  • What's it like to jump off a 10-meter platform, like the Olympic divers do? Austin360 fitness writer Pam LeBlanc of Fit City and a small group of other folks who've never done it are about to find out at the Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

      As we get older, we become more aware of our own mortality...
      We also realize shit hurts waaaay more and takes longer to heal as an adult than as a kid. Now don't get me wrong, this doesn't stop me from doing stupid stuff but it does make me hesitate and think afterward, "that was a dumb idea...yep, gonna do it again."
      And end up in bed all the next day complaining everything hurts!

    I was in Madrid at the University of Madrid, and there was a diving pool with a 10 meter platform. I dove off of it about 3-4 times. I figured I wouldn't have as much control if I jumped. My head hurt a bit, but there were people sitting around the pool edge, and they would applaud anyone who took the plunge.

    10m is not a 3 story jump, 10m is at about the CEILING level of the 3rd floor. If the floor height is the typical 8ft, then the 10m is like standing on the 5th floor. Without bubbling, the smack can easily bruise the thigh and hip, and shock the spine and neck.

    • @vedantsridhar8378
      @vedantsridhar8378 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pool has no bubbles. If you fall the wrong way, you'll get severe bruises but the pool guards say that's your problem since you chose to jump that high. Therefore I always make sure I am completely straight while jumping from 10m.

    When I was in high school, we had a pool with a ten meter board. I would always jump out too far and land a few feet from the pool divider rope. I remember my PE coach yelling at me for that and I was banned from jumping off the ten meter platform for the rest of the year.

    There was a public pool that use to have a diving tower just outside Chicago. We had so much fun in childhood there and I was absolutely fearless,running as fast as I could and jumping as far out into the pool as possible from the 10m platform. Did swan dives and can-openers too. Unfortunately they demolished the tower last year for liability reasons.
    People who are afraid or are not confident in themselves should stay away to prevent accidents.They ruin it for everybody else who love to do it and have good enough technique to avoid injury.
