You know, even after all these years, the Meguires Ultimate line of compounds and polishes are some of the most user friendly, results-oriented polishes I've come across. Wont dust, I have used it out in the sun, and I can find it anywhere for cheap. It wont work miracles on major scratches but it will restore your paint condition to something better that 95% of the cars that you park around at the grocery store parking lot. Nowadays we have to be cautious of super thin, super soft clearcoat anyway, so it is a great product for conserving clear coat, if you use it with a little sense.

i got a vonhaus orbital polisher with those pads for $88, i had some meguiars ultimate compound and polish already which i applied by hand but wanted a clear look so after applying that with the buffer it worked 100% being my first time working on a car with a machine, finishing my car with a nice liquid wax to protect it and honestly i am happy the way the progess came out

Finally polished my car after getting a body shop paint job and performing a one step paint correction with Griots Fast Correcting Cream a few months ago. The one step was so tedious, I procrastinated performing a polish. I've been washing the car weekly with Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash Concentrate. I used Griots Perfecting Cream as my polish with a TORQ 10FX DA. I hated running a DA over my car again. Side panels are so tedious to me. But BOY, did the car look amazing afterwards!!! I cheated on some areas and did a larger than 2x2 area. Still looked great. Really high shine with no wax. An amazing difference.
The one issue I had was using Armor All Ultra Shine as a clay lube with my Chemical Guys Clay Block. It degraded the clay block. When I went to use Duplicolor paint prep, I was pulling off black muck! Fortunately only my roof needed some very light claying. Love learning about car care from Scott.

Good video thanks for taking time out of your schedule to pass on your ideas and thoughts that youve developed in your experiences. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im going crazy here where I live (South Georgia). I recently purchased a 4 yr old used red sporty looking vehicle and I cleaned and then leveled out the paint and put a sealant and some quick wax on it. I guess it looks okay because now I have co-workers wanting me to do their vehicles also which is no biggie to me but Im very OCD when it comes to vehicle paint. This OCD Ive found in the past can cause me to "FIX" something till its "BROKE". But man I just cant stand any marks, swirls, haze or dullness in any of my vehicles paint jobs. I just dont know how to tell them to go and keep wasting their money taking it to the local guys who really do a poor job for what theyre being paid for. And if I do decide to do their vehicles Id be taking money out of the local detailer's pocket's and I dont want to do that either. I have a good paying job so I dont want to take away from those earning a living doing detailing. Ughhh!!! But I sure like your videos tho and thanks for testing out so many products and giving us your opinion's. Best of luck.

its worth saying, we all need to respect the clear coat..my business is all about making cars defect free and really shiny, but sometimes thats not always realistic and we have to be careful and not remove to much clear coat because we want perfect paint..i have to dial back my expectations as well at times and honor the reason the clear coat is on the car in the first place:)..i so understand your love for your car and wanting perfect paint..much love my friend:)

Loving the videos Scott! Could you make a video addressing tire browning? I've been picking up more customers in my detailing business recently, and t seems like whenever I clean their non-maintained tires, I always get a brown haze coming back after the tire dries, no matter what I use or how many passes I make. I've tried Meguiar's Super Degreaser, Optimum Power Clean, and Super Clean. You can't tell it after I dress the tires, but that still doesn't make me feel any better.

I cleaned a white car that hadnt been cleaned in a long time. I used superclean at 2 parts water, 1 part superclean as my clay lubricant. I did small area and rinsed often. Amazing how much road film came off while claying. I had small areas of brown liquid. Nasty. End result was a beautiful deep shine.

can i use the purple power as a clay lube so i dont need to use the paint-prep?

Mark Lin definately, its better than to use any clay lube that comes with the clay itself. Just use the soap as lube (:

Why is it if u have 1 little piece of grit stuck in your wash mitt you end up scratching the shit out of it? But when you're claying it, all that crap gets on the bar but it doesn't leave a mark.

Hi Scott, i'm hoping you (or any other detailers here) can shine some light on this. So today i did my first paint correction on my friends car. it came out amazing got rid of a bunch of swirls blah blah blah. So when i got to the polishing part i used Meguiar's Ultra Finishing Polish M205. After buffing it on the vehicle we went to wipe it off with a micro fiber and it was extremely hard to take off. We spent more time wiping this stuff off then applying it. Any specific reason you think that would cause this? We did one panel at a time so it's not like it sat for over 20 seconds. Thanks!

