When the 3DO released in 1993...we had never seen anything like it. My cousin got one around the time it first came out and even though I was highly impressed...I was all about my Sega Genesis/Sega CD and Snes at the time. That was until I played Doom and found out it was coming to the 3DO (this was still in 1993). I asked my parents for one but for 650 bucks they told me to go pound sand. Aaaah but there was hope for Doom on a console...
There was another impressive piece of hardware that released with next generation graphics for a lot less and when I asked my parents they said yes. I got the Atari Jaguar with Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, AVP, and Super Burnout (in early'ish 1994). My cousin and I went to console war with each other over which one was better. At the time the lines were very blurry as to which machine was superior. What people seem to not understand is how incredibly huge it was to have all of those top shelf FPS's all at once on a console back then. It made owning a Jaguar in 1994 so worth it that I'm still happy I got one when I did. It compared very well to the 3DO at the time and no one really knew which one was going to take off. Unfortunately, neither stuck and the very next year I got both the Playstation and Saturn practically abandoning the Jaguar completely (I traded in so many games to pull that off...).
Addendum- The 3DO was a freaking showstopper all the way until Sony and Sega showed up with their "super 32-bit systems." By then the 3DO was simply outclassed by better, cheaper hardware.

And Wicked Man, 3DO is the real name in fact, you keep on saying Panasonic 🤭😜.This console was crazy when it launched in the market. Imagine your friends playing Genesis or Super Nintendo and boom you launch a 3DO game 🎉😍😎❤️. Graphics were incredible at that time, month before PS1 and Saturn launch date.
This year will be the 30th anniversairy of 3DO, so thank you so much it's founder Trip Hawkins 🥳🤗😊.
A friend of mine José, who passed away in 2017, had the 3DO FZ-10. He bought it when they were liquidating it for $250 and got all the games, add-ons and controllers. It's a fun system it had the only version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo and the best home version of Samurai Showdown outside of the Neo-Geo. But at the beginning it was so expensive. I got mine for $90 in Best Buy. FZ-10, games at the time were $5- $10
@@jarman365 bro you made it out like a bandit! At the time it was liquidated I was living in P.R. which is very expensive place to live in. I never saw the 3DO there for $90 but I think you could find games for $10. Very good score bro!👍

Sorry to hear about your friend, couldn't you get your hands on it from your friend from his family? It has indeed some very cool games. The biggest shame is that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was almost released but got cancelled in his final stage. In oktober 2022 (not long ago) there was news that someone has the game in his possession. Let's hope he will give it to some developers to finalize the game so we can enjoy it on the 3DO.
Fun Fact..the 3DO doesn't have copywrite protection.. so if you were interested in playing the library, its as easy as burning them to CDs..
Still playing Star Control 2, The Horde, Wing Commander 3, and a few other 3DO games to this day that I've owned since the 90s. It's a real bummer that they never got their stuff together and actually made the M2
Just counted my 3DO games collection 65 boxed and 6 jewel cases. I paid less than $10 for each one and some less than $5. I bought them when nobody wanted them from KB Toys and EB Games at the mall. So glad I did because now they are expensive!
I had an older friend that worked at babbages back in the day.. needless to say we had everything day one.. No copywrite protection didn't help its inevitable death..

Subscribed! I love 3DO. I bought a new FZ-10 back in the 90's for $50. They had a huge stack of them in the store and nobody wanted them. I still have it and just played Killing Time on it.
Killing time, hell: a cyberpunk thriller and samurai showdown 2 was my my gave 3do games.

Panasonic FZ10 & Goldstar Alive 2 were the units that looked like a game system to me. The others looked like hifi equipment
Same with the Philips CDi. The demonstration ones I saw in the early 90s as a kid, that I regarded as a high tech rich persons machine, looked like a VCR (or stackable hifi, like you say) but when I could finally afford one, I got the purple boxed console-looking one but still had to buy the game controller separately!

