@J G Soccer is a European game. Of course it is going to be one of the most popular sports if most of the countries in the world were colonised and invaded by these Europeans. The cultures and sports of these nations were destroyed and millions of people were killed to make way for the European culture and it’s game, not such a “beautiful game” now isn’t it. Australian Football was a game originally invented by our First Nation’s people which was called “Marn Grook”. Eventually the game would be noticed by the Europeans settlers and it would be shaped into the beautiful game that it is today. If soccer was really that powerful as you thought it was, it would’ve already been the number one sport long ago in the 1800’s-1900’s. However the Australian people didn’t want to follow the European game of football, why would they want to if the Australian game of football was more exciting, action packed and not overly repetitive (unlike soccer). Soccer theoretically should have been number 1 long ago, besides the nation who invaded and colonised the Great Southern Land invented the bloody game. But the power of Australian Football withstood the European game due to the uniqueness of the sport and the excitement that it attracted from the Australian public. If you ask me, I find it pretty embarrassing that the nation who invented soccer couldn’t make the sport the number one game in it’s own colony! Fast forward to today, Australian Football is at the best it has been in its lifetime in terms of popularity across Australia. Did you know that 1 in every 23 Australians are a member of an AFL club? Meanwhile, the A-League gets less supporters to its games than the NRL and the national soccer team has only played in one World Cup Semi Final in it’s 100 history. Soccer may be the number 1 participated sport in Australia, however that is because the other sports that are available to play in Australia are more physical and demanding. Rugby is a very physical sport where only the strongest and better body types can play, Australian Football is not as physical but requires more stamina and skill which can be tough for new players who haven’t played the sport as a kid/teenager. I remember hearing that people thought that soccer was going to be the number one sport in the 80’s. That never happened. You’re claiming that soccer is going to be number one in 2050? Have a look at your sport’s history in Australia bud. The national team is an embarrassment, the A-League lacks fans, the sport is just too simple and boring compared to AFL. Don’t try persuade me that the Socceroos will do better in the future, they won’t. Academies and “professional” regional soccer clubs in Australia cost way too bloody much anyways. The talent pool is only limited to the rich. Most of the most famous soccer players came from slums, poor neighbourhoods or some average neighbourhood. The only players you see coming from rich households are the ones who are the sons of famous soccer players. Australia’s real soccer talent is being blocked from being allowed to show off their skills to the nation’s top teams and selectors because of their socioeconomic status. Why should people try to become soccer players if it’s too bloody expensive to even try to become one? It would be much cheaper to become an AFL player or an Olympian. Soccer doesn’t deserve to be Australia’s number one sport and it never will. Australian Football has a proud history in Australia that soccer can’t compare to. It’s a rich man’s sport in Australia and if you’re not willing to pay the big bucks just to have a shot, you’ll never make it anywhere in soccer in Australia. To answer your spam, soccer will never become number 1 in Australia. It simply doesn’t deserve to. As a Cats fan that was the perfect grand final. So many getting involved in the scoring, Selwood, De Koning, Parfitt, Close, Stengle. Heart break for Holmes who was a big reason for Geelong's success this year. Well done Cats!
That's was the Complete game all over the Park,The best I've seen since Richmond were unstoppable 4 or so years ago, Always been a Super club the Cat's!
Congratulations to the Geelong footy club, they have played out an incredible season not only this year but for countless of other years but could not quite get the result home a number of times. However, this season the cats were able to provide their best footy throughout the whole season this year and proven that they were the best side this year. Congratulations on Joel Selwood for an exceptional career with playing off in his 40th AFL final and for his leadership on and off the ground. (Coming from a Richmond fan)

