Is it time to film vertically?

    Here are my considerations.
    1. Am I posting to TH-cam?
    Yes - Landscape
    No - Portrait
    2. Lens choice.
I've been shooting a lot with the 70-200mm and the crop in when reframing for socials makes the frame far too tight to see what's going on. So shooting with that lens makes it necessary to shoot vertically if the intended use is social media. Shooting 24-70 is great when shooting landscape and allowing that space to crop in post.
    3. Turn around time.
Often times when shooting tournaments or events, the video needs to get delivered at half-time or within half an hour after a game. Although the auto-reframe feature is pretty good, taking that out of my workflow saves crucial minutes when on a tight deadline. Trusting my ability to track the action and frame the shots properly the first time around votes towards shooting vertically.
    4. Equipment
I shoot on the A7IV and the 4k/50p setting is shot at a crop. If I want to keep my lower end focal range of 70mm when shooting from the baseline, and a high frame rate, I'm limited to shoot at 1080p. Having a fully articulating screen is important for ergonomics too when constructing your rig. Save the weight and the angle. Stopped bothering with a monitor. Especially for long tournament days.

@@jrsmithmedia Huge points all round. Taking everything into consideration, assuming you’ve got a decent laptop to handle editing 4k, I’m still choosing shooting landscape 4k.