Probably worked it at it pretty hard and got hot, so that caused it to get stuck. But try to not stay in obe area, but to over lap the polish. To remove hard polish use water and rag.

Hey Scott! The last time I used the meguiars ultimate polish I ran into a issue I never ran into before. When I put it on, it was hard to take off for some reason. Normally when I use the ultimate polish it comes right off, not sure what I did wrong 🤷🏾‍♂️

tavey32 how are you storing the polish?
Was it sitting in high temperatures and for a long period of time since using last?

I've got so many questions. I keep seeing so many different combinations of pads and polishes and waxes. You used the ultimate polish with a orange pad but in a different video I seen a white pad with the ultimate polish. My 14 mustang gt is black I've gathered a DA waxes microfiber clothes drying towels. I'm stuck at which pad and polish/compound I'll need. I have light swirls that mostly disappear when waxed but of course it last till the wax stops. What would you recommend for this as far as polishes, pads and what steps. Thanks! Joe

Go with whichever one you like best, both work fine but the orange pad will give it a little extra cut

      Joe,
That's been my experience as well. I have old vehicles and want to do something this summer. Cutting, polishing, waxing, clay bars, polishers, swirls, etc. etc. I'm lost.

Love your vids!!!! Question.... i have harbor freight da polisher. I feel that the 6” pads are to big for cars. What size pad do you recommend and where can I purchase a backing plate to accommodate the new pad? Thanks and keep up the great work

Griots correcting cream and orange pad or microfiber pad (microfiber will be faster) Can follow with Ultimate polish but don't have to.

Scott, how the heck do I deal with a used truck that has a faded roof & hood? Love the truck & I really want to do "what" I can to make it look good... Can I apply the same steps to the faded areas of the truck or do you suggest something else.. Any advice is appreciated... It's a daily driver work truck, so I will not be getting it painted.. :-)

if roof & hood are really faded and you want to find a retail product to help with that, I would try using meguiars ultimate compound first and your second step would be using their polish.the polish alone may not help pulling up the faded paint:)but yes use the same machine and a orange cutting pad with the compound but perhaps when you use the polish after, try a black finishing pad.let me know if you have any other questions, plus my website is listed below this video and you can find my number and text if you need more advice.I think you will do great:)

Hello, Scott. I love your videos and am an enthusiastic subscriber. I'm having some trouble with something you may be able to help me with. I've got a Harbor Freight DA and I like it. Thanks for that suggestion. Here's my problem; I'm struggling with excessive heat when either cutting or even just polishing. My backing plates and foam pads are getting so hot, they are being ruined very quickly. My first backing plate was by a company called Astro. It melted so much it was destroyed the first day of use. Not that much use either. Orange, Chemical Guys, Hex-Logic pad I used on it, was also destroyed by heat shortly after I got a second backing plate (Chemical Guys) and used it very little. For some reason it is getting so hot in the center that the pads are also destroyed, completely caved in and sunken in the middle, middle part of hook and loop melted and pretty much gone. This is all with very moderate use. What am I doing wrong? Now my second backing plate is showing signs of melting in the middle too. And I can't even get through one car without destroying the foam pads from all the melting in the center. ?? Now I've got a Lake Country white pad which is also sunken in the middle from melted hook and loop in the back of the pad. ??? Thanks for your videos and I hope you have an answer for this. It is getting discouraging, not to mention, expensive. Thank you.

hmmm..are you applying to much pressure when working in your 2x2 area?..are your arm speeds to slow and not enough polish or compound on the pad (dry buffing)?..are you cleaning your pads regularly and not allowing them to build up with used compound and clear coat?...what speed are you running at on the DA when compounding the paint and what speed when your using the polish?..i can make a video using the harbor freight and how to reduce heat on backing plate and velcro area of pads if that would help...much love my friend

    • @johngretzinger
      @johngretzinger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think I'm applying too much pressure but I'll try to be more aware of that. Now that you mention the 2x2 area, I realize I do a much larger area. Maybe like the whole hood of a small car or a whole door. Could that be part of the problem? Also maybe not enough polish or compound. Perhaps that is my problem. I'll try using more. I do clean the pads often. I have been using my DA on about 5 for everything. ?? Thanks so much for suggesting several ideas to work on. And, yes, i would love to see a video on reducing heat on the backing plate. Thanks again and take care, Scott. I really appreciate you and your videos.

I had the same problem and had to change back to the Warrior backing plate that came with the DA and it worked fine, I purchased the Meguires backing plate but it was getting to hot so I switched back to the HF backing plate and it worked perfectly.