What's there to say about Geelong? Everything has been said. Elite year, miles ahead of the rest. GF performance was clinical. Reward for all the work they've put on. Incredible coach and coaching staff. Adjusted their game style, recruited well, see value in players that are unwanted, have pride in having older players, impeccable culture, humble club. One of the oldest lists, been told "too old, too slow", and yet smashed a younger side by 81, one of the biggest GF margins in AFL history. There are endless things you can say about the club.
I went to Australia in 2007 and I am a geelong fan ever since and I live in Toronto now but I absolutely love geelong football club and I always will so may years of heartbreak we finally win one we should have won 2-3 more flags in the last 16 years
Why are Geelong supporters so greedy? They have been spoiled by so much success they never seem satisfied. Having said that, they thoroughly deserved this premiership.
@@arnolddavies6734 we are 'greedy' because considering how many times we have made finals, we haven't won too many, although on that note 4 is still a significant amount in that time span
Most deserved premiership in the 21 century for how they have been up near the top without getting early draft Pick's. Best club of the 21 century. Didn't say teams. But they are the best club of 21 century IMO. Tiger supporter.
3 years in a row where 1 club has absolutely outshined the rest coming into finals, Richmond 2020, Demons last year and this time Geelong. Props to the Swans for making it but you just feel a Pies Cats GF would have been far more entertaining.
feel like pies wouldve been destroyed as well, swans and pies play a similar pressure brand of footy and cats locked that corridor today something pies and swans like to use, and swans were trying to play like collingwood as well they kept trying that slingshot through the middle but every single time we did we overhandballed, the pressure through there was enormous, who knows what wouldve happened if another team played them but the way the cats played it probably wouldnt of mattered tbh
As a Swans Supporter from the U.S., it really hurt seeing them get smacked, but they’re still a mostly young side. Going from 16th to the Grand Final in the process of two years is not an easy accomplishment. Regardless though, I’m hoping the Swans use this game as motivation to continue their improvement. The potential is still through the roof. In regards to the Cats, kudos to you Mates. You truly payed your hearts out. Regardless, I’m looking forward to 2023. The only way is up for the Swans!!
Truly played your hearts out is not an understatement. They didn't really play well at all and even the coach and the players admitted that. Always next year though, so looking forward to that
@@ludens3401 yeah, I wasn’t saying that we played well at all. We just absolutely got smacked all match. Reid’s injury in the Prelim really screwed us up. Just hoping everything gets retooled with in the off-season.
Man… that one really hurt. After all the hard work during the season to get there and get smacked like a bunch of school kids against adults. I feel the coaching staff didn’t do their homework right. Under estimated Geelong. When you keep doing the same thing… nothing changes. Geelong deserved it, they did their homework and shut down the swans. Swans were too one dimensional.
So take aways from this after a while. 1) danger was an absolute animal after the footy. Just wanted it more then about anyone. 2) sel’s checkside still puts a tear in the eye. 3) thank god they got the playing style right and went from trying to play perfect kick mark to get it in and quick. Magnificent to watch
Kudos to the Swans for coming so far since 2020 season. But Geelong was on another level! Dangerfield really shining there with the assists, man it’s so good to see him get the flag! Go Cats!

As an American AFL fan I feel very proud that the Cats won it all, your fans deserved to win one, and hopefully you can do it again in 2023! As for the Swans, I have your respect for them, they had a fun season, but sadly they got blown out in the final, hopefully they will have a better season next year!
Well done boys, such an amazing year capped off by this impressive Grand Final appearance. I hope Joel goes around for another season, but if not, mate it's been a privilege to watch you since 2007. CARN GEELONG!

I've been a Swans fan ever since I discovered footy, and my Grandpa's always been a Geelong supporter. While I'm disappointed with the result, I'm glad he got to see his team win. He might not see it happen many more times anyway.

