    If you're looking to get a dual battery system in your vehicle or you're towing a caravan or camper trailer, chances are you have probably heard all about Anderson plugs.
    Put simply, an Anderson plug is a specialised plug we use to connect devices that use high-current circuits. Anderson plugs come in a range of sizes and colours, the most common being the grey and the red 50-amp ones.
    The Anderson plug is designed to handle a high, continuous load, so this makes it ideal to use in charging circuits.
    Watch the video for more information about what Anderson plugs are and why we recommend installing them as part of a dual battery system in your four-wheel drive, caravan, or camper trailer.

    Most plugs / sockets require two fittings a plug male and socket female.
    Remember an Anderson plug is also an Anderson socket. They are gender free...Meaning you simply invert the (same coloured) fitting to connect!
    Thanks for the videos I enjoyed watching them.

    Thanks for the great and easy to understand video. It certainly takes stress out of the equation for non-electrical people like me. My set-up - vehicle single battery - caravan lithium battery set-up + Solar. While driving an Anderson plug from vehicle to van for charging. I want to install on the vehicle an Anderson Plug for a portable air compressor. After watching your video, I have realised that it would be good to also have an Anderson plug for my fridge/ freezer if I was to take it with me on a vehicle only trip. With this Anderson setup can I have one cable (not van cable as that is separate) from vehicle battery to the vehicle tub to run both fridge/freezer and from time to time the compressor as well. Or do I either disconnect one for the other OR can I run a splitter (double adapter) at 50 amp in tub? Thank you

      Hi Greg, yes you can have an anderson plug in your car to power both the compressor & fridge. Usually when we wire up a car we would wire the compressor anderson plug from the start battery as it is running for 10min and draws a high current - we always recommend customers run their car when using the compressor. Then for a fridge we would wire this up to run of the auxiliary battery as it's a constant low draw. There is no reason you can't run both off the auxiliary battery from the same anderson plug.

      Hi Henry - Thanks for the comment. We have not attempted to connect Power Poles to SB50.
      We recommend using Genuine Anderson connectors.

    Great invention! I'm saddened to see that APC doesn't use such nice connectors to connect the batteries internally in their low-end UPS systems (some kind of kludge is used instead).

    Could you do a video on which Anderson connectors to use for which application? IE: After watching a video where winching can draw as much as 500+amps under a heavy load, how do you know which Anderson plug connector to use? A 350amp connector for winching vs a 50amp connector for a fridge or a 175amp connector for Jumping a car etc.? How do you know which Amp rated Anderson connector to use? Thanks for taking the time to show this.

      Size the appropriate wire size for the amperage of the devices that will used on that circuit. This is determined by amperage and wire run length. Charts are readily available online. Then size the correct Anderson plug for the wire size.

    Sounds like this would be critical if you have a higher amp dc to dc charger, as in a 60 amp dc to dc charger

    I already setup anderson plug for my boat trailer. Can I charge 12v battery box from anderson plug?

    • @accelerateoffgridtouring
      @accelerateoffgridtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on your charging set up. We would suggest getting in touch with your local auto electrician or 12 Volt specialist to find out if it is suitable.

    Great video, I tried to contact you through the e-mail link but says page no longer available. I have a question that I hope you can answer. I'm running a 6 foot 2 gauge line from my battery to my front bumper, for powering a 90 amp air compressor. Which anderson plug # should I use. Thanks

    • @accelerateoffgridtouring
      @accelerateoffgridtouring  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for the comment. If your compressor draws upwards of 90amp we would recommend a 120amp Anderson plug.

    • @accelerateoffgridtouring

      Yes!
      There are numerous different sizings & Amperage ratings. This allows you to use the right size plug for the job.

    Are they waterproof?

    • @accelerateoffgridtouring
      @accelerateoffgridtouring  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment!
      Anderson plugs on their own are not waterproof, Though they are designed to allow water etc to flow through them to avoid build up.
      You can purchase water resistant housings & covers though to help combat water ingress.
