Bold didn't run off as he did in this series. He simply decided to leave the Park once old enough to leave his parents. He and Friendly walked a little way together, finally taking the plunge and separating having wished each other good luck.
This is probably one of the most devastating scenes in all of the whole series of The Animals of Farthing Wood, because Bold never saw his brother and sister again when he left White Deer Park and also he never saw his newborn cub Plucky in the third and final series.
in the books, he never would have; Plucky was his grandson, meaning that his cubs grew up and had cubs of their own. They decided to make Plucky his son and Fox's grandson to avoid some confusions. A lot was cut from the books, like Ranger and Charmer's cubs. Fox was old because he'd seen 3 generations of foxes grow up, his own, his grandchildren and theirs. He did not survive to see any following generations, neither did vixen. But this was why it was so important Fox passed on his leadership to Plucky, because he knew that was the end of his story.
Fox was a terrible father. Bold’s death is on his conscience, as far as I’m concerned. And even if it isn’t, he was so stubborn that it took the death of his son for him to finally stop being a dick to Charmer and Ranger.
Part of Fox's character arc here was to learn to balance being a leader and a father. His children were born during a war/skirmish. He had to face major strain with trying to lead his people and protect his family. While his actions were questionable, given the circumstances it is not unexpected and actually realistic.

The show didn't exactly portray him the best, in the books he didn't chsse Bold off, Bold simply left on his own as all mature foxes do, they leave to find mates, both sons left white deer park but Whisper forced Bold to go back while he was suffering from septisemia and malnutrition, Whisper is not fully to blame either, she didn't understand how bad he got until it was too late, Fox was much kinder in the books and Dreamer wandered off as she always did and Lady Blue killed her
Why didn't the humans help Bold? the farmer who spared Bold's life should have taken him to a vet, after noticing the young fox's crippled leg, the doctors would have cured Bold and him would have received the proper treatment and he would have survived and met his cubs especially Plucky.
No, I think Ranger is mourning his father. Ranger says he cared about his father and having adder murder his brother and dad has to suck, especially with fox rubbing it in.
He seems to be sympathetic, but is mostly sorrowful for Charmer as he was her brother. He knows what it's like to lose family, it's happened to him multiple times.
I wept when I saw the fox died. I like Bold even though the film Farthing woods is a dramatic cartoon. Although Bold's cubs are still alive, it is such a tragic end for this lovely fox.
Favourite character to be honest so hard to see him get shot whisper drags him back to the park he just makes it in time to see his parents one last time before he passed away from the gunshot wound that wasn't treated at all bless him if that farmer had helped him get to a vet he could have survived
If you live in Ireland/UK RTE has been running reruns of this on RTE 2 @6-7 am for at least the last 20 years, best quality you're going to get unless you purchase the dvd's(mostly vhs recordings online).
kids dont always need fairytales..life is full of consequences and there are good lessons in this..cant sugar coat everything, i watched this and ive done well in life..
peps pikachu What the hell? 18+? There is nothing "adult" in it, sure it has a lot of deaths of characters, but that's life you know, i find it ridiculous how kids nowadays are raised in a buble. In fact i wish there were more cartoon like this, the story is well made and its very deep, it has a lot of impact on the feelings of those watching and it teaches some important lessons, also, all of the deaths in it shows that death in a natural thing and the way how the characters soon recover and move on shows that as frightening and depressing that deathg might be, life move on, i would say that's very important, specially considering how there are several cases in which a traumatic event, like the death of a loved one can really break a person and cause it to fall in depression.

The only two parts that lighten up the scene is when fox says we got your cubs look for it to you son of a gun into where he lets charmer be with Ranger

He had been injured previously. I can assume his wound got infected, and the poison from the infection slowly coursed through his body and shut him down. He only just had the strength to make it to the boundary fence, and died literally on the boundary.
That wasn't a Farthing Animal that murdered Sinuous. That was a giant rat. The Oath specifically says, "I do solemnly swear not to swallow or otherwise consume anybody whilst en route to the Place of Toads." It gets updated to say, "whilst inside the Boundaries of Farthing Land." It also applies to them agreeing not to "frighten, terrorise, or consume one another." The Oath doesn't apply to Bully or most of the other Rats as they are not natural members of Farthing Land. The only Rat to swear the Oath was Spike, who befriended Toad.