Sometimes you just have to appreciate a great team, rather than a great game. Geelong were absolutely humming and firing on all cylinders. An amazing performance
Let's go back-to-back boys. Selwood and Danger can lead this unbelievable squad around again. Just imagine 4-time premiership Cats hero becomes 5-time premiership LEGEND. Selwood, you had 12 disposals in the first Q, highly contested. Let's go again brotha - Well Done CATS! Most deserved.
I agree. One more year for the GOAT Selwood. Get him to groom the incoming captain in his final year as he takes a 5th premiership medal and a norm smith as he hands the captaincy over after another GF win. Ok I’ll stop dreaming now
Cheers From Miami (again) This was a blowout, Selwood And Smith Were balling the f**k out. Geelong bossed this match wire to wire. Thanks again for introducing me to this wicked game Aussies Rule, and Aussie Rules. ✌🏾
they say youve gotta lose one to win one. weve lost 3 (under horse). still had a fantastic year this year. keep your heads up! 2023 is closer than we think and will be our premiership to lose! carn the bloods!
Well done to Geelong for winning in 2022 you can see the emotion on Hawkins and selwoods faces at the end of the game. Everyone seemed to have the cats drop off put they dominated the year like the dees did in 2021 and richmond in 2019

I think in Selwoods career, from 2007 to 2022 Geelong have been the best side. They have 4 flags, equal with Hawthorn in that time but they have been in more grand finals, more finals. The have been solid, consistent contenders for 15 years straight. I don't think any club can beat that and Selwood has been there the whole time. I also reckon Geelong have had the most intergenerational star players, all time greats, in that time. This helps!
Good to see de koning score his first ever afl goal being a defender and the same for mccartin kicking his first ever goal playing for the swans also being a defender and both out scoring buddy and Sam reid scoring wise
This GF reminded me alot of the 2014 GF when the Swans also got demolished by Hawthorn at the time. It played out in a somewhat similar fashion. We have witnessed some spectacular close fought GF’s of recent years but lately I feel alot of them have been so heavily one-sided that for the neutral fan it creates a dour contest, it feels like some teams mentally get phased by the occasion, they panic & are in shock before the bounce of the ball & they absolutely get trumped by the opposition. This years GF, last years GF, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2014, and not to forget 2007 have been complete bloodbaths. Let’s hope the following years create more memorable GF expreriences.
It goes to show it's not always a good idea to put your eggs in one basket. I wasn't totally convince getting Buddy for 10 years was a good idea. 10 years, 0 premiership. 10 million wasted when they should have kept that core group of players that convincingly won the flag in 2012.
@@theprinceoftides6836 First person to say it. I agree. Was doubtful of acquiring buddy as well - especially after my hawthorn mate said he's a bad omen. Boy was he right! 😂🤦🏻♂ I had a horrible feeling he'd suck the honesty out of the team... and would you look at that.
Conratulations @Geelong the Cats! You are reigning Champs! Keep up the great work and God bless you beloved players and brothers. God richly bless you all and your families! ❤❤
Well… When you have a first quarter like Geelong had, you can pretty much kiss the game goodbye, no ifs ands or buts! Congrats to the cats from Canada!!
This reminds me of the end to our 2017 season. We had a remarkable season and were in as good form as you could possibly want for a grand final only to arrive there on the day and look completely gassed.
Was a bit disappointed on how polarising the result was given how close the entire top 8 was throughout the season, I remember 1st and 9th only being 8 points apart on the ladder at one point, one of the best seasons I've seen in a while. Still though, I'm a Geelong supporter so I can't say I'm shattered by the result, glad we finally got one after being in the top flight consistently.

Eerily similar to 2019, Late emotion captains goals (Cotchin/Selwood), Players getting their first goal (Pickett/De Koning), only one player from the losing team gets a pass mark (Taranto/Warner), Even the fact that Collingwood, who lost the prelim the week before, would have been a better match up
Geelong was unstoppable in the 2nd half of the season, They just found a next gear they never knew of and flew high to victory! Congrats Geelong fck yes well deserved!

