Dude, no joke. I saw your video on making med school manageable in 2012 and it was SO efficient that I said to myself... "This guy is going into neuro. It's a no brainer" ;)
congratulations on your matching... I have been watching you since I entered medical college and you have been a great help.. I am so interested in neurology it is fun and challenging but when I asked around I was shocked that there was the same answer ( the patient’s outcome is poor..). they mean that most of cases are stroke patientsand you can not do a big change.. this thing is holding me back. what's your opinion about it and what should I do? thank you
Hi. I' m following you since 2014. I´m from Mexico and i´m in fourth year. I'll chose a specialty in two years but i have many conflicts with it. The main is that I love Cardiology, but here in Mexico there are a lot of cardiologists. I´ve been meeting some that are great but they fight again find good oportunities of work. I really take this into account because I want a good quality of life and i´m concerned about spend many years studying and don't getting the appropiate pay. I really like your videoblogs. Congratulations!
Many congratulations on your matching MashAllah After all your hard work and all the valuable advice you shared with us on here over the years, this is both your reward and encouragement for us as it is further confirmation that the advice you shared genuinely works. Wish you all the best with neurology.
Congratulations on the match!! I hope you continue to make these great videos. I am just getting ready to take step 1 right now and your insights have been much appreciated
My problem is i think I love surgery. I want to go for it.. but i want to enjoy life also... I want to see places..travel..be with family...i don't want to be with patients all the time
Isn't family a big factor in choosing a specialty? Whether you have a family or want a family, shouldn't you take into account the time you reserve for your family when choosing a specialty?
i am regretting the day i got accepted in med school . i started to have addiction problems , people are objects , i work for no goal, i am lazy . my friends are 4 walls , ground and a roof . i cannot read one line from a book without yawning . help me or kill me.
Subhan Allah, Same here !! But i have started planning to be a entrepreneur or anything but medical field and now i am satisfied because i know medicine has become a bath to do other things that i love I have started my third year in med school! You may have to think of it as a temporary period of your life just like i did ^_^
I like weekends off and no calls with good pay. That is what my heart is telling me. But I also found IM interesting during clerkship. I don't know the set up is for an IM attending in the US but they rank as one of the unhappiest docs due to long working hours. Is this true?
If IM does not satisfy at least 2 out of 3 conditions I have then maybe you're right I should follow my heart then maybe just go for Psych or even Derm
This guy really make sense.. Thank you for providing us excellent tips as always! PS: If you liked surgery but love neurology, why won't you go for a neurosurgeon? XD
Hello Doc,I started watching your videos right before I joined Med school in 2014. I'm watching this video now and I realize how long its been. I'm the kind of guy that applied for multiple specialties because I had no idea what I wanted and I got matched for Anesthesiology. Would love to hear from you about the subject and hopefully give me some more tips. :D
in terms of picking where to apply for residency and how to choose, what are the criteria that you used other than geographical location. Its almost impossible to through all the places you apply to. Thanks for any help!
My question is that I really like all parts of medicine. Because of that, I am really thinking about radiology but I don't want to sit in a room all day and just read scans. Can you please tell me what specialty covers a wide variety of things and that is intellectual stimulating? I am also thinking about anesthesiology because I heard they see many different kinds of patients. Also, can you please tell me about critical care and the different specialties that come with critical care? thanks very much for helping out!
+Jeet Choudhury Sounds like you would be great for internal medicine. You treat a wide range of pathologies and it's very stimulating. It's the bread and butter of medicine. Another benefit of internal medicine is that you can fellowship into a broad range of subspecialities such as critical care or cardiology.
Thank you so much for the advice. I have been thinking about internal medicine a lot, but lately I have been wondering about anesthesiology. One of my favorite courses I took in college was pharmacology, so I was wondering if you can tell me a little bit about the difference between anesthesiology and critical care vs pulmonology and critical care? Also, is it possible to get a double specialty in anesthesiology and internal medicine? and maybe after that to also subspecialty in critical care?
I loved surgery as a student,I was pressured by the family to do gynea but then I took the mid way path and joined anesthesia but now after 1& half year of training in it I’m not happy. What should I do now?
Hello! going to start by saying I really enjoy your videos. Was wondering if its possible to change specialties later in your career as a physician? I am doing my first year of undergrad as a 22 y/o ( about 4 years after high school wish me luck) I ask this because I think I would enjoy the high speed of emergency medicine, but I feel if I got to see inside an OR I would maybe consider surgery. Just a thought, cheers
Helo Buddy , I m also kinda in the critical phase of my life , where i thought medicine was quite an interesting subject to deal with , but one thing that bothers me too bro is the loads of burden that you get with , the headache , i done rotations and its highly daunting , well , To cut it short , i been thinking to do radiology coz my uncle is Ap of it , as it is much stress free but sometimes i think it must be reeli boring to sit around whole day in room and not help a needy personally, which i love doing , M a funloving guy, keep much interest in showbiz . And one thing to ad bro most importantly , i had total thyroidectomy (radical neck dissection ) for papillary ca thyroid in dec '2011 , i did cardio rotations, kinda love it too , LOVED dealing the MI's . i got family full of doctors my brother and sis in law too, now my cuz too being 1 advices as radiology wud be best for me ! As it is stress free , well , what will be ur advice bro ?
Bro I was diagnosed with papillar ca thyroid during my final year of med school 2011,dec, followed by immediate surgery after two months i think, i experienced a very hard time coping up with it followd by FNAC'S , BIOPSIES, MAJOR SURGERY FROM UK, and after 2 years had another biopsy with 2 prev ablations (long stressfull and complicative tx as it cud get, well , i had my interests into being some form of creative artist, director and was kinda fond of showbiz , got stuck into med school , my family tree is full of doctors including my brother ,general surgeon and his wife (gynaecologist) , my first choice was radiology , as i def wish to have a family life besides have a less stressful work ?? what could be the best medical speciality that could be less stressful and gave you a good quality + FAMILY LIFE ??!!!!!!!
Hi I have question I am not good in math and science but I do feel tht I am for medical since I did medical assistant to get job I loved it I even work as a it in medical office but I want to do someth better so I did cna which I am trying to get certified but I also want to do someth so there I am confused abt it wht to do since I am in college
hey doc I'm an international med student studying in Czech rep. Duration of med school is 6 years. However, I will finish in 8-9 years. Does this matter when getting residency? Will I get asked about it? And will they think I'll be a worse doctor because I didn't finish on time?
please make videos for the sources and books we Should refer for 3rd and 4th year of medical college,,,,, as you had made it for 1st and 2nd professional year,,,, as we all run blindly for commonly books and we are not able to get high yield content,,,, as last 2 years are of great clinical value so I request you to do make it and oblige,,,😇

Congratulations! You're an inspiration man. Your videos have been so helpful throughout med school. I can't thank you enough. Good luck!
Well that was quick. Thanks for the video! Picking a medical specialty is so stressful

+Jeet Choudhury Yes, there are a few programs where you can do a dual residency in anesthesiology and IM. also you can do a fellowship in CC after.
Thanks alot. I will start looking into that.

So, 1 month after your comment, how is it now ? I hope it was just the stress, are still unhappy with anesthesiology ?
