Yep. Here in the UK, children's TV shows and books aren't as heavily censored as they are elsewhere. This is totally fine. Other European countries aren't far behind. For example, there was the Redwall series. Placing the books and the graphic violence within them aside, even the series, which was animated by a French/Canadian team let quite a bit of the violence slip through. Even without the blood, they allowed for the moments of death of the animals to be shown, and their bodies were shown onscreen. Other shows that we grew up with are Noah's Island, in which many characters died, sometimes slowly and from illness, and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, in the first episode of which two characters were killed and resurrected, and throughout the series, the immortal main character was "killed" in various ways over and over again, one of which included Captain Scarlet being shot before falling off a building in the first episode. Others included a woman falling from a dam, and a man being slowly crushed to death in a car, complete with blood. Gore is not often shied away from, and death and the cruelty of nature and life in general are considered to be an important thing for children to learn about early on.
It's wild just how different Sinuous' death is in the book and the show. The book had her go down swinging being torn apart by the rats while in the show he just gets strangled.

interestingly the exact causes of their deaths are a little ambiguous. the first one (dreamer) is just found dead in the morning, it seems she was murdered as the animals all make this assumption (but we don't see any injuries so they don't specify in what manner she was murdered) they believe scarface (an enemy fox) killed her, but I don't think they ever find out so the audience never knows either. the second one (bold) was shot in the leg. it's ambiguous over whether or not this killed him. he may have died of slow acting lead poisoning. what seems more likely tho is that it was his mate whisper's fault. she used him and got pregnant by him as an excuse to return to his family in the deer sanctuary when he was still injured and not fit to travel. trying to make it back with his injury, as well as being beaten up by a pair of dogs on the way, is probably what finished him off.
ghostdog7575 if you thought that, it means we are fucked EVERYTHING IS FUCKED UP WE ARE DUCKED UP Shit I put ducked up But you all mean what I meant XD
I remember being so traumatised as a child watching this and I can still see why. They really didn’t pull any punches here did they. Tough life lessons at an early age.
I showed this to my nephew when he was 6, because of this show, he moved out of his mothers home, graduated from high school early, earned his degree, started his own company and was a home owner by the age of 19..
You know theres a film from the 50s, an adaptation of Animal Farm, that got a Universal (for kids) classification...and whoah....its disturbing. They can get away with more in animation, and if its animals.
This is way better than happy tree friends. That show is ridiculous and twisted. So am I... but of course, important deaths are the ones that matter. There's no point on killing someone for comedic reasons.
Not to mention that if it's the same kind of adder as I think it is, it's venom isn't necessarily strong enough to kill an animal that's the size of a fox. Or it might. At least for humans and big enough dogs their bites are not life-threatening.
06:32 That rat who killed Sinious had very entertaining death. Later when warden decides to thin the horde of rats by dropping poison all over place. The rat then eats the poison confidently states to Bully that warden's work is for nothing as most of them have become immune to rat poison....and drop dead just as he finish the sentence.
I watched this as a little kid. The part where the Porcupines got ran over while holding each other legit gave me depression. And yet my parents still put it on for me to watch all the time.
Even George R.R. Martin and William Shakespeare would watch this and be like “Jesus this is fucked up.” “I know right...and I wrote Macbeth for Christ’s sakes!”
school is wasting 7 h of my life in the same way people enjoy dramas/soaps where people die. Kids shows didn't often have life or death consequences or legitimate tension.
Kids have imagination that are not restrict by cultural background. Most kid do not have the experience or mutuality to process such complex concept or properly comprehend this level of violence. It will be more of a trauma for kid than a learning lesson. There many other ways to conduct such teaching.