casual afl fan here and dedicated punter can someone explain why the games in the finals were blowouts? like being finals i thought games would of been closer idk
Sorry I'm late, but I'm sick at the moment, so here I am, finally. What a smashing! I thought this was going to be a close one, but Geelong were too classy for Sydney. Hungrier, older list, but not slower, the Cats were on top after the first goal was kicked and did not look back since. Three of the previous four Grand Finals have ended in smashings (Richmond won by 89 in 2019, Melbourne won by 74 in 2021 despite even trailing by as much as 19 in the third quarter and now Geelong won by 81 in 2022). This was the best ending for Cats fans and players where in contrast to Sydney, their dream quickly disintegrated into their worst nightmare. Geelong didn't risk Max Holmes, but the Swans took a gamble on Sam Reid and... well, look what happened. Sydney probably should've used Tom McDonald. Tom Papley was laughing the day before the big dance but after the match ended, his team's performance was a joke. If Collingwood had beaten Sydney in the Preliminary Final rematch (since they lost to the Swans in 2012), how much of a fight would the Magpies have put up? Would the result have changed? I know Pies fans are fuming right now. Isaac Smith has signed on for Geelong after winning the Premiership and Lance Franklin signed on for Sydney at the start of Grand Final week. Should Buddy have waited until afterwards? His performance was atrocious, not even a goal scored on the big day. This is Geelong's first Premiership in eleven years and Sydney's third Grand Final loss in a nine-year span. Geelong players and fans can celebrate now, but don't party too hard, you don't want to suffer a Premiership hangover like Hawthorn did in 2009, Bulldogs in 2016 and Richmond in 2021. Sydney cancelled their live events in the wake of their Grand Final hell, just like they did in... was it 2014 or 2016?
"Too old, Too slow, Too good" said one spectator's banner in reply to a newspaper headline. This match proves that anticipation (of where the ball is going to be) is the key skill. Time warp: Two of Carlton's 1980s premiership stars looked like they were slow motion replays: Robbert Klomp & Jon Dorotich. The moral: Start going early, and you'll arrive at the ball before the fast runners.
when i used to umpire the AFL metro teams we had a team that would win 16 out of 18 games a season for 5 years they made it to the Grand Final and lost, they sacked the coach after the 5th loss and made it to the GF with the new coach in his 1st year and won, , its a dream i keep having about the afl too
I'm curious: In the AFL, is a goal worth six points and then the extra point one like in the NFL? And then, one point is scored during the match but I don't know how it's done. Sorry if I'm confused. 😅
I’m heartbroken…
Congrats Geelong, after so many years of being so close, you really did deserve it
Just wish it wasn’t my team that got flogged
Feel sorry for ya🐈🐈

What's there to say about Geelong? Everything has been said. Elite year, miles ahead of the rest. GF performance was clinical. Reward for all the work they've put on. Incredible coach and coaching staff. Adjusted their game style, recruited well, see value in players that are unwanted, have pride in having older players, impeccable culture, humble club. One of the oldest lists, been told "too old, too slow", and yet smashed a younger side by 81, one of the biggest GF margins in AFL history. There are endless things you can say about the club.

3 years in a row where 1 club has absolutely outshined the rest coming into finals, Richmond 2020, Demons last year and this time Geelong. Props to the Swans for making it but you just feel a Pies Cats GF would have been far more entertaining.
4th year in a row, Richmond obliterated GWS in 2019.
feel like pies wouldve been destroyed as well, swans and pies play a similar pressure brand of footy and cats locked that corridor today something pies and swans like to use, and swans were trying to play like collingwood as well they kept trying that slingshot through the middle but every single time we did we overhandballed, the pressure through there was enormous, who knows what wouldve happened if another team played them but the way the cats played it probably wouldnt of mattered tbh
Geelongs tackling pressure was 100 percent from start to finish. They would have beaten everyone easily because they were just going to win.

Man… that one really hurt. After all the hard work during the season to get there and get smacked like a bunch of school kids against adults. I feel the coaching staff didn’t do their homework right.
@J G ur mad that afl is the sport of australia. It's still far more popular then soccer here.
Well done Geelong. It is quickly becoming very apparent to everyone now that we truly are the greatest team of all.
Stengal is such an underrated player, one of the best small forwards I reccon
All the best small forwards come from richmond. Bolton, stengle, daniel rioli, jack higgins, dan bulter
Stengle is amazing but he is not underrated

I've been a Swans fan ever since I discovered footy, and my Grandpa's always been a Geelong supporter. While I'm disappointed with the result, I'm glad he got to see his team win. He might not see it happen many more times anyway.
As a Geelong fan since 2010 I love to re watch them in their glory ❤
A awesome match by the Cats.
My 7 year old granddaughter is a Cats supporter and loved watching the highlights

Sometimes you just have to appreciate a great team, rather than a great game. Geelong were absolutely humming and firing on all cylinders. An amazing performance
Absolutely hammered.

