This situation follows conversations I had with my own parent. We had the "when I'm 18 you can't tell me what to do" conversation, resulting in the recant "I will be in charge of you until you are 21." So I went out the next day and joined the US NAVY. Now I'm on the other side of the world. (during Vietnam)

My dads almost identical to troy and I dont think he ever understood that it takes more than busting a nut and providing the minimal living essentials to be somebody's father. It also hurt when he put after hours personal relationships with co-workers ahead of us and was completely different with them to the point where they adored him without knowing the real him that I and my mother knew.

New school don’t understand old school nuances. Denzel is absolutely in love with his offspring. Loves him dearly. But in his day and age he feels that if he expresses that he will create a soft and vulnerable child. So he teaches him the other side. The side of manliness and responsibility.
It’s like the old saying, do as I say not as I do. The kid is new gen so he don’t get all that. New gen is taught to be expressive. Clash of cultures. Denzel loves his son so much he will work 24hours to feed him. New gen son would rather have a hug than be fed tho. Clash of cultures.

We wasn't. He is a flawed character. He never liked or loved his son.
It was never shown to him...

Your father is always gonna love you it doesn’t mean he has to like you parents aren’t supposed to be their childrens friends

The point of the movie. Is that he didn't though.
      Never loved his son.
"When he says, what law says I got to like you"
He doesn't view the son of his wife as his. But as a burden, duty. He talks about the work his work in the profession manner too

@@DaveRedskyIf he didn’t love his son, then would he be doing everything he could as a provider? The problem is that people are ungrateful to what their parents do for them and therefore they truly don’t understand what it takes to do those “bare minimums”. Always worried about what you don’t have instead of being blessed with what you already have. This is a spoiled attitude. Don’t underestimate the “bare minimums” because some people don’t even have those…including an actual father

@@dimitrisbright9807 that's not love for him.
The whole point of the movie is he doesn't know how to show love, doesn't even know what love is
You say he loves his son, but he doesn't look at it as love, but responsibility. He said it himself. " you weren't part of the plan"
Cheats on his wife, a woman he supposedly loves. Not only that but ask his wife to take care of a child that he had with a women he cheated on with ...
Took his brother's house. Even though his brother is the one the bought it and owned it ....
He doesn't know how to love. He is a flawed person

@@DaveRedsky 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 My guy, this is the wrong genre to try to pull that card on. This isn’t some damn science fiction novel or some superhero comic where you have to know the source material. Somehow some way you’ve failed to notice this but this story in itself, is not that unique to a lot of poor and middle class families. But the reason why stories like these are great art is because everybody has their own opinions and observations based on their own life experiences. So please, spare me

Hi Cindy, we all react to things differently based on our own personal experiences. The start of the video was more of a light hearted exchange which I could relate to. And even with the seriousness of the topic there are elements of humor based on cultural experiences. I appreciate your assessment though. Have a nice day