The Panasonic OEM controllers still feel like some of the best quality pads I’ve ever used.
Man, this brings back so many memories. Good and bad I may add. I recall seeing Fifa displayed in a Toronto store window and I had to have it. After $750.00, I was in heaven. Sadly, that didn't last long. Was really pissed off when it all went to hell for 3D0. Thank you for the video.
I remember the 3DO did a pretty good Samurai Shodown back in the day. It was prohibitively expensive.
I liked megarace. It came with my Packard bell computer in 1994. I also got to play the 3do version and liked it 🙂

It looked incredible (to me at the time) but played like shit.
Loved Return Fire! 2 player mode was the best way to play this game with your buddies!!
I got a 3do Fz-10 in 2000 for mad cheap with like 28 games from Ebay. I remember I sold it for less than $100 shortly after. I should have kept it. I rebought an RGB modded 3DO in like 2015 or so. for like $250. I still have it. its fun to play the good games every once in a while.
Wow I have the US Version from Goldstar 3DO since the 90s but I have never seen before the Sanyo 3DO, I know only the Panasonic, Goldstar and the Toploader FZ10 Version.
There’s also the Creative 3DO card for installing on your PC. LGR did a video about it!

Me too! I became a Soundgarden fan because of that game. I also remember going to the fair with my girlfriend and we got on that ride that spins and pins your back against the wall then it goes nearly vertical while they played Black Hole Sun.

Does anyone know if using an ODE gives you options for save game memory, as the FZ-1 required a separate disk for the memory manager? I'm just getting my Japanese FZ-1 modded with an internal ODE (the disk drive had failed anyway) and the 230v power supply, but not sure if the save games can go onto the USB stick or if the system will still look for internal memory.
My brother has the FZ-1. Crash N Burn was my most favorite game to play.

I had the Panasonic one with the disc tray, i seen the other Panasonic one in shop's. I didn't know the other two existed they look like VCRs lol, a mini of this would be nice because it had the best ever version of Super Street Fighter 2.

@@WickedGamerCollector In the Netherlands only Dixons and Retro games like Replay sold it Wicked. In 1994 / 1995 it was for sale.
I bought the FZ1 when it launched and loved it compared to the playstaion. Mine was the Starblade edition, a game i played to death back in the day, Need for speed and my favourite back then, Wing Commander 3. The boxed unit is in my loft allong with a load of games its not seen the light of day for over 20 years !!!
When it released it was out of myprice range andnow it still is 😂

I had the Goldstar 3DO in the 90's, it was really impressive until the PlayStation and Saturn launched. The one issue I had with it was that it always crashed when playing Space Hulk, I'm not sure if there was compatibility problems with any other games?
I got my FZ-10 back then and traded with my friend for a week who had a PS1. He didn't like my 3DO at all.
The Goldstar system got pretty hot, so it's very possible it over heated unless it was doing it early on? I remember that ended up modifying mine with a fan and later traded it for the older one on the bottom right.
I remember Megarace. I don't remeber it looking that bad. I got it for the PC When I got a CD ROM for the first (Creative card addon) and got games because they had FMV like Mad Dog Mcree It was also the first time I played DVD's in 1998.

I have 2 each of those Capcom pads for 3DO, SNES, and Mega Drive.
I can't believe I've never heard of these and I've owned consoles since the Fountain Force 2 in the early '80s. Were there some countries that didn't get these? I'm sure they never came out in New Zealand, I could be wrong though.

Noteworthy is that the FZ-10 comes with a bundled memory manager, which the FZ-1 does not. Also, some games run at a different speed in 240p mode on the FZ-1, which may not be desirable.
I have the memory manager disc for the FZ-1 but own an FZ-10.
It should be noted, the ONLY 3DO with the 240p/480i switch is the EARLY Japanese only system. Also, the Japanese FZ-1's didn't come with a internal fan. You can add the fan as their pads on the board are there, but there's no fan header, so one would have to solder the fan wires directly to the board or add the header.

I had the 4th 3DO chunky system on the start on the video to the bottom right, It was f**king terrible for games, Need for speed and roadrash wasn't bad, But for games this is one of many systems like this to avoid personally, Just like the CDI and atari jaguar 🤮
The plummer game kind of looked like adult (porn) movie type situation. Back wen adult movies had a "story" or reason when 2 or more adults came to be with one another.
Still have my Gold Star 3DO. Bought it when it came out. Stocking up on games now.
The 3DO didn't really age and get cheaper it just stayed high in price so it is a console that most people will never purchase because it isn't something that most people would want to spend a lot of money on when you can emulate cheaper.
