Art Eckman and David Bailey were the best announcers..
Definitely an argument that could be made
Fully agree
David Bailey, yes.
Despain, Maiers, and Bailey
You mean not RC with his mispronunciation and rambling or JS with his babbling. Never a sec of just racing noises, their nonsense
Crazy seeing the old jump faces smooth and hard packed, now they’re lined with foot deep ruts all the way across
That is what 450s do...
@@shooter7a I know, modern 4 strokes are torque monsters and eat the track, not to mention longer races. It seems like they put more water down now too
@@adamwelsh5744 The ruts add more of a challenge, and they let different skills shine. The guys that like a smooth track are fast at first and then the ruts can change things as the race goes on
@@yamkaw346 I’m not complaining, just pointing out the change. I love rough rutted tracks
Bailey and Eckman... those voices... got goosebumps all over my arms
Man!! I have this entire season on VHS tapes. This, in my opinion, was the best era of Supercross. The quad was huge. Danny Smith, 4th gear pinned.
Love that! The tracks back then were always something different
Big bores helped a lot back then.
That's funny, I had the whole 96' season on VHS, taped from ESPN. Back when McGrath was untouchable!
If anyone has this race on video, check out Jimmy Button on the 4 stroke hit the quad in his semi race and does a can-can.
@@lucascady4992Me too! I wore my set out tho watching McGrath slay the field over and over. It was crazy how much better he was then everyone else that year.
that jump reminds us how huge SX in the 90's was! way more air then you see now. the jumps were so steep. todays tracks are pretty boring. but that's what four strokes brought us.
The tracks back then were something else that's for sure!
The jumps are still steep and the stuff is still huge. The bikes and riders are better than they were back then. That is why it may look "boring" to you now. I suggest you do a track walk at one of the rounds. It should open your eyes.
Tracks tend to be way more one lined as well. Probably just a product of having to run that line to stay competitive with today's skill sets.
@@dormantmenace true
Ya four strokes fault
Ahhhh man, the good ole days. That sound of Art's voice, an instant childhood flashback.
Holy shit that was an insane send.
Man the good ole days! Great video have to rewatch that one now
Geeez look at how smooth the frickin take off is
I met Tallon and his father at Prarie City when he was a little kid, right after Tyson was hired by Yamaha to ride a YZ80. I couldn't keep up with Tyson's Factory YZ80,and I was on a 78CR250R...😅
Once I also got caught from an 80s rider. To my excuse he went to MXGP very soon later... Dutch rider Jansen? Can't recall his name.
@@liamhotspur9182 it's kind of humbling to get your doors blown off by a kid half your age on a bike 1/3 of the displacement..... but I know that feeling. 😂
Now a days, who's sayin' 125 two strokes are just for kids? From Marty Smith to Johnny O' Mara etc. to this guys on 125's made history.
I think 125s are a perfect stepping stone from minis to 250s. I wish everyone still made them
@@motofevermedia1 I couldn't agree with you more. All the best.
@@motofevermedia1 JS7 smoke a entire field of 250F in a 125...
Doug Parsons was the first one to jump that quad in practice!
If they still had all cc classes both 2&4 stroke we could sit for the weekend and watch 😁😁😁
A 2 stroke sx class would be awesome 👌
Yeah i think it could be a big class again. They just aren't competitive anymore. I didn't really realize how big of a difference there was till watching a yz250 and ktm250sx get lapped in person last weekend in Nashville. They are cool bikes and are a lot of fun but there's no way you'll ever see one podium in a sx event again unless they let the 250 smoker in the four-stroke class.
Awesome hearing Eckman and Bailey, Brought me back to yester years 😂
I did a bit of MX track making years ago... guessing that gap is 110 feet.
And an air time comparison matches Larocco's leap which is 120 feet.
I traveled from England to watch a supercross. This is the one we watched. Me and my dad was sitting next to the quad, half way up the bottom tear. Never seen anything like it 😯 great memories
This was SOOO good. Huge!
Late 80's early 90's in Detroit most 125 s did not have enough to do the triples.
Only the top guys made the leap and they were coming up short. thanks for the memories.
Huge props to Danny Smith that was f'n amazing.
"Biggest Jump EVER......... they haven't seen me when a spider landed on my lap in '75.
Hahaha but was it on a sx track??