+Blugale Doh Are you sure? I think "trauma" and "learning lesson" are pretty much the same thing in this case. You learn that nature is brutal and traumatizing. We all have to learn at some point, don't we? Even PBS Kids knows that, they've showed death before. There were at least one or two death scenes in the Wild Kratts show... but they cut the camera away from the parts where the animals died, unlike this show. Also, I've never experienced someone getting choked to death or witnessed anyone dying from snake venom before in real life, but I comprehended this perfectly. Kids aren't stupid, they can comprehend "he's DEAD!!" They know what those fangs and claws are for, and I'm pretty sure they DEFINITELY know what guns are. Even I knew what a gun was at 5 years old. I'm not suggesting we scare kids so much that they shit themselves, but I AM suggesting that showing a bit of death is okay. That's how you teach them. Also, I bet kids have watched The Lion King before and comprehended perfectly that Scar killed Mufasa because he wanted to be king. It's a very simple, yet violent concept. Makes things more intense. Kids deserve intense entertainment, don't they? As a child, I appreciated emotional content.. content that made me think and feel worried or something if it wasn't *too* traumatizing like some sort of crazy horror movie. TLDR: Kids can comprehend death, we teach kids by showing them darkness little by little, no sugarcoating it. Straight-up truth. Kids may have imagination, but they also have reality like how the rest of us have reality. Don't adults still have an imagination as well? Plus, a bit of trauma is good for intensity. Haven't you ever watched an emotional movie that scared you or made you a bit upset but you still enjoyed it? I know I have.
I'm really sorry, but I find this hilarious. The static animation coupled with the bored delivery from the actors makes it incredibly difficult to take these terrible deaths seriously. "Help. That’s my wife." 😂
Bold's death was saddest for me because he had such a hard life. He leaves home, gets injured repeatedly, takes a mate who only wants him because she wants her cubs to be descended from his father, and is finally made to bring her and the unborn cubs back to White Deer Park, where he finally dies of exhaustion and sickness.
+Solora Goldsun It's sad, but also meaningful. Bold promised to never set foot in the park again and never did. His sacrifise ment Wisper did love him in the end. He got to see his father again, and he died knowing his cubs would be safe and that his father was proud of him.
Ink sans IDK it's been a few years so I'm kinda going off the top of my head, but the level of gravity that the film brought was a stark (and rather refreshing but thrilling) difference compared to what I'm use to seeing today. It was raw and unsettling and possessed some interesting themes to ponder (like freedom vs. restriction, life vs. death, religion, culture, nature etc). I think its level of "darkness" and willingness to breach complex barriers is what adds to the level of depth and sophistication. I don't often come across animated movies like that today =)
Whoever came up with the brutally sad theme that plays before Pheasant and the Hedgehogs deaths... it still raises the hairs on my arms and it's been 30 years. Did they ever release the themes anywhere?
1:51 "What did I dooo? *repeats once* I DON'T KNOW! WHAT DID YOU DO OH I KNOW YOU SAID THAT SO THEY SHOT SOMETHING MOVING THAT THEY THOUGHT MADE THAT NOISE WHICH COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO A PARADOX
I forgot how fucking dark this show was. I feel bad for each scene with a death cause they've been so personified. But dayum those death screams are on par.
Nesha Ragas The Pheasent deaths were the worst for me. Quick recap, Mrs. Pheasant only got shot because her husband didn’t want to go on guard duty so she filled in. Then, when he came back to get Adder, who they accidentally left, Mr. Pheasant saw his wife’s body cooked on a platter. Then he started crying so hard that he couldn’t see the farmer coming to shoot him. G’night.
The BABY mice’s bodies being skewered on thorns of a bush which are covered in blood is probably my favorite death of the series because it just doesn’t give a fuck.
I remember watching this as a kid, I still remember the impaled mice. I also remember after Kestrel killed the mouse, the Mouse's husband ran over saying, 'You've killed my wife!' And Kestrel replied with, 'How embarrassing.' You ate someones wife! And that's all you can say!?
and how the bird which impaled the mice just said to Fox that they were 'easy catch'.. then again, it took the Fox's calling the bird as 'filth' as 'kind words and a compliment (for murdering the baby mice in such way)'. pff in Finnish dub the mouse husband indeed cried out 'you beast!! you ate my wife!!' to which the hawk (yes, she was called hawk) apologizes 'oh I am so sorry, I didn't mean to.. oh.. oh what a shame, what a shame..' guess shame and embarrassment can be seen as the same thing but I'd say better wording is indeed shame, since it wasn't only a shame that this happen, it wasn't only a shame that the mouse wife is now dead, but it's a shame on her (hawk) herself for not realizing / recognizing that the mouse wife was one of their own, since they had sworn the oath to not eat each other (the animals from the Farthing Wood).
No? That's not all she said. Before that, she said this: "Your wife?? Fieldmouse... I'm so sorry! I didn't realize!" You can even see her shed tears as she says it. And look at her face afterwards. That's genuine remorse.
There are two kinds of children's movies Children's movie #1: everything is sunshine and rainbows. Love, hugs, and friendship will always save the day :D children's movie #2: THE WORLD IS CRUEL, AND THE REAPER IS COMING BITCHES YOU BETTER HIDE!
the fox she killed bit her tail off, that's why she killed him, it was revenge. altho he only bit her tail off because she killed his son, that was seen earlier in this video
I loved this series when I was young. Death is an important part of life and I'm glad the audience of children was respected enough to be shown this. It was sad but it taught great life lessons

