It was a once in a lifetime-not sure a pile like that will ever come my way again! Lido beach was the best natural occurring pile from dredging (I have 2 videos on that)!! I have been to other smaller dredge piles put out but nothing like this! Thanks so much for watching!
What a fun day. I would have been so happy too. I have trouble walking long distances so shelling can be hard for me . Having a pile brought right to me would be the best. Thanks for sharing.
Thx so much for watching! I was telling my friends, Richard and Shilei that these companies that sell the shells to developers should have some type of pile area and like say you pay a certain fee to shell there for an hour or something like that, you know they could be making some extra good money, as well as satisfies some shellers, and still use the leftovers for their construction!!
I went nuts when I saw all those seashells…like a kid in a candy store! I would pick and keep ANYTHING that my hands touch. Lol Yes, that’s how desperate and crazy I would be. Absolutely NO discrimination whatsoever. Your video gave me the desperate yearning to go to back to FL to look for seashells again. Lol I’m addicted to seashells! 😂
I can’t believe you were there after the pile had already been there for a month and you still got all,of those beautiful shells! What fun, I love watching your videos, thanks for sharing!❤
Oh I know!! They kept refreshing the pile with new shells-unbelievable ❤️ Thx for watching and I’m so happy you are enjoying the channel!! It’s been a long time coming and so happy to be finally doing this!
Wow, I didn’t know this was a thing that the council (or whoever) did for the shellers! Amazing, I would have driven three hours for that as well 🤣 I think that Reticulated Cowrie Helmet was the best shell of the day!
As time goes by, it’s getting less and less of a thing because of public safety but yes they are still out time to time… you have to do a little digging around for info and beach hopping because a lot of people are tight lipped about it, which I can totally understand, due to crowds, etc. In part 2 coming out next Sunday, I find more of the reticulated cowrie helmets and I did give some to a lady that was looking for them at this pile too 👍🏼 Thx for watching Maddie.
It’s getting less and less of a thing I think because of public safety but it was for sure amazing! I wish they did it with each dredge and just make people sign a paper or something (shell at your own risk etc.) anyways, it was fun; thx for watching!
Thank you 🐚 Outside of this dredge pile I have never seen that one…not even a piece on any beach. Same of the brown moon. There is a drop off after the sandbars over on the east coast so it’s always a hit or miss with shelling here. Crazy how much is seen from the dredge that usually doesn’t wash up in any kind of abundance 😢 I can only imagine what’s sitting there beyond the sandbars after the drop 😭 Thx for watching 😍
Ummm OK! You really know how to do this! I have always wanted to shell a SE FL dredge pile, but I don't live in Florida, lol. Awesome content, shell friend! 💙 06:43 Brown Moon Snail, yeah!
Yes tools and all 🤣 Oh great thx SO much for the name! I thought it was a golden moon whale eye but those are not indigenous to this area and I couldn’t find any other information…Brown Moon 👍🏼 Thanks for watching. Happy shelling and you never know you might come across a dredge pile while visiting one time. I love all your travels! 🐚
you should carry a dish soap bottle of water with you so you can wash some of that sandy gravel away to see better wow that is really neat that they do that for you guys!❤
Great idea! One lady there had mentioned how she wish there was a hose near by to wash things off lol but I guess being all sandy added to the fun of "hunting" for the shells. Good memories! Thx for watching.
@@FloridaBeachWalks Ya then once you get home and rinse them off you can be surprised LOL, I couldnt wait that long, I would go with the hose 100% Now there is an idea!❤
You are very professional your training and putting videos together shows in your intros and wrap ups. I'll be watching to see how your subscribers grow in number. In the meantime keep up the good work and enjoy what you do. It's fun to see your excitement and knowledge of shelling.
Thank you for that! I appreciate your comment. I am a graphic designer, so this is added fun for me in making this channel’s content. By the grace of God I strive to do my best…growing all the time 🙂 Thank you for watching and take care.
So the giant cone your friend found is a Beech cone (conus botulinus) Have her look it up. It is not a giant alphabet cone. What a cool find! I love watching this. So Jealous.
Thx so much for watching--glad you are enjoying!! After looking that up (conus betulinus; with an "e" after the b) it says distribution off Indo-China, Indo-Malaysia, Philippines, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Queensland, Australia. So not sure it's as it looks very different from the photos. Ohhh these shells 🐚 but thx for the name to research! Blessings.
Oh great! Thx Shilei and @solaceinshelling6552 identified that moon we were trying to figure out as a Brown Moon! 🙌🏽 www.shellmuseum.org/post/shell-of-the-week-the-brown-moon-snail
I’ve lived in Palm Beach County my whole life and never found anything like that at Lake Worth Beach. Not usually looking. Always went to Hobe Sound. Never found Cowrie shells, just pieces. If we found the lip part, we called it a tiger tail and kept it. Never saw a cone shell either. Such glee! Blessings!
