Such a lovely man... Parky.... We loved him.....Talented. Charming,
Witty , outrageous flirt. ... ..interviewing was his game - his skill -
Listening.... allowing the guest to tell their story ...captivating.
The viewer... thats how he got the best guests...
... thanx Parky for so many years you gave us 💚

Whicker was brilliant but, in my view, so was Parky- For me has never been another TV interviewer better than him. He did some great shows

Michael Parkinson is a REAL 'national treasure' (those two words so often bandied about & which so rarely fit). I am an American and fell for his show and his style the first time I saw them. Wish we had people half as good on our own 'chat' shows. Stephen Colbert approaches, but is mainly a comedian. Anyway, you must miss him being a regular staple on the tube... Wish him a joyous retirement.

Correct. and you can buy his ''Best Of'' interviews on DVD. Truly great stuff, but highlights the gulf between then--and now.

Mr Alan Whicker was such a reassuring presence in his interviews and always impeccably turned out. Oozed respectful. I never tire of listening to him and am so grateful that much remains of his work. His interview with the fellow who invented "Cats Eyes" the ubiquitous road safety aid is well worth catching. What a contrast to today's staccato interrogators. ❤️❤️👌💐

Alan Whicker was a true British gentleman and a great reporter. he created a fabulous series of documentaries that still stand today. It is not so well known that he took the world famous photo of Mussolini after he was killed, hanging from a lamp post. we will never see his like again.

Wicker loved people. People fascinated him. He was genuinely interested in the whys and the wherefors of what people did and stood for. Great man. His voice was very hypnotic and easy to listen to. Great voice.

    Parky died the other day.
Here in this video he was frail.
His speech was slurred, even more so, than his normal Yorkshire brogue. (a broad gentle-sounding dialectal accent, 👉 🇬🇧 🇮🇪)
His wife warned him about his heavy drinking, at the peak of his popularity.
It probably extended his life by 20 years.
    RIP Mr. Parkinson.
    Cheers mate 🇬🇧

I met him in Argos once, he was picking up an air fryer and helped me carry my purchase (jumbo pack of hairdryers) to the car. He jested "Imagine if they got our orders mixed up- they sound similar but you wouldn't want to air fry your hair!" I laughed as I don't have any hair (I was picking them up for purposes I can't really get into due to an ongoing legal issue) and then he laughed and said "I might be able to fry my spuds with a hair dryer though!" Clearly he wouldn't be able to, he was just making polite conversation because he had time to kill before his bus arrived and I didn't want to offer him a lift because I had to move the passenger seat quite far forward to fit in all the hairdryers (they couldn't go in the boot because something else was in the boot which I also can't disclose due to the issues mentioned above)

@@MrDaiseymay My point is Alan Whicker class act. He had that je ne sais quoi the people he interviewed and a kind manner Parky was that chip on his shoulder and very argumentative Ali was an example. Let the guests talk not give your opinion. Whicker also had a partner who did the research. The salient point is I would have Whicker to interview my clients rather than Parky. Thank you sir
