I have a spinal injury which leaves me completely paralyzed from the neck down. I use Apple Voice Control (Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control) every second of every minute I use my Apple devices. I have found that Bear is the most compatible with Apple's Voice Control. Even better than Apple notes on macOS. Things I appreciate about bear: 1) tagging 2) mark down support 3) ability to convert a Bear note into a multitude of file types 4) theme support.I have a spinal injury which leaves me completely paralyzed from the neck down. The whiplash of people “leaving this app or that” is exhausting.
I could see someone leaving for Obsidian or text editors if they were worried about proprietary files but I heard nothing compelling in this review other than it can do things you don’t need it to do like htnl support.
Nobody needs to edit or view a note on their watch. You can create a voice memo or reminder and act on it later. This just seems like an excuse for content or a switch made out of boredom. Feature chasing will just lead to app switching in the future, a buyout by a bigger company, or bankruptcy.
People get things done based on their discipline not on markdown support. Kennedy, Kubrick, and Keats changed the world with pen and paper.
Normally I don’t comment on stuff like this but I did because I respect your content too much not to say anything.

"Nobody needs to edit or view a note on their watch. You can create a voice memo or reminder and act on it later. "
I like how you started complaining about specific use cases that most don't use, and then proceeded to claim that nobody needs a VERY BASIC feature like viewing notes quickly on your watch. LOL.
Talk about a completely misinformed rant.
LOL And trying to claim this uninformed rant is justified with a "I respect you and you're better than this thing I personally think is useless because I think that only MY opinion matters" justification was hilarious.

I love the concept of Bear - my biggest knock on it. The notes are incredibly hard to read. I've been dealing with a partially detached retina for several months - it's a slow healing process. But I downloaded and tried Bear and found the grey color scheme to be very difficult to read. It's a side effect of my eye injury. I know there are different themes / color schemes you can invoke and likely you can even build your own - but the few that I tried didn't seem to improve the readability.

My goal is to create a bi-directionally linked database of my recipes. I was a professional chef for 35 years. I have been using a combination of Apple Notes and Obsidian for the past year. I want to love Obsidian! But I don't enjoy being in the app. I am really resistant to it and I do not know why. I think part of it is I hate using plugins and I feel like I spend more time trying to change the way Obsidian looks versus time spent writing and creating my database. Apple notes is easy to use and fairly powerful now. It is a little too vanilla and my biggest gripes are picture sizing within notes and how poorly it interacts with file imbeds such as excel, apple numbers.

    • @qfnkdv4771
      @qfnkdv4771 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You’re in the right direction but you give up too early. I’m in the position like you before, so annoying why my vault is not look the way i want, why my database is not working the way i want. But after a lot of optimization, i manage to sort it all out. Now it’s perfect, and pretty sure i don’t need to make any major change for years to come. That’s the thing with Obsidian, you use it without plugin is very boring, and with plugin, you have to do the brain work to optimize it the way you want, and that’s took a lot of time and effort. Took me 6 frickin months to perfect my setup from kwowing nothing 😂

Bear has been my favorite notes app... but sadly, I had to divert from it to another due to the fact that it does not have a Web version! I am an Apple user for all personal devices but am a Windows/PC user for my work environment. A notes app being cross platform has become so necessary for my workflow that I've had to start using Upnote (which also has a nice interface and customization... no Web app but at least has a Windows download version that is easy to access even on enterprise devices so I can use it across ALL my devices!). I know Bear says on their support page that a Web version is coming. Bear... I'm waiting... patiently waiting... sigh.

Haven’t looked at Bear for a long while. In a way it strikes me as something of a Craft lite. i don’t say that as a put down but rather as a strength. I prefer Bear over Apple Notes and have for over two years, since I started using the subscription Pro version. The only Apple Notes aspect I really miss is the Smart Folder function. People say Tags are great, and they are; but Smart Folders have a unique ability that Tags cannot match, the ability to use multiple Tags, dates and more conditions to create a grouping to notes that are easy to tweak without having to edit the associated underlying Tags of the individual notes therein. It’s the sole feature I would like Bear to implement.
Bear’s feature set and export abilities as well as the Safari extension are amazing, all of which were why Bear was the App Ioved to from Evernote, though I keep wanting to like Apple Notes.
Another thing I find Bear is better at, is consistent note synching between my Mac, iCloud and my iPhone; Apple Notes has a continuing problem with that. Just thought to let readers now, in my experience.

It's surprising that someone teaching a course on AI hasn't figured out how to integrate Siri or ChatGPT into notes-especially since Apple Notes offers support for this!
Switching to something like Notion or a text editor might make sense for concerns about proprietary files, but this review didn’t offer anything compelling. It seems to focus on features most don’t need, like HTML support.
Editing or viewing notes on a watch? Unnecessary. A voice memo or reminder works just as well. This feels more like creating content or switching apps out of boredom. Chasing features often leads to app fatigue, acquisitions, or even failure.

I have a tech channel. So I understand the background of this. Free or budget things don’t have the most features. Or are rare and most things are freemium, so at that point might as well find the best paid class leader. Also, the audience is much larger for the paid or more expensive item. I’ve literally done almost identical, reviews for a $400 item and $100 item with the only difference being there are less features for the more budget items, and the views are nonexistent. And when you put the same amount of time in a video you’re going to want to do “sure things.” And that’s going to be whatever is paid or premium.
It’s already soul crushing thank you have a good idea, creating outline to shooting the B roll and recording. Taking several hours or days to record it. do the thumbnail, title, uploaded, and then you get nothing. That’s not including the money spent for the item or the devices you used to create the video.
Yes, we like creating content, but we also have to pay for it. And we literally see the data of what the audience likes. And it’s the paid applications or more expensive items. Almost every time.

Yeah but I saw custom tags that basically works as folders so I'm switching.

Bear is great. I use it alongside Apple Notes because I often find it faster to write in Markdown. Plus it's great for when I need to resize images within text or export into different formats. While Apple Notes is my "home base," I use Bear often and then include the links to Bear notes within Apple Notes. I've also found Apple Notes to get sluggish when working with really long notes; those long notes do better in Bear.

I prefer something like Evernote that can work across Windows as well and not just the Apple ecosystem.
