So Super Best Friends disbanded this morning. I was pretty torn up about it, like my favorite band just broke up. But then I see this video in my recommendations. Those guys always gave shout outs to lesser known channels like Eyepatch Wolf, SuperBunnyHop and Clemps. And I like to think that this is one last shoutout to another high quality creator who doesn't get nearly enough views. Stellar video, looking forward to more.

This being uploaded a day before the Super Best Friends disbanded really feels bittersweet.
And now he's a playable character in Shovel Knight Showdown. All is as it should be.
Doesn't it feel good Shovel Knight was never a good character or IP and has lost all relevence in the gaming sphere.
This really is the ultimate unintended send off to one of the greatest channels ever. It makes the pain just a little bit more dull.
Thanks for all the VGCW highlights! I wasn't sure about Zubaz at first, but after I started to run VGCW and got to work with his character, I finally understood his charm. By the end, he was definitely one of my favorites. Here's hoping his spirit continues to endure despite the recent news.

This will *LITERALLY* never happen, but could you imagine The 'Baz showing up as the last DLC character for Smash Ultimate? Like secretly Sakurai was a fan of the character and the Baz not having a home would make him the perfect candidate for being in Smash. In light of the recent breakup, I think I would cry like an actual baby if he got into Ultimate. Perhaps, in some alternate universe....

It'd actually be a really funny 'last hurrah' for him, as unlikely as it is. Because he was a rejected Street Fighter character that's just bounced around other games over time, his playstyle actually suits Smash reasonably well... and he finally gets to fight Ryu and Ken.

The tragic story of Zubaz is the fear of being wanted, through all the games that he appeared in he's a major threat to either the hero or the villain of the game but the fear of rejection is so high that he purposely screws up and get kick off from the game he appear as a never-ending prophecy that he's not wanted anywhere.

So this actually reminds me a lot of Asagi: The Wandering Heroine. She was slated to be the main character of a game called Makai Wars, but the game was put on hold (and eventually cancelled), the developers at NIS decided to promote the game a bit by having her appear in the post game of another release called Makai Kingdom, where the MC Of that game Zetta beats her and takes her under his wing to train her to become a good Mc, all in an attempt to always be the MC himself.
What follows is a legend in and of itself that begins a legacy of cameos. Zetta locks her in the world of Disgaea 2 cursed to be stuck there until she reaches a certain level of strength. Which the Mc Of D2 recruits and trains her. Eventually she breaks out and defeats Zetta, but without a game she begins to wander, next appearing in Soul Nomad as a secret boss fight where she one shots the game’s final boss right at the beginning and challenges that games MC to a battle hoping to win and claim the title for herself.
From here on she would wander through the expansive NIS multiverse appearing in most of their games looking to become the main character of some game some how. Throughout the years she has proved her power, fought bouts of insanity from the stress, tried time travel to get her game made, and even learned that her game was stolen and being help captive by the OTHER constant reoccurrence in the NIS universe, Tyrant Overlord Baal, who even uses her game as a weapon at times in Disgaea 5.
Eventually and after years of tireless thankless cameos in atleast 12 or 13 different games, side modes, and even a real world music tour... Makai Wars was FINALLY made a reality with Asagi as the MC... and its a Mobile Gatcha style game of all things.
It’s a fun and fascinating story.
Sir, that level of enthusiasm is dangerous. That's how ships get started.
But in all honesty, that's actually really cool. I was familiar with Asagi as a bonus boss, but thought she was just a favored character design like Pleinair was. Didn't know the full backstory, just mostly enjoyed her being playable in Prinny and thought nothing of it past that. Really awesome to learn about that more!
pyrrhickong Oh yeah, there’s a lot of story here I didn’t cover, but it runs deep and a lot of her appearances are canonically linear. For example when she first appears in Soul Nomad some of her first words are “So long Zetta!” Showing that she had only just broken free of his curse and defeated him. Also funnily enough in a secret ending it’s revealed that Asagi was the entire accidental cause for the visual novel Disgaea Infinite when her package of a time traveling watch was lost in the mail. The lord runs deep and is in ways even tied back to Baal himself and how many games he’s shown up in.
I’ve been a big NIS fan for a long time simply because of how weird and fun their multiverse is

The most ironic part of vgcw final, there was a premade scenario where zubaz won the Gannon fight, he lost the following mach with the game genie...and basically doomed the world...even when he wins the poor guy cant catch a brake
My favorite part of that lore is, as I recall, Ganon also lost the 1v1 to the Genie. Then Vegeta and Nappa lost a tag team match to two genies. Then EVERY SINGLE WRESTLER fought the Game Genie so that they could sync up their finishers in multiple dimensions at the exact same time and all 70+ of them beat the genie on their first attempt.
Except Waluigi.

I'm almost a decade late to actually add a 'Baz cameo, but he's on my list of things to add to my own games... I only knew of him through Shovel Knight, and I was super confused by the character portrayed there, but this vid makes all of it make sense.

The Boss is absolutely fantastic. I also really love Buzz Buzz, Ness's Father, Swanky Kong, and the entirety of Mega Man's Classic Mode, all fantastic references that capture the feeling of the game super well.

Just the thought of Zubaz trying to sign up for The King of Iron Fist Tournament only to be rejected while two bears and a kangaroo waltz in and be welcomed is just hilarious to me
So, I clicked on this video cause it was in my recommended, and got hooked, until the wrestling part... It was possibly the most engaging story, told in the most engaging way, ever. It took a week to work up the courage to watch more content that was related to the TBF but HOLY CRAP I AM ALL IN THOSE ZUBAZ VGCW COMMENTS.
I’m proud to have supported my boy the Baz through every victory and the even more losses.
I am so glad I found this video, it has taught me a lot about a character I just fought in shovel knight.

He walked in a joke, he walked out a legend
I had vague knowledge of this character's existence in Divekick and Shovelknight but had never put together than it was the same guy. This was super fascinating and cool
God, does this mean no more Zubaz cameos? Say it ain't so.
Zubaz is a character owned by the community, I think. After all, the Super Best Friends technically didn't create him, despite obviously contributing heavily toward his legacy.
If developers want to keep his legacy alive, I think they will regardless.
@Designing For Sure, it's just that the Best Friends are almost exclusively the only ones putting in money to have him in stuff. Maybe people will do it because he's just kinda that "weird indie cameo" character now. I just don't wanna lose the Baz.
@@pyropoyo He's at the very least got an appearance in Matt's game, The Takeover, coming out, and I doubt that Matt and Woolie will ever let The Storm truly die. Hell they're redoing Fighterpedia videos, so the odds of Zubaz still existing in some form are prrrretty high.

This video really made me appreciate the baz even more than I did in my shovel knight play through (even though I really loved his boss fight and he’s very useful in plague of shadows), seeing how his whole storyline is finding a place to belong but getting rejected everytime. It’s honestly really sad to learn that super best friends plays broke up, thus leaving everyone to wonder what’ll happen to zubaz, but I’ll never forget his legacy
It's really sad so few people who watch this video are checking out the D4 back catalog. This is some good stuff.