interestingly the exact causes of their deaths are a little ambiguous. the first one (dreamer) is just found dead in the morning, it seems she was murdered as the animals all make this assumption (but we don't see any injuries so they don't specify in what manner she was murdered) they believe scarface (an enemy fox) killed her, but I don't think they ever find out so the audience never knows either.
the second one (bold) was shot in the leg. it's ambiguous over whether or not this killed him. he may have died of slow acting lead poisoning. what seems more likely tho is that it was his mate whisper's fault. she used him and got pregnant by him as an excuse to return to his family in the deer sanctuary when he was still injured and not fit to travel. trying to make it back with his injury, as well as being beaten up by a pair of dogs on the way, is probably what finished him off.
Dreamer and bold are the names of the 2 fox cubs

Sif Greyfang cyandie
it's an adder, but why tf does it kill them instantly
Not to mention that if it's the same kind of adder as I think it is, it's venom isn't necessarily strong enough to kill an animal that's the size of a fox. Or it might. At least for humans and big enough dogs their bites are not life-threatening.
Sif Greyfang the snake is my favorite character
The adder purposely saved up and used all of her venom at once.

I never felt this show to be scary or violent, it was my favourite TV series as a child, I loved it.
school is wasting 7 h of my life in the same way people enjoy dramas/soaps where people die. Kids shows didn't often have life or death consequences or legitimate tension.
Skitty2Bruce same here! And i think some honesty in kids tv-shows is good for them :)
Kids have imagination that are not restrict by cultural background. Most kid do not have the experience or mutuality to process such complex concept or properly comprehend this level of violence. It will be more of a trauma for kid than a learning lesson. There many other ways to conduct such teaching.
+Blugale Doh
Are you sure?
The Toontastic Toon I feel so sorry that I made you wrote that.

Kat McGee *wait wait hold on u ENJOYED water ship down!?! HOW??!!!*

Nesha Ragas ?
Nesha Ragas The Pheasent deaths were the worst for me. Quick recap, Mrs. Pheasant only got shot because her husband didn’t want to go on guard duty so she filled in. Then, when he came back to get Adder, who they accidentally left, Mr. Pheasant saw his wife’s body cooked on a platter. Then he started crying so hard that he couldn’t see the farmer coming to shoot him. G’night.
Agreed
The BABY mice’s bodies being skewered on thorns of a bush which are covered in blood is probably my favorite death of the series because it just doesn’t give a fuck.
I remember watching this as a kid, I still remember the impaled mice.
I also remember after Kestrel killed the mouse, the Mouse's husband ran over saying, 'You've killed my wife!' And Kestrel replied with, 'How embarrassing.' You ate someones wife! And that's all you can say!?
and how the bird which impaled the mice just said to Fox that they were 'easy catch'.. then again, it took the Fox's calling the bird as 'filth' as 'kind words and a compliment (for murdering the baby mice in such way)'.
pff in Finnish dub the mouse husband indeed cried out 'you beast!! you ate my wife!!' to which the hawk (yes, she was called hawk) apologizes 'oh I am so sorry, I didn't mean to.. oh.. oh what a shame, what a shame..'
guess shame and embarrassment can be seen as the same thing but I'd say better wording is indeed shame, since it wasn't only a shame that this happen, it wasn't only a shame that the mouse wife is now dead, but it's a shame on her (hawk) herself for not realizing / recognizing that the mouse wife was one of their own, since they had sworn the oath to not eat each other (the animals from the Farthing Wood).
No? That's not all she said. Before that, she said this: "Your wife?? Fieldmouse... I'm so sorry! I didn't realize!" You can even see her shed tears as she says it. And look at her face afterwards. That's genuine remorse.
