  • Maharashtrian Village Style Chicken Curry | Desi Chicken Curry | Indian Village (Gavthi) Chicken Curry
    This is a spicy Village style Chicken curry mostly cooked with Country Chicken and with ingredients easily available at every home. Though this recipe is rustic, it can be made in our urban home using broiler chicken. This is a typical Maharashtrian Village Style dish of cooking the country chicken with bones spiced with green masala paste; flavoured with ginger & garlic and garam masala along with the coarsely ground black masala which enhances and highlights the flavours of this chicken curry.
    90% of the people in villages with large family add potatoes to the chicken curry to increase the quantity of the dish.
    Though this gravy is more on the liquid side as per Village Style, it will be very tasty with rice or bhakri. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

    Ingredients
    For Green Masala Paste :
    15 Garlic (medium sized cloves)
    1 ½ inch Ginger roughly chopped
    6 Green Chillies
    1 ½ cup Coriander Leaves (1 cup = 200 ml)
    For Black Masala :
    10 tbsp Coconut (freshly grated)
    4 to 5 whole Dry Kashmiri Red Chillies
    1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
    ½ tsp Peppercorns
    ½ tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
    ½ tsp Fennel Seeds (saunf)
    ½ inch Cinnamon Sticks (broken into pieces)
    1 pod Cardamom
    2 to 3 nos Cloves
    2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
    1 medium size Onion (sliced)
    Other Ingredients :
    3 to 4 tbsp Vegetable Oil
    1 Bay Leaf
    1 inch piece Cinnamon Stick
    1 pod Cardamom
    2 to 3 Cloves
    1 large sized Onion (finely chopped)
    1 large Tomato (finely chopped)
    750 gms Chicken (curry cut pieces)
    3 medium sized Potatoes - cut into medium cubes....(OPTIONAL)...if you don't like potatoes avoid it.
    ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
    ½ tsp Salt (or as per taste)
    3 tbsp Coriander Leaves (finely chopped)
    1 litre Water (or as per the consistency required)
    3 tbsp Coriander Leaves (finely chopped) for garnishing