This helps!
Death. Taxes. Sydney showing up every round except for grand finals
As an American this is the first time I have ever heard of this sport but its absolutely memorizing to watch.
U should watch the Australian NRL final this week. Kick off 7:30pm Sunday AEST time.
@@dickass4915 I just watched this sport for the first time and I have no clue what is happening 😂😂😂
Good to see de koning score his first ever afl goal being a defender and the same for mccartin kicking his first ever goal playing for the swans also being a defender and both out scoring buddy and Sam reid scoring wise
That grand final hurt. It was a tough pill to swallow that Geelong was just better than us in every department
i watch this when im sad x
2021 was actually pretty good, 74 point margin does not do the contest nearly enough justice
Didn't realise how uninspiring BTs commentary was
Feel bad for Sydney and Longmire, lost 14, 16 and 22. Hopfully they get their glory sooner than later
It goes to show it's not always a good idea to put your eggs in one basket. I wasn't totally convince getting Buddy for 10 years was a good idea. 10 years, 0 premiership. 10 million wasted when they should have kept that core group of players that convincingly won the flag in 2012.

Still though, I'm a Geelong supporter so I can't say I'm shattered by the result, glad we finally got one after being in the top flight consistently.
Unfortunately this could be the very last grand final in the traditional day time slot - finishing in the afternoon rather than night.
I never really liked The Geelong Theme Song, but this Year, they have proved that they ARE "The Greatest Team Of All."
@J G Soccer: beloved by lady boys the world over.
Soccer is the greatest and most important sport on Planet Earth with more than 4 Billion fans and massively popuar in more than 250 nations including dependencies. AFL is only relevant in 4 Australian states. Always will remain stagnant and a minor sport in QLD, NSW and ACT. Soccer will be the number 1 sport in Australia by 2050 iuvvu

The Biggest Flogs I’ve Ever Seen In My Lifetime
Eerily similar to 2019, Late emotion captains goals (Cotchin/Selwood), Players getting their first goal (Pickett/De Koning), only one player from the losing team gets a pass mark (Taranto/Warner), Even the fact that Collingwood, who lost the prelim the week before, would have been a better match up
Don't tell me we get this shi again after a great afl season 💀
You might wanna sit down for this one…
We did 💀
No Rules Football. Well done.
The way the everyone was carrying on with a Selwood was like it was his last game?
Can't get over it
I've been critical of Danger at the cats but his GF game was superb. Not winning the norm was a crime.
Geelong was unstoppable in the 2nd half of the season,
They just found a next gear they never knew of and flew high to victory!
Congrats Geelong fck yes well deserved!

All we want is a close Grand Final 😔
Solution get Collingwood in the grand final and to keep everyone entertained make sure Collingwood loses by a 1pt margin.
casual afl fan here and dedicated punter can someone explain why the games in the finals were blowouts? like being finals i thought games would of been closer idk
Cats have the experience while the swans are mostly a young side, Sydney can improve next year but the hunger will need to be back
when i used to umpire the AFL metro teams we had a team that would win 16 out of 18 games a season for 5 years they made it to the Grand Final and lost, they sacked the coach after the 5th loss and made it to the GF with the new coach in his 1st year and won, , its a dream i keep having about the afl too
I'm curious:
In the AFL, is a goal worth six points and then the extra point one like in the NFL?
And then, one point is scored during the match but I don't know how it's done.
Sorry if I'm confused. 😅
Happy for the Cats, great win. Also happy that flog Papley didn't get a flag.
Let's face it, absolutely NOBODY was beating Geelong here.
