I remember watching this at the age of five. My father was cussing at the tv. I didn’t know exactly what being gay was, but I knew that deep down my father was subconsciously cussing me. I’ve been searching for this programme for a long time. As a gay man watching this in the context of the early 70’s the prejudice of heterosexuals was questioning the gay life style by comparison of their own gender norms and values. No wonder my father cussed as it was way to much information for him to process

I hope the newlyweds had a wonderful life together or maybe after nearly 50 years since this was made still living their lives as one.

Having come out in the early '70s, I found this rather moving to watch. What a wonderful, hopeful, beautiful time that was, when gays & lesbians took real risks & made genuine progress.

Whicker's language on non-British, women, race and sexuality was so backward reflecting him or his era. But people Whicker meets are fantastic throughout the many series.

pretty sure it's reflecting the era and not him personally. don't forget only few years ago homosexuality was literally illegal and criminal in the UK

Without question, when we are judged by people 50 years in the future, we will all come out looking rather silly, shortsighted and ignorant in more ways than one.

What most homosexuals don't realize is that monogamy is sensible for health reasons. Especially as their communities are close. That priest is right on a significant number in the clergy being homosexual.

Science has shown that lesbians have the lowest rates of sexually transmitted diseases and infections, In fact they are on trend to start outliving heterosexual couples, science has also proven that keeping your sexual partners to as few as possible is a great advantage in preventing STI’s or STD’s. Science has also demonstrated that keeping your biased opinions to yourself helps you live longer.

This is ridiculous as the arrangement had no legal standing. Homosexual acts in all likelihood attracted a criminal penalty.

Yes I agree but it’s the context of gay liberation at the time. The idea that two men can love each other and commit. This was extremely challenging at the time.

We have to remember this is also told, shown through the eyes of the British media so I can’t help but wonder how much was played up for the camera.
