I remember a keynote from Kevin Mitnick about how he got a Nokia prototype he definitely should not have had just by making some calls and pretending to be someone he wasn't. Despite all our technological advances, people remain the most exploitable weakness. Grease some palms, appeal to someone's softer side, or just have a clipboard (or pizza box) and walk like you know where you're going, and you'd be amazed at the shit you can get away with and pull off. Hackers are the best option to get as secure IT infrastructure compared to a greenhorn that recently graduated and has gotten with a few certs. Best pentesters are those that has already been able to bypass securities. Even if they wouldn’t hire these people, those people could hack into their systems anyway if they wanted to (since they’ve proven to do so already), so hiring them won’t make a difference in that regard.
