The Animals of Farthing Wood - Extended Theme Suite

I rediscovered this classic gem last week, and was overjoyed to hear the theme tune once more... which was immediately crushed by the realisation that it was only 45 seconds long, and the only extended version on the internet was a rather hollow-sounding remix. SO I went hunting around, and found someone who'd uploaded most of the rare audio-adaptions, which contained therein many elusive parts of the soundtrack in clean, clear stereo (to my knowledge, this is the only time the opening theme has been heard without the bird SFX at the beginning), and so I set about making an extended medley of the assorted cues I now held. Thus here we have it: What the Animals Of Farthing Wood theme would sound like if you attended a concert performance of it or something.
Cute fact: Most of this theme was arranged using sets of the Proteus 2 Orchestral soundfonts (most recognizable as the synth used in series 3 to 5 of Thomas The Tank Engine) but the very last "movement" - namely the "End Titles Theme" from 4:18 onward - was played and recorded live by the WDR Orchestra in Germany!
I wish this shows soundtrack was released, it just had so many wonderful, whimsical and adventurous pieces! Very fitting for a show of it's nature

For all the things this show is remembered today, we don't talk enough how great it's score was and still is.

I absolutely loved how certain characters had their own distinct musical sound - and this was maintained throughout the entire series. ie. I'll always recognise the theme for Toad, Adder, Mole and so forth
Don't forget Whistler! You can hear a bit of his at 0:44, actually.
Always wanted a high-quality upload of the threat/danger/suspense music from these series - was so haunting - the likes of when Vixen approaches Scarface and Lady Blue in Winter, or Scarface is chasing Adder down the hole, or Adder is stalking Scarface through the water as he drinks.
It's so sinister but very well composed.
Is that the same as from the infamous Highway scene? Always loved that one but it's sadly mixed so quiet compared to everything else going on in the scene.
@@MKtheinstrumentalist Couldn't tell you from memory alone - but it plays from about 5 seconds into this scene (until about a minute in) just after Hare says "excuuuse me, but what ARE we going to do about Scarface?" - th-cam.com/video/cVv-WkdLU_4/w-d-xo.html - if that's of any help. There's a slight wobble in the audio due to the uploader having gotten this from an old VHS but you'll know the music right away and it's the easiest example I could think of that I could find quickly ^_^
Think it's in second episode of season two love that scene ends with lady blue saying no one can better scarface to which vixen replys not even you.. brilliant

Watching Mr. Pheasant see his wife roasted in the window upset me massively as a kid. As an adult rewatching it, I laughed my tits off at that scene! What a fucked up cartoon, it's turned me into a psycho!

I don't _think_ any sheet music exists - at least not publically - but I _might_ be able to make some - it'd take a while though. Your best bet in the meantime would be to try and track down the composers and see if they made any - if they did make copies they'd probably be left over from the single performance by the WDR Orchestra in Berlin, but to my knowledge that would only be of the last "movement" from 4:18 onwards as that was the only part played live. I agree though, it's a _beautiful_ suite.

It would be so special to have the music if at all possible. I will contact the composer - do you know the best way to go about this? Thank you so much for your help.
I might be able to arrange something, but I'm not that experienced with writing for strings - I'm a pianist so I'm not familiar with their notation. There's admittedly not much to find about the composer Dennis Cooper either, in way of contact. All I've found is a photo. :-P
If I can't get the sheet music satisfactory, would you be able to play the suite above via speakers? I know it wouldn't quite be the same as a live quartet, but in my opinion an original recording is better than a poorly written cover...
Haha - that's about as far as I got in my detective work. We do have a pianist as well. Music for him may well be enough if writing for strings is too tricky. We would appreciate anything you could do, but no pressue :)
Sorry - I've only just noticed second paragraph about the speakers. We will think about that option but it would be a shame as we have some amazing muscians who would do a fantastic job if they had the sheet music. I'm realising now what a tall order that is though!

I am in possession of an official mix of this from the BBC children's theme tunes tape, along with an extended version of the Noddy, Pingu and Joshua Jones theme. The version of AOFW on the tape is the opening credits merged with the end credits, but it's in glorious stereo, along with all the others, I can send it to you if you want

I love this show a lot. I stumbled across the show like 2 months ago in November 2016. The music is so beautiful I could listen to it all day. My favorite characters are mostly Fox and Badger. I also like the squirrels, Mole, Toad, Vixen and others. I do cry at some of the scenes doh, mostly the deaths. IDK if the original series aired on any of the US channels. But there was an american direct that had cut out scenes that were put into a movie. Fox, Adder, and Weasel got re dubbed. Fox sounds...ok I guess but Weasel and Adder's dubs sound terrible. There are also bland musical numbers in the american version that are annoying to listen too. sigh...At least I can watch the original British version online. It would be cool if the series was on Netflix or Hulu.

You know, you're rediscovering classics the same way I am, next thing you know you'll be into the Magic Roundabout or Charlie chalk or Noddy or even Oakie Doke (which thank goodness is on DVD), I don't know if AoFW is on DVD here, but I know there is a lot of German DVDs of it which have the English version on there, I recommend you watch it, I also have the VHS with the "Adventures of Fox" clip compilation on it!

So some of these are ripped from specific scenes from the series. Extra points if can pinpoint them.
You'll have a hard time doing that - these cues were not sourced from the episodes themselves! - but you can still track down when they were actually used there, I know that the second bit (with Whistler's theremin sting) was used a fair few times.
MKtheinstrumentalist yes that part seemed very specific! The dvd is being released soon so might get the opportunity to find out!
The DVD was already released years ago - it's from Germany though, but all the english dubs are on there. Failing that, youtube user Ermgle has EVERY episode on his channel, including the elusive series three. ;-)

MKtheinstrumentalist Ah, that's still very cool. One of the reasons I started playing horn is because I loved this bit of music so much. So perhaps with some adaptation I can play it on horn with piano accompaniment. :-)
