- The Bullet and The Ballot (1999): Just before the 1999 general referendum, sectarian violence is growing in Indonesia, but with it too comes a sense of jubilation for some.

A crowd of curious children cheer as a UN helicopter lands; moments later they are running and screaming as one of Timor's many pro-Indonesia militias storms the UN's Maliana base. Attacks like this have generated thousands of refugees. Aid workers are predicting disaster. “People haven’t been able to plant their crops…the next harvest just won’t be there.” But independence supporters’ enthusiasm is still strong. At Sual cathedral, 1800 refugees defy militia terror and march for independence. “August 30th is a beautiful day for us because we want freedom!” But at a militia rally they are also optimistic of victory. Militia chief Joao Tavares tells us to expect violence. “It will happen because the Timorese will not accept losing.”

As an Indonesian, I’m sorry for what we’ve done to the people of East Timor. Nothing can excuse the sheer violence that happened. I also can’t forgive Western powers at play who toyed with the lives of the people from both sides just for their selfish purposes. I hope everyone from that point in time, whether pro-independence and pro-autonomy, can find peace in this new era of peace. To those who’ve now settled in West Timor, I hope you’ve found home in Indonesia and wish for you to maintain good relationships with relatives across the borders. Indonesia and Timor-Leste are now neighbors, brothers and sisters. We must move on from our painful history and work together for the betterment of both nations. 🇮🇩 🍻 🇹🇱
I blame the USA because without the green light from President Ford and Kissinger, Indonesia wouldn’t dare to invade to kill. The USA is well known about their interest in countries rich in oil. God is great and this life was never meant to be forever. Portugal and The UN should have interfered…but did nothing! My Father never gave up hope and kept writing letters…one of them to Times magazine… Both my parents had to leave East Timor and as a child I have heard them cry for East Timor while having to live far away from the land they so missed. The Portuguese Government was scared of my Father as he loved East Timor and wanted Justice to his country. My Parents used to miss their family, the people they knew… that food…EVERYTHING that East Timor had to offer. I heard them speak in Tetum and I could understand their pain. Then, one day my Father mentioned to my Mother that I could understand their conversation and I straight away looked at them. Well, that was the last day they cried in front of me. They saw how it all was affecting me and in fact it did so. How sad that we have to live on this Earth with 👹👺. They have been controlling OUR WORLD …politicians too.
Most grateful for the help the 🇦🇺 and 🇳🇿 have given to EAST TIMOR. Very sorry for all who were killed, including the Balibo 5. I cannot remember a word sent from the Vatican ll. No Human Being Can Ever Represent GOD on this Earth.

As an Indonesian I am really sorry for what my country has done to East Timor. I will appreciate the Indonesian government if they have enough guts to declare an official apology for East Timorese people.

Prediksi saya, dalam waktu kurang 15 tahun kedepan, akan ada pergerakan di Timor Leste untuk bergabung kembali ke NKRI, karena terlilit hutang dan tidak adanya perubahan perbaikan ekonomi disana.
