Here's the truth about FWD. On a racetrack, a similar powered FWD can put power down slightly more efficiently vs. other platforms due to shorter driveshafts. However, while the FWD will hang with other platforms in the beginning of the race, the front tires will wear faster and lap times will decrease quicker than other platforms. Where the FWD truly shines is on a touge-type road. A rough and dirty surface, with many tight corners. This is where the shorter wheelbase and lightweight compactness of the drivetrain provides superior maneuverability and stability. That should settle the fanboy comments :)
A mid engined, RWD car such as a Toyota MR2 can put power down just as efficiently as a FWD car, since there drivetrain is essencially the same, but at the middle of the car rather than the front :)
Niall Hemmings From my experiences the MR2 (SW20, not driven an AW11 yet) had a lot more understeer than I expected from stories of it's bad liftoff oversteer. It will only bite you if you're being obnoxious ie. playing eurobeat and sliding the tail out while yelling "DORIFTU KINGU." I think the majority of the claims of the SW20's nervousness are from people getting into nasty tank slappers when they tried to brake mid-corner during the start of a slide because they didn't know any better, but that applies to most midships so I can't really fault that characteristic too much. Once you start learning to control the weight there are few cars more rewarding to drive. It's kind of an "easy to learn, hard to master" type deal.

well the civic was made as an economy car that is lightweight for good fuel economy... when people realized that power+lightweight= fast it became history...and they are the cheapest cars to go fast with if you're on a budget

LFA started back in 2000 when Supra and Celica were produced and this cars was last breather of TRD for customers mostly due to competition of other perf cars in Australia. After this.....only hiring job....GT86 is is fully Subaru's work and Yaris they have now is private tuner company being hired by them....BMW does the """"""Supra"""""". Old true Toyota is long gone
Another note for the LM Nismo, along with its petrol and electric engines, it also had a flywheel system that spun in a reinforced housing at something near or over the speed of sound, which is where most of its power came from, 600ish I believe. Sadly that system also broke on race day along with the electric motors
Nathan Vonlanthen I personally don't like the brz. Its mainly the beard it has that turns me off. the FRS....well now 86 with it's fangs I like alot more. Interior wise the brz does win though, with it costing a bit more but being a more premium feeling everything.
You forgot the GM supercharged 3800 engine in fwd cars such as the Monte Carlo SS, Grand Prix GTP and Buick Regal GS. also, the LS4 V8 in Impala SS vehicles, Monte Carlo SS, Pontiac Grand Prix GXP and Buick LaCrosse Super.
I agree with the v8 versions but they never used the 3800 to the potential tuners get out of them. less than 300 hp even for the "supercharged" versions.
Forgot to mention the 9th gen Impala SS & some of the Northstar engined cars. & also, many V6-optioned generic US & Japanese sedans in North America are pushing around 300.

There is also a guy in Sweden with a 600+hp first generation 9-3 with a 2.3l 4cyl bored to 2.5l. Running high compression and low boost to make the power in that car. Since those were pretty notorious for having bad torque steer even at the 205-235hp mark, I can't even imagine how terrifying it is to drive without suspension upgrades and an LSD.

The gtrlm wasn't supposed to be fwd only, it had to run the way because the electric motors driving the rear had intermittent issues during it's 24 hours of LeMans run.
RS500 for me any day!! Even if the new focus awd was on offer i would take the RS500!!! Brilliant FWD car!! If not one of the best ever made!!! And that 5 banger is just better than a 4 banger!! IMO
Believe it or not, that car of Chris Rado's Scion tC Time Attack is actually all wheel drive. His car came stock with a FWD layout. Nonetheless, the Scion tC TA has a four cylinder, 1,200hp output. With a figure of that, he will have so much torque steer and the inability to turn corners, unless he has an open differential which would probably do little solving to overcome the force and difficulty of steering to that power figure. So, AWD is the layout for the car to become the quickest and fastest Time Attack car in the world. On the other side, the car's engine isn't made to last forever, since so much records of his engine catching fire, due to the fact that his engine has a high RPM redline. His car, basically, overheats due to the aggressive and vigorous operation of the engine combusting. You learn something new everyday, Mr VisioRacer.
