You can't have finished the game WITHOUT running into zombie hordes, you have to kill 3 different hordes in the main storyline. There's also a horde mode that opens where you can wipe out 20+ different smaller ones. The 3 in the storyline consists of 150+ mobs, the largest more than 200.
i think for the game and its gameplay, there's plenty of hordes. but if you're comparing it to left 4 dead, with constant hordes every 45 seconds, then yeah, it's virtually empty. but goddamn i played some l4d2 after playing this and the hordes felt so weak. the hordes that are in days gone are insane.

Just gonna put this here: there are 40 zombie hordes in this game. You fight like 3 of them during the story, the other 37 hordes roam in certain areas in the world. The locations for all of the hordes are revealed on the map once you beat the story. So basically the hordes are meant as endgame content. Would have been nice if we got to fight more hordes during the story, but they are there.
Ranton, you did the hordes wrong brotha. My biggest gripe in this game are loading screens and fps drops in drive mode. Horde being rare wasnt really a problem for me. The game tells you a few times where they are, mass gravesites. Also, time of day is a factor. If you didnt check the barn during broad day light that was where they were probably. I felt like i was playing "i am legend" and sorta followed that movie's rules when playing this.
I beat the Death Train Horde during the early stages, back before I even knew who Tucker was. I was expecting something similar to what we'd been shown at E3 and by Game Informer, not just running around shooting barrels and trucks (which are OP asf).

Actually, *about the hordes*, at some point in the game there's this mission where some dude in one of the camps (I think the military one where Sarah was at) is working on a "weapon of mass destruction" (lol) to be used against the zombies, which actually just turn out to be napalm Molotovs (lol) and when you go out into the field to test said weapon, you have to take out an entire horde in a particular area. Now I'm not sure how you missed this, maybe it's a side mission or something, but for me that was the single most memorable experience in the whole game because I had to systematically take down a MOTHA FUKING HUGE ASS number of Zombos- by myself - using the explosives in the area, leveraging the environment and man was it fucking FUN as shit. I ended up spending hours planning my routes and setting up all kinds of different traps in strategic places to make the best use of everything at my disposal to complete the mission successfully I definitely think that was an experience unique to this game and totally a full blown feature. Afterwards me and my friends joked about how we where the real weapon of mass destruction and started calling Deacon "The Terminator". Dude, there are zombie hordes all over the map, and they vary in size so that you can work up to taking on the huge ones late game. There are 40 hordes in the game and the world size is medium/small as far as open world games go. If they were all colossal, the game wouldn't be playable. Its a ridiculous inaccurate complaint that makes me think you just B-lined the story and did nothing else. edit: you said you beat it in 30 hours, which means you probably played it on easy and fast traveled everywhere without exploring.
Completely agree. Zombie hordes are a great part of this game, the devs did them very well, they are all over the map of varying sizes and are a challenge (especially in the early parts of the game when your weapons aren't so hot). You don't have to run away from them at all, but you do need to pick them off or lay traps etc. The hordes are great and you completely missed out on it and then claimed the hordes are a negative aspect of the game. Geezus. Utter nonsense. How can you review days gone without actually experiencing the horde feature that makes the game unique?
It took me like 3 weeks to finish exploring the game I dont think he played it He just saw some bad reviews and decided to whine about ridiculous minor things
you must not have really played the game all the way through, there are like 30 different hordes in the game, and there is like 3 hordes you have to fight including the sawmill horde.
There are 40 hordes. Only 1 thats as huge as the sawmill 1 with 500 freakers total because its 2 hordes of 250. But there are a few more of 300. In the starting area there are some very small hordes of 40 to 80 freakers but the average is between 100 and 200. Of course ranton played the game wrong. He played only the story and didnt kill any hordes. I finished the story at around 60% hordes killed. They are made in a way that you can kill the majority of them in the first map as soon as you get the MWS and the smp9 (kill 4 hordes). For the bigger hordes you are gonna need maybe an mg45 (you get it by killing a big guy. Its quite early in the game) and thats it. Mg45, mws and smp9 are good enough. Chicago chopper, smp9 and rpd are even better. The only criticism i have for the game is that they stretched the weapon unlocks way too much. There are like 40 guns in the game. Thats a TON. Way too many. Why? Cuz by the time i unlock half of them i already finished the game including side missions and i got way better guns. Like you literally get at end the mayor and the sheriff. I wanted the us556 so much but i got it at the end when i had way better guns and i was 1 mission away from getting the amazing rock chuck, which i used only for the final mission and to kill like 20 hordes. They should have dropped the lvl 3 of the camps. So you start at level 1 instead of lvl 0 and have lvl 1 and lvl 2 guns available as lvl 1 but the slightly better guns cost more. You can use the ears to get those cheaper guns early or wait and do missions. Then after doing half of the missions for the camp you unlock the lvl 3 guns, which now are lvl2, but 1 unique gun which is given for free after yiu complete all the missions for the camp. The camps that dont sell guns have a special gun as well. Like have the iron mike camp give you the sheriff pistol and the military camp give you the mayor pistol. This way you get to unlock and buy guns constantly and you are still encouraged to level up camps to max level and do their missions. Oh and huge thing: dont make all the fkn coolest guns early unlocks as shitty guns and some WW2 and western crap as late game unlocks. They didnt even include a western revolver! The us556 should have been a lvl 2 military camp unlock, not the fkn ppsh and chicago chopper. The early camps should have had some crappy ww2 guns not the military guys with the best weapons like a fkn barret 50 cal and desert eagle. I was seriously contemplating using the mws for the whole fukin game cuz i went to the 2nd map before unlocking the us556 and the ppsh and chicago chopper arent as cool. The fact that the AK47 wasnt sold anywhere and it was literally the 2nd worst primary possed me off.