It’s crazy that Danny Smith didn’t run him high up that berm in the last corner! Instead he left Vohland to cut down early for the win.
That jump looks huge. I wonder how many feet it is?
He definitely could've had it. I was wondering the same thing!
Not surprised larocco did larocco's leap on a 125 2 stroke over 30 years ago and dudes still have a hard time doing it today on 4 strokes
I was there, and it was amazing.
Windham's cross overs were really the biggest jumps in the stadiums.
True those were so sick!
lmfaoo that jump was fkn huge!
That’s a gnarly send! ✊ 🤘😎🍻
that was an exciting race for sure!
the fact that he did that on a cr125 is impressive considering how those bikes were slugs when they went to aluminum frames
I raced that era. They used '95 cylinders and the motors were basically as fast as years prior with that move. The chassis wasn't very good for us local riders. My cousin rode a 97 cr125 I bought the 98. His bike was much better although mine was finally faster after I had motorwork done.
That's big! I remember JS doing a huge jump on a 125 at one of the Vegas East West shoot-outs
i can guaratee this race had the biggest whoops in sx history.
Theres a shot from 90s I think Anaheim with 5 guys in air same time off a massive quad about same height and distance as that in 250 main, theyve really clamped down on air time on these tracks.
Balls like coconuts!!
the rainbow 6 siege music makes this so much better
How have I never seen this...unreal . Don't build the SX tracks like that no more.
What years was this?
2000 Anaheim 2!
Beast 🏁🤙🍻
Awesome! 🤙🏼
Huge one for sure
Cool!
Holy smokes !!!!!!!
That quad was insanely huge! So much testicular fortitude and on a 125 you gotta have perfect jetting to not fuck that up.
Definitely before scrubbing was a thing!
I honestly think these tracks where bigger jump
You barely see any air in jumps any longer. Its pretty boring.
Wow that was big....they dont biuld them like that anymore
Sickkkk
That’s a booter man!
Definitely!
These were the final days of true motocross/supercross competitors. The days when guys raced right up to the checkered flag while literally banging bars. These days, the riders make sure that they get through the first turn in one piece, then fall in line behind one another and cruise to the end so they can collect their checks.
Bikes are too fast these days. It was much better when the riders pushed the bikes and track to the limit.
Have you watched Supercross the last few years? Cooper Webb has 5 of the top 10, including the closest finish for a win. Got Kenny a couple of times in the last turn. A few races ago had Webb had a .05 second lead over Sexton at the finish. You don't know what your talking about.
@@eli9494 it’s not as exciting. It’s like saying a nascar driver won by 0.002 seconds
@@iceKOIddo you watch Supercross now? It's been really exciting. If they put a massive jump like that in, yeah it's neat, but every guy would do it now, quads now are in rythym sections, some tracks don't even have traditional triples, they're just there for air time, but if they put a big jump in like that, with that much run, every guy would do it, it would take away from the racing. The quads now are in rythym sections. To say it's not exciting, yeah some are boring when someone has a ten second lead, but it's exciting when they battle.
@@eli9494 I hear what you are saying, and yes I’m watching this season and it’s great. I started following motocross diehard in 1998 and lost interest around 2018. Maybe I was burned out but I have enjoyed last year and this year a lot. The bikes and lap times are so fast we don’t see battles like we used to. It’s only if someone makes a mistake, and it’s rare with the top 5 guys to do that. Also I believe removing the dragon back jumps and minimizing the whoops section has made mistakes even more rare.
Miss the old days when tracks were real and not cookie cutter!
On a 125 think about that..!
Faaaaaaaaaaaaarq YES!
the good ol daze better tracks better announcers better bikes better sound better smell period.
Back when Men were men and the ones who dominated the sport didn't wear pink gear !
Sx sucks ass now ..too much politics and not enough pinned 125's clearing a 100 foot quad.
Unnecessary and not safe as far as what happens if you get it wrong and end a career. There should never career ending obstacles. When the track builders see someone clear an unintended obstacle they should immediately make changes to prevent it from happening again. Reduce speed. Reduce height. Better racing.
They did build this with the intention to potentially be completely cleared though.
Risk reward
And you're a spectator! What a drag you must be. Who cares if they have the confidence to attempt shit like this. Risk/reward; the nanny-state is for the inferior.
