the black oxide coating? I'm planning on getting a surge but I'm so torn between the black and silver, so so torn! I'd love to have the black but my assumption is that the coating may start to wear down the line and will show more scratches too. Please help!
I would go with the Black Oxide Surge. The main problem is that the coating arrived pretty dirty, but a good power spraying and scrubbing can fix that. Other than that, it just looks better than the satin.
WeAllJuggleKnives Thanks for the reply! And how resistant is the coating to being scraped off? This will be my first leatherman, hence all the questions. I know their quality is top notch. I have black oxide coated pocket knife which shows scratches quite easily, don't want the same thing to happen to the leatherman.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking about some multitool like leatherman wave. Then I found leatherman wave+. Then I checked the price. Wave+, bits, ... and said no. I'm not willing to pay more than double of price for having screwdrivers and scissors. I'm going to use multitool mostly at home and maybe for camping. I think that high quality nail scissors are better than one on multitool. I rarely needed screwdriver while camping, when i needed glass screwdriver i used tip of small knife on victorinox, I have some screwdriver set at home and hex screwdrivers on bike multitool. For me rebar/multitool 300 seems as best value for money. I would like to see
I totally agree with your pricing gripe. I personally don't like the wingman or sidekick especially for there current. I bought mine on Black Friday at the Home Depot for $20 and $25 years ago. There are ok for the price but still not my favorite. I want to get a skeletool with the 154cm blade but they run $80 to $90.
Full price for this badboy here in the UK is now £75 upwards, that's just short of $100. However I shop around online - you don't really see multitools in actual physical shops here - and was thrilled to find one for £50 = $62. It's a ''second'' because it has an engraving overwritten but that's just a little half inch long rectangle on the surface, I bought a similar second Squirt PS4 from the same supplier and it's fine, the engraving doesn't even cover the logo. Looking forward to getting this tomorrow. It isn't UK legal because the blades lock but for urban EDC I have a Squirt or MP600 bladeless if I'm carrying a bag, but like my fixed/locking blade knives I'll take it camping/bushcrafting/stealth camping/survival training and have it in my BOB for the apocalypse.
I don't think that the serrated blade is so necessary if you have a plain edge blade. I would put a scissor in the place of the serrated blade, but what I really would like would be scissors in the place of the plain edge because I carry a dedicated knife folder.
I started using it and on the first day it pinched me twice / once real good drawing blood / it is because of it's thin width / my wave has never pinched me ever
I carry a knifeless Rebar, it comes with scissors and is lighter weight since it dose not have the two blades which I am fine with since I do not care for 420 blades and carry a dedicated EDC knife.
The Supertool is cooler, but in a practical sense, most people should go with the Rebar first, because the extra size of the ST usually won't matter, except for people who have XL hands.