Oh wow! Man I’d love to live in Palm Beach county! It would sure save the miles on my car. I have put some serious miles on my SUV driving all over the place 🙃🤪 The way the ocean floor drops off suddenly right after the sand bars is why most of those shells don’t roll up for us to find on the east coast. Dredging takes place after that drop so all those shells are like sitting past that shelf. If our ocean floor was like the west coast with a constant slop we’d be getting an abundance of shells too washing up. I’ve talked to a dredging guy in Melbourne once and he told me that the drop (in Melbourne Beach) is like 12’ then flat then another drop…that changes in depth all along the east coast. So those shells are out there - to wash up they have to be stirred up. I love Hobe Sound! I have found some amazing hauls from there that I can’t wait to share with you all! Blessings to you too. Thx for watching and your comment.
Juno beach Florida has good shells, people usually go Shelling their.. I'm from Palm Beach and never found good shells at lake worth beach that's why I go to juno now
I have never done a shell dump but I did spend several months digging on the beach in Boca Raton after a beach reconstitution project. The material I found was astounding both in number of species and condition. Tons of nearly perfect shells, including beautiful orange cabrit’s murexes with long intact spines, cones with perfect lips, etc.
That's amazing! And I did hear of someone saying something similar. That they would dig (I think right at the water's edge) after the Boca project. Awesome you found great finds--that is SO the BEST feeling! Take care and thank you so much for watching!
@@FloridaBeachWalks actually I dug further up, but it varies. After sometime, beach erosion would create a sort of wall near water’s edge. The reason that beach reconstitution project was so good is because they dredged sand between two reef ledges, at around 60ft, which brought deeper water species, including some rarities, even a baby junonia volute which I had never heard of from the east coast.
@@marsrii4372 wow that was such a neat opportunity. Yeah I have found large pieces of Junonia in Palm Beach County over the past three years and a friend at my church found a juvenile beat up one a couple years back… they are on the east coast too… the only issue we have is the ledge drop about 10 to 15 feet past the sandbars on the East Coast (that the Gulf stream carves out). That’s why nothing washes up and significant on a regular basis…. The West Coast is a constant gradation all the way down to the bottom except for a few cliffs way out in the middle of the gulf.
It’s pretty much all word-of-mouth. I didn’t find out about it until way after it started and it was only from a shell group on Facebook. I was just a little suspicious about everyone’s finds lol so I messaged a lady and she graciously let me know about it, but did tell me to keep a lid on it because they didn’t want several people showing up where they would close it down so it’s basically just word-of-mouth or driving by a dredging location and seeing if they have a pile open to the public- it’s getting more and more closed off to the public. You can also search Florida dredging projects on Google and see what they have going on. It’s always a good idea to shell near dredging because stuff gets stirred up. Anyways, it’s fun- I hope one day you’ll get that opportunity!
Awwww this was a memory from 2021…I had mentioned that in the opening. Boy I sure wish this was happening again!!! Awwww please tell him thank you for the watching support ❤️ Blessings to you both!
Hey Roxanne, What a great time! I visited the same pile toward the end of their dredging and people were crazy. They had a police man there because people were climbing a fence in a restricted area to get shells.😞 Not sure how close you live to Ponte Verde beach, but they are doing dredging there now.
Oh wow, yeah no police there when we were there. 😒 Glad you had the chance to go and I hope you found some treasures 😍 That beach is 4hrs north so not sure if I’ll investigate but thx for the info I’ll keep an ear out. Thx so much for watching!
Yes, the same exact beach at Phipps just out in the ocean past the sand bars. You could see the dredge ship from the beach and the soothing machines were right on the sand! It was a crazy good memory of that time! Can't wait if they do something like that again!
It sure would! A great spot for wheelchairs is Marco south beach after a wind event….lots of shells can pile up by the rocks and Sanibel/Captiva “Turner Beach”. Shells tend to pile there even w/o a wind event or storm and Turner has a thick tarp on the beach path making it easy to get a chair out there-I’ve seen people push a chair out there before. Thx for watching!
What a lovely day with your bestie! Thanks for letting us tag along. This reminds me of you. Proverbs 31:10-29 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. ❤TN Nana

I'm in the Tampa area as of 5 years ago, but we have a couple shells including a very bleached white conch shell that my mom got in Christmas Cove of Great St. James in the USVI around 1975 - one of Epstein's islands. They don't let you take shells from the islands anymore, and there is a small island of discarded conch shells off Virgin Gorda in the BVI.
I do have a few sozones and can see the resemblance but I think it’s a variation of Alphabet…but you never know! Thx so much for watching and reaching out and commenting 👍🏼
Facebook shelling groups and I just Google “current Florida dredge or beach renourishment projects”. Some, I just drove by to see if there are open piles (usually not; they are closed and guarded). I’ve even asked the guards right there on the job about the current project and future projects-most are nice but some will not even give you the time of day. This Palm Beach pile I had messaged someone on Facebook after seeing there shelling post and they were nice enough to tell me about it-it was a month after they had been shelling the public pile. People are tight lipped about it-and I get that 👍🏼
Hi, I moved to Cocoa about 18 months ago and I've wanted to find somewhere I can go shelling. There's not a good place for it at Cocoa Beach. I'm disabled (both of my knees have been replaced and I have bulging and ruptured disks in my back. Something like this would be amazing. Do you have any ideas how long the pile will be there? Any help would be appreciated greatly 🙏🏻
Nice I hope you are enjoying Cocoa! I actually want to take my kids up there maybe Friday to Ron John’s as we usually do as part of their spring break tradition. This dredge pile was from 2021. We found out about this pile a month after it was open-it was tight lipped. I live near Cocoa and I pretty much shell from Fort Pierce down to Palm Beach on our east coast and do make it to the west coast when I can. Fort Pierce has some easier access beaches by the inlet. And Sebastian Inlet is a nice place to shell too. Cocoa at time is ok to shell but I’ve not had much luck but then again I’ve never shelled at first light there so maybe the early birds are getting the worms? 🙃 The beaches in front of Patrick base are good at times-mainly if there are wash-ups after a storm or high winds. Wishing you all the best in shelling and thx for watching!