I actually didn't have any frame rate issues until I was done with the story. It was only once, right after getting away from like 6 Freakers and nothing but some rocks were in front of me on screen (I was on that really narrow path at the militia checkpoint). I felt like the touch pad was extremely too touchy and it got me killed or generally fucked over in far too many situations. I saw plenty of big hordes myself and at least 2 others as massive as the sawmill. As someone else mentioned, time of day is a big factor. Hordes exist from beginning to end but don't become as prevalent until the later game, probably to give you something to do once the story is over. My biggest issue was the lengthy loading screens. I thought the overall plot was clear. His wife went missing, found out she's still alive, wants to get her back. Not saying the story was phenomenal or something or that he was completely wrong. Also Deacon really isn't that bland and doesn't constantly talk about being a biker in a biker gang. They do mention he is a drifter a lot though. I think my biggest issue with the story is how they bring something up, like the anarchists coming back for example, and then the next 20 times the same topic is brought up the characters act like it's the first time they've heard about it. Hear the anarchists are back and he's like "I haven't seen 'em in years." Hears it 5 more times, says the same thing each time. Then straight up kill a whole group and later hunt one down in a motorcycle chase and right after he's told they're around and says "Anarchists? Really? I thought they were wiped out. Haven't seen 'em in years." The only real bugs I've had is everything going low poly, in one case a texture blocked an entrance to a cave during a mission and I couldn't progress and in another I fell through a bridge and could walk and be seen through objects. Another was cars that had previously been pushed away being back in place and invisible and killing me when I crash into them, only appearing when I do and then teleporting to the place they were pushed and should have been.
Great video man aggree with everything but one thing is that there are 40 hordes, they are not that rare and if you explore while doing the main story and do some side quests you will definitely see 6 or 7 of them
Kungfu Master there are 3 hordes you fight in the main story, after the story I player I had 45 hours in the game with about another 8 from horde hunting
yeah, theres 3 horde missions, but the hordes are in the world all the time, i ran into a bunch before the endgame but i also had maybe 25 or so left after the main game..

Disagree with you on one thing. 40 hordes is more than enough and they are there to be found around the time you can take on the smaller hordes. Its daunting early game but possible and yeah the sawmill horde like a handful of others are for late game. End of game all hordes are visible on map.
I really enjoyed playing this game, it takes awhile for the story to kick in but man it gets crazy. FYI I use a SSD it definitely improved my overall experience on the PS4 pro.

Hordes have locations and you can only kill them when you're loaded with explosives.....and ammo. Their locations are usually in the same place and to tackle them is based on if you're ready. I agree with Ranton, the story is sublime and Deacon and boozer are the shittiest characters. It needs more diverse characters. Boozer could have been an obese dullard hillbilly. and Deacon could have had at least a metal plate in his skull. That would have balanced it out.

