    It's pleasing to see a video about living in the Philippines posted by a Filipino couple. Please forgive me if I sound harsh - I really don't intend to - but my wife, who is a Filipino, and I worked our butts off overseas, away from our families for many years so we could live comfortable lives when we stopped working. We now live in the Philippines, having retired early, and own a number of properties from which we receive income, and have substantial savings. We don't need to budget. Having said that, we are not extravagant and probably spend about USD2000 per month, which includes schooling for the kids, day-to-day expenses and generally enjoying our lives. We live in Rizal, BTW.

    • @dazeltv1351
      @dazeltv1351  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You don’t sound harsh; we understand the sacrifices many Filipinos do working overseas in able to provide for their families. We have friends that currently work overseas and support their families in the Philippines. I served in the military for 20 years and also had to sacrifice a lot in order to have a comfortable life now. We budget because we live on a fixed income; my pension from the military. We also travel for one month out of the year; so we save for our yearly trip. We are currently on our 1 month trip of Luzon; next year we plan on visiting Negros Island in Visayas.

      @@dazeltv1351 Travel is the one thing we have missed during lock-down. I am widely travelled and since my wife and I got together we have been all around SE Asia and to Europe. She's caught the travel bug. When restrictions are fully lifted we intend taking an extended trip around the Philippines. As yet she has only visited Leyte and Biliran, and that was during mega- typhoon Yolanda! My brother-in-law has volunteered to drive not, I expect through any desire to travel, but to have some respite from his all-female - four daughters - family, some beer and some male company.

      @@joshuarizalforeman816 Quite the ego you display. The only person who benefited from either of your comments is yourself, IMHO. Snobbery and arrogance are your currency as you navigate this life, and you obviously spend both freely.

      @@JamesBondEsq. You seem to be confusing fair comment and honesty with egotism. My comment was supportive, non-critical and genuine. Your response appears to stem from jealousy and the simple desire to undermine others. I feel you somehow misunderstand the concepts of snobbery and arrogance. Being honest is not snobbery, nor is it indicative of arrogance. I was simply responding to a video. You, however, seem to use it as a means of expressing your own moral superiority and, sadly, failing to do so. However, continue with your unsolicited and unwarranted trolling. At the very least it gives me something with which I can amuse myself.

    The best talaga pag sa province lang nakatira. Mag-alaga ka lang baboy, manok, magtamin ng gulay o kaya mangga, bayabas saging okay buhay kana. Sa manila busy city kaya madaming kang stress sa katawan. Pero pag sosyal na tao wala talaga magastos.
    Kaya madaming foreigner gustong tumira sa Pilipinas. Lalo sa mga province like dipolog, dapitan, cagayan de oro pagadian. Surigao, davao city.

They do all the paperwork with Tricare for outpatient/inpatient care. In Aklan province where I live, I have to pay all medical costs upfront and then file a claim myself with Tricare in Singapore. Usually takes 6 months to get reimbursed. With Medical City Clark, you just pay the Tricare co-pay and they do the rest. I will find out for sure today and make a video of my visit.

Our monthly mortgage is around $200 a month; payable in 15 years. The same house now at Camella Homes Aklan is over $60k.

Aklan is in western Visayas of the Philippines. I was born in Manila, Philippines, then migrated to the U.S. as a teenager. The food prices have become totally out of control. The government need to work on this, their rice price scheme was not really effective. If we go into a conflict with China, i can see that people will be starving and everyone except the criminals go bankrupt. Food is often much more expensive then in my home country Germany, even rice.

      Food prices in our province of Aklan have stayed steady; not out of control. We pay about the same for seafood, chicken, vegetables, and fruits. It must be the area you live in. Do you live in a city? Rice is cheap in Aklan province because we produce so much; we have rice surpluses in our province. Even rental properties have stayed pretty much the same price in our province the past 10 years. I’m not worried about China; we have a good allies in America and western countries. Filipinos are resilient; we know how to adapt to any situation.

Forgot the onion crisis some time ago, just pushers who brought the kg price of onions to 500? Rice is cheapest quality around 45 here. Only good is my favorite Ginebra is still giving me a full drunk evening for 100 pesos.
      Rent prices? Don't get me started on this one please. I'm lucky having our own rent free house here on community land (as my wifes family lost everthing in a Thyphoon and got that housing for free).

      Just depends on how much you want to spend a month on rent. A one-bedroom apartment starts around $300 a month and up to $600 a month. Cost of living on everything at least 30% more. A good monthly budget would be around $1,200.

      The pandemic lessened our activities with our friends and family the past 2 years; very strict on gatherings the past 2 years in the Philippines. We did have a weekly cornhole (American game similar to throwing horseshoes) tournament with our expat friends we attended for a couple of months last year when we were allowed to play. The place where we played had food that you can order and pay; so players paid for their own food. My wife and I would always bring snacks from home. Since we are allowed now; we plan on hanging out with our college friends and our family at the beach more. Our province of Aklan is mostly coastline; we have so many beaches. We don’t have a separate budget for hanging out with friends and family because it’s always bring your own dish (potluck style) when we hangout on the beach. So easy in our province to stop at the wet market or roadside stall and get fresh seafood (really cheap) and grill it on the beach or river. We will do a video on that when we get back to our province. Most activities we do for entertainment doesn’t cost much money; so we don’t have a separate budget for entertainment. My wife and I like hiking, running, biking, swimming, and paddle boarding for entertainment. We also don’t have a movie theater in our province; so we just watch Netflix.
