  • Today we're back at it at Holden beach, one of the most productive shelling areas in all of the US east coast! It turns out to be such a good day that I had to split this video into two parts. Stay tuned for part two coming soon!

That yellow scallop was a beauty! Great knobbed whelks and precious baby ears.

I'm dying to know where on Holden Beach did you go? I was out there Sunday morning, at 3am, I walked about 2 miles south of the pier, and granted I found great shells, but did not find a single welk and no piles of shells like you show in your video. I only ask, because I would absolutely love to find some welks. Love your videos! Shell on, my Shelling friend.

This was a pretty long stretch of beach west of the Holden pier (I walked up almost all the way to it and turned around then). However this video was filmed a few months ago during winter, and conventional wisdom has it that shells are more abundant that time of year due to favorable ocean currents being more prolific. I imagine in the summer with tourist season it can be more difficult to find stuff, you just need to hit the right day. Thank you for watching and commenting!