In the starting area there are some very small hordes of 40 to 80 freakers but the average is between 100 and 200. Of course ranton played the game wrong. He played only the story and didnt kill any hordes. I finished the story at around 60% hordes killed. They are made in a way that you can kill the majority of them in the first map as soon as you get the MWS and the smp9 (kill 4 hordes). For the bigger hordes you are gonna need maybe an mg45 (you get it by killing a big guy. Its quite early in the game) and thats it. Mg45, mws and smp9 are good enough. Chicago chopper, smp9 and rpd are even better. The only criticism i have for the game is that they stretched the weapon unlocks way too much. There are like 40 guns in the game. Thats a TON. Way too many. Why? Cuz by the time i unlock half of them i already finished the game including side missions and i got way better guns. Like you literally get at end the mayor and the sheriff. I wanted the us556 so much but i got it at the end when i had way better guns and i was 1 mission away from getting the amazing rock chuck, which i used only for the final mission and to kill like 20 hordes. They should have dropped the lvl 3 of the camps. So you start at level 1 instead of lvl 0 and have lvl 1 and lvl 2 guns available as lvl 1 but the slightly better guns cost more. You can use the ears to get those cheaper guns early or wait and do missions. Then after doing half of the missions for the camp you unlock the lvl 3 guns, which now are lvl2, but 1 unique gun which is given for free after yiu complete all the missions for the camp. The camps that dont sell guns have a special gun as well. Like have the iron mike camp give you the sheriff pistol and the military camp give you the mayor pistol. This way you get to unlock and buy guns constantly and you are still encouraged to level up camps to max level and do their missions. Oh and huge thing: dont make all the fkn coolest guns early unlocks as shitty guns and some WW2 and western crap as late game unlocks. They didnt even include a western revolver! The us556 should have been a lvl 2 military camp unlock, not the fkn ppsh and chicago chopper. The early camps should have had some crappy ww2 guns not the military guys with the best weapons like a fkn barret 50 cal and desert eagle. I was seriously contemplating using the mws for the whole fukin game cuz i went to the 2nd map before unlocking the us556 and the ppsh and chicago chopper arent as cool. The fact that the AK47 wasnt sold anywhere and it was literally the 2nd worst primary possed me off.
Yeah the problem with hordes is that you just have to run them around in circles and shoot them. It’s nothing too unique honestly.

I didn't realize how much I missed Ranton until now.
I actually didn't have any frame rate issues until I was done with the story. It was only once, right after getting away from like 6 Freakers and nothing but some rocks were in front of me on screen (I was on that really narrow path at the militia checkpoint). I felt like the touch pad was extremely too touchy and it got me killed or generally fucked over in far too many situations.
I saw plenty of big hordes myself and at least 2 others as massive as the sawmill. As someone else mentioned, time of day is a big factor. Hordes exist from beginning to end but don't become as prevalent until the later game, probably to give you something to do once the story is over.
My biggest issue was the lengthy loading screens. I thought the overall plot was clear. His wife went missing, found out she's still alive, wants to get her back. Not saying the story was phenomenal or something or that he was completely wrong. Also Deacon really isn't that bland and doesn't constantly talk about being a biker in a biker gang. They do mention he is a drifter a lot though.
I think my biggest issue with the story is how they bring something up, like the anarchists coming back for example, and then the next 20 times the same topic is brought up the characters act like it's the first time they've heard about it. Hear the anarchists are back and he's like "I haven't seen 'em in years." Hears it 5 more times, says the same thing each time. Then straight up kill a whole group and later hunt one down in a motorcycle chase and right after he's told they're around and says "Anarchists? Really? I thought they were wiped out. Haven't seen 'em in years."
The only real bugs I've had is everything going low poly, in one case a texture blocked an entrance to a cave during a mission and I couldn't progress and in another I fell through a bridge and could walk and be seen through objects. Another was cars that had previously been pushed away being back in place and invisible and killing me when I crash into them, only appearing when I do and then teleporting to the place they were pushed and should have been.

How did you finish the main story without doing any horde missions? Kinda discredits your entire review.
Kungfu Master there are 3 hordes you fight in the main story, after the story I player I had 45 hours in the game with about another 8 from horde hunting

It basically means something along the lines of "the best part about it" or just "not (outstanding) good". Thinking that the yelllow part of the egg would be the best about it and when you say 'its not the yelllow from the egg' it like sayin you messed up/missed the point/were not good enough. There are different possible interpretations.

Disagree with you on one thing. 40 hordes is more than enough and they are there to be found around the time you can take on the smaller hordes. Its daunting early game but possible and yeah the sawmill horde like a handful of others are for late game. End of game all hordes are visible on map.

I really enjoyed playing this game, it takes awhile for the story to kick in but man it gets crazy. FYI I use a SSD it definitely improved my overall experience on the PS4 pro.

the idea that there aren’t a lot of hordes is insane, there are like 50 all over the place and they’re labeled on the map. they’re not THAT hard to deal with either
Hordes have locations and you can only kill them when you're loaded with explosives.....and ammo. Their locations are usually in the same place and to tackle them is based on if you're ready. I agree with Ranton, the story is sublime and Deacon and boozer are the shittiest characters. It needs more diverse characters. Boozer could have been an obese dullard hillbilly. and Deacon could have had at least a metal plate in his skull. That would have balanced it out.
Like Mad Max (PC )there should be a guy like this guy in the video to be a mechanic cool and crazy for something a little more up lifting!
