I know they’re different sports, but this cats team reminds me of the 2014 spurs in the nba. An older group of guys who had been so close in the last few seasons, playing a really unselfish, team first style of footy that was great to watch.
This cats side reminded me of the Blues 95 side, an ageing group that just had to get the job done, great season cats enjoy!!!
Cats have had an ageing list since 2007, and they've been, by far, the best performing team from then to 2022. They barely missed the finals in 2015. Have been in contention every other year. No other team can claim anything close to the Cat's record since 2007.
Re: Grand Final at night - as someone living in the US, I'm glad the game was during the day because I was able to stay up to watch it instead of having to get up at 5 or 6am.

I really hope Selwood goes again. No reason why not he was instrumental in yesterdays game. Still highly competitive. Does NOT need to finish early just to ensure he’s on a high… imagine if they go back to back? Amazing skill, should continue.
Selwood should play one more season. Given what the Cats have done this year, I cannot think of any reason why they are not capable of going back to back. That would be the ideal time for Selwood to call it quits.
They’ll repeat if the rest of the teams aren’t careful. I’m not a cats fan but that was some good footy and well deserved
It's tough to go back to back. Look at the hype that surrounded Melbourne at the start of the year with an expected unbeaten season and GF. Geelong will probably have that hype next year. You're only as good as your last game.

Selwood is the GOAT captain, the only thing that kept him out of that conversation was not winning a flag as the captain, but he has it now.
At the end they should have a rapidly done winning team game highlights reel to show on a big screen with players reacting and crowd to celebrate together. That would be a fantastic immediate celebration, great to get their reaction and memories to enjoy with the crowd. I would love that

Cats were so on this day. It had everything. A 3-times Hawks Premiership player in Issac Smith winning the Norm Smith with the old enemy. Dangerfield winning his first premiership and for me BOG. The absurdity of the Parfitt and De Koning goals. Tyson Stengle’s redemption and 4 class goals which probably didn’t get the attention they deserved. Cameron cashing in on the 3 first round draft picks it cost to get him. Blicavs being a match up nightmare. Selwood’s fairy tale goal finish. And the staggering dignity of Dane Rampe who despite being on the end of an absolute thrashing oozed class and recognised Selwood as a giant of the game and knowing as we all did that it was his last.
The quality of football is always better during the day! Leave it a day game!

Sydney were awful no doubt about it, and as a cats fan I loved seeing my team win big. But the language that this panel is using to describe the efforts of some Sydney players is concerning. These are players who were in the second best team of the year. Yes no doubt they had a poor grand final, for some players possibly the worst of their career.
But this type of extreme language is why I have stayed away from this show for ages now. Lets not forget Kane Cornes was part of the biggest ever grand final loss! Matthew Lloyd was a part of a team that choked in '99 and then got belted in '01. This type of extreme crap doesn't add anything to the analysis.

The swans were horrid. Didn't fire a shot and there was no physicality from them. As a hawks supporter i backed the cats for the flag and also had $20 on Izzy @ $51 for norm smith and what a game he played. Was wrapped to see him get the medal. Big time player.

We beat Collingwood twice during the year.
Collingwood looked out on its feet against Sydney the previous week.
The main reason Collingwood got as high as they did was winning a lot of close games AKA LUCK! You got lucky. They finished 17th the previous year. So things (like the umpiring) fell your way, and their luck ran out in the Preliminary Final.
Geelong would have smashed whoever we played on Saturday.

Brother our home ground is GMHBA Stadium, I’m a cats fan, the ground wasn’t the issue, they got scared and didn’t perform and got done.

AFL on SCG is like watching rugby.. sorry bro.. its my take on it.. they should make ground bigger..
Buddy Franklin gets another contract and then only gets 1 point in the 2022 grand final, maybe next time wait until after the grand final before any contracts are signed. Last time geelong won on an even year was 1952, lets hope they can have consecutively wins.

The last time that this occurred was the only time that Geelong won back to back premierships. I am already sensing that the same thing could be about to occur.
Jack Riewoldt got another season and he kicked zero goals in the GF this year - should Richmond have waited until after the GF too? What a stupid muppet comment, Buddy kicked 52 goals this year and had a big influence in them finishing where they did on the ladder and actually making the GF. Not much anyone can do in the forward line when the ball isn’t coming your way. The loss wasn’t down to Buddy, the midfield got absolutely belted.

Geelong have a fantastic W/L ratio during the home and away season (70+%), when they play lots of games at Kardinya Park, but have been pretty terrible at winning finals when they have to play away (30ish %). That's what he's referencing here.

5 of their last 7 games at the cricket pitch that is Kardinia Park. A home ground advantage like other. Traveled 3 times in the last 12 weeks of the season. Name one single non Victorian team that gets that kind of run into finals. Only Victorian team that gets a true home ground. Joke of a comp. At least in the premier league every team has a true home ground.

The fact that Geelong still get to play on their under 10’s training ground is an enormous advantage no other team gets. Hence their 90+ percent win rate over 15 years!