@@pamelafox5882 The typical in that area-arks, calicos, oysters, jingles, maybe an olive-nothing to get very excited about. Here is a fast read that might be helpful: cocoabeachrentalhomes.com/why-arent-there-pretty-shells-on-cocoa-beach/
Thank you, Knobby Scallop, measled cowrie (I thought it could be that being it’s smaller than the Atlantic deer cowrie would be). There are so many forms I've come to find out of Oliva fulgurator and yes the one here in the form bifasciata....thank you. I found this helpful on explaining the different forms of Fulgurator Olives: olram9.wixsite.com/letstalkseashells/copy-of-olivella-perplexa
It’s literally play it by ear because it’s really tight lipped. We only found this pile a good month after it was out to the public. It’s being in the right place at the right time and sometimes you just have to start traveling/investigating around places that are doing dredging and see if they have anything extra going on for the public. In this particular case, I was in a shelling group on facebook and I flat out just asked a lady who had posted her finds; asked over messenger and she was nice enough to inform me. A lot of people don’t say if you ask and I respect their choice-over crowding is another reason people don’t say. As I told someone in a previous comment, they should have piles that you can pay to go in and shell…that way the construction people could be getting extra money and satisfy some shellers as well as providing construction material, like a win-win for all. It’s just sad to imagine that a lot of these dredging projects do not have public piles & all those awesome shells are just crushed! Anyways, thank you so much for watching ❤️
Don't forget to leave some shells on the beach for the hermit crabs who don't come with shells so they dont' have to use a plastic shampoo bottle lid their home
Thank you for your concern & watching. The shells collected here were all heading to construction sites to be crushed and used for foundations under buildings or roads. The massive amount of shells trucked out of this area after the sand/shell sorting was mind blowing… dump truck after dump truck all day being shipped out. Gives one an idea of how many shells are in the ocean for life to continue after the mollusk has expired or been eaten; being these millions of shells only came out of a small portion right outside of Phipps park. I believe “trash” is an issue for a hermit & other sea life. Hermit crabs select their homes for various reasons and trash over abundance is something to consider too. Here is a really good recent article on the issue posted this year: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/hermit-crabs-using-trash-as-shells-across-the-world-scientists-find-180983701/#:~:text=When%20hermit%20crabs%20select%20a,white%20or%20black%20bottle%20caps.

Oh thank you TN Nana. Verse 26 I need to pray more about when it comes to Connor sometimes his ADHD gets the better of me 🙏🏼 Thank you for your kind words and reminding me of this beautiful passage ❤️ Thanks for watching. I can’t wait to share part 2 with you next Sunday!
Oh thank you for the information and sharing 👍🏼 I’m sure your conch is a beauty 😍 Thx for watching!
I think the giant darker colored cone with spots a sozone's cone maybe?
I do have a few sozones and can see the resemblance but I think it’s a variation of Alphabet…but you never know! Thx so much for watching and reaching out and commenting 👍🏼
how did you know about the dredge pile? how would I find one? thank you
Facebook shelling groups and I just Google “current Florida dredge or beach renourishment projects”.
@@FloridaBeachWalks I guess I need to just go and check out the beaches early morning. What kinds of shells have you found at Cocoa Beach?
@@pamelafox5882 The typical in that area-arks, calicos, oysters, jingles, maybe an olive-nothing to get very excited about. Here is a fast read that might be helpful: cocoabeachrentalhomes.com/why-arent-there-pretty-shells-on-cocoa-beach/
at 10:35 looks like Caribachlamys pellucens. at 12:19 Macrocypraea zebra. 12:34 a large Oliva bifasciata.
Hi, how do you know they are going to do that with the seashells? I will like to go too
It’s literally play it by ear because it’s really tight lipped.
@@FloridaBeachWalks Hi Im new here👋😊What is the name of the FB group?
@@hoppas77 oh my goodness 🤪I can't remember which one I'm like on 15+ Facebook shelling groups/pages and that was 3yrs ago...I'm SO sorry.
Thank you for the address to Smithsonian hermitcrab article!!! 🦀🦞🦐
WHAT A SHAME TO PASS UP ON ALL THOSE OLIVES😢
I have jars filled with them. I do pick some up still time to time 👍🏼 More for other sheller 🐚❤️ Thanks for watching-take care.
