    I get so annoyed by other players who don't know what the ME-80 is and they write it off as a GT-10...I try to explain its like having 150 Boss pedals in one spot....I run it on batteries too..no noise. I don't know I am the only one I know using it...supremely under rated.

    Try using one effect at a time, they are spot on and most are as adjustable as the original pedals.
    Once you master the individual pedals link two together and build up from there.
    It is almost an impossible task because it is so tempting to use everything else!
    I started buying the individual pedals for comparison but honestly they are bang on, you just need to master each one.

    • @DanOffGridInWyoming

      If you spend all that money on individual pedals you should make a comparison video.

    Great review ! I think a lot of guitarists don't give the ME-80 a fair chance, because if you take some time you can dial in some really good tones. It also depends upon how you're using it...straight in front of a clean amp or through the effects return of an amp will make a difference in how it sounds, not to mention going direct into a PA using the cabinet simulators. You have to try the unit yourself, and not rely on TH-cam videos because a lot of guitarists just don't understand or have the know how to get good tones. But you did, so thanks for the review !

      Mine always has a hi midrange nasally sound and there’s no way to get rid of it. I tried everything and in od, or any pre amp selection, it’s not smooth sounding do to the crappy high mid pitch

  • @philipfarias3448
    @philipfarias3448 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I don't know if you mentioned it and few people do. You will need to place a 1/8" plug into the rec. out or headphone jack to activate the amp section on the me 80. Without this plug the amp section sounds like crap but with it it sounds awesome.

    • @filipabramczyk9561
      @filipabramczyk9561 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      felipe farias No you don't. The plug activates cab emulation. Preamps work without it, for example when u go to power amp and guitar cab or u use external IR

    • @MisterAndrewBuckley
      @MisterAndrewBuckley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Filip Abramczyk I think he was referring to the cab simulation
      He's right if you plug in an 1/8 inch plug into the headphone socket it turns on cab simulation or you could just plug it into your amps effects return input bypassing your amps pre amp entirely.

    @larsgroenewegen63 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I have tested the ME-80 today using the same headphones and compared it with my ME-50, which I have since 14 years.
    The ME-80 is a wonderful multi-effect with tons of features, interface and don’t need additional switches. I really felt it was time to upgrade and tried hard to like the ME-80 more than the ME-50, especially because of the extra features and new effects, like terra echo, which sounds great. Honestly for me the ME-50 sounds better, way more clarity, although the ME-80 has more EQ options it is like the sound is covered by a blanket.
    The ME-80 has additionally a pre-amp section, but these sounds can also be achieved on the ME-50, by varying the bottom/tone on the Dist/OD and Tone Switch.
    This is all a matter of personal taste of course. The ME-80 has more options, the ME-50 sounds better and tiny bit more sturdy. (E.g. normal headphone jack)

    Bought this. Never used multi-effects pedals before and it was overwhelming at first. Then I figured out just how to use it. First of it sounds great. I use it in manual mode or just one patch that I saved. The whammy effect is fun. Some of the overdrives are really nice. Lots of delay options. Phrase looper is fun. I really like the sound and capabilities. This thing replaced many pedals that I would have bought otherwise. The bonus: Edit sounds on your computer. Record on computer. So basically it doubles as an audio interface for the guitar into the computer. Also I haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to be capable of being used as a MIDI controller in your DAW like ableton or w/e. So I really think it was worth it. Great product.

    I am a professional guitar player. I've played with this multi effects and works great. it has everything a guitar player needs! Pre-amps, boost, overdrive, distortions, modulation, reverb, delays and also the volume pedal can perform many functions. just need like 1 hour to figure out yourself how to used, 100% obviously. The quality sound is great, but you need to modify the presets.
    The best way how to choose a multi effects pedal is going to the music store and judge the item by yourself.

    This is the 5th review I’ve read and in my opinion the best. I bought this unit off a guy for 150 and tried it with headphones. The presets sounded like shit but I just tried it with headphones and it’s been sitting in a closet for a year. I pulled it out last night and used my amp (did not use preamp on the ME80) and just one pedal at a time. It’s got some really good sounds.

    I have had the ME-80 for a few years now. My chief complaint is that the reverb is incredibly lacking... There's only one control knob. I'm buying a separate reverb pedal so that I have control over the wet/dry signal of my reverb.

  • @colincolin7237
    @colincolin7237 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    bit of advice for potential buyers. in general, great for classic or blues. but if you want clean punchy djent-like tone, save a bit more for a more advanced set up. you'll struggle a bit if you want more up to date sounds. but all in all good pedal for the price. anyone has questions feel free to ask.

      Would this be good for a church?

    • @colincolin7237
      @colincolin7237 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zander Daniels yeah it would be fine for that. the only real drawback is if you want to do real djent type stuff. but even then it can hold its own, it's just not in the same league as the axe FX line. If you download Boss Tone Central(or studio I forget the exact name), there are tons of premade tones that don't come stock in the pedals memory; such as band specific patches(blue oyster cult for example) and even stuff like modulating organs. sorry for the long-winded answer I just know $300 is alot to spend for some people so I try to be thorough.

    • @zanderdaniels1848
      @zanderdaniels1848 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Papa Mcnasty well my assure you my church doesn't djent. We play like older 90s mid 2000 worship songs. Currently I have the all hated line 6 spider 75 watt, but I'm planning on getting a valveking 100h and a 2x12 either Randall or Marshall paired with this.

    • @colincolin7237
      @colincolin7237 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zander Daniels if you have a good amp to back it up, then this pedal will definitely work for you. I'd say it's niche is settled right in with a classic rock type of sound.

  • @ChrisStrat67
    @ChrisStrat67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I noticed sometimes I get tones out of it that when ran through my tube amp hurt my ears. Even at low volumes. Probably need to use the noise reduction. It doesn't sound as good through my Fender Bassbreaker 30R Tube amp as it does through a set of headphones - though I can get good tones if I spend time working with it. I need to watch your video again. This amp is relatively new so it will take time to learn - as will the ME 80.

    It would be great to show Guitarist they are able to play Thin Lizzy, Ratt and Priest type stuff by themselves and not need a 2nd Guitarist who is capable enough to play the 2nd Lead Harmony.

    Probably one of the best videos here about the ME-80. Thanks for creating this great explanation.
    And, you make it quite clear (wich I was not aware of before) that this device is NOT an Amp-Modelling tool, instead a great and versatile multi-effect device with a very intuitive user interface and great SW package and a huge user community globally.
    Your review fits quite well with my personal experience: most of the effects sound superb, but I would consider the pre-amp section more an auxiliary or backup tool to create a first impression what the sound might be when attaching the output of the ME-80 into a superb amp.
    To be honest, I never saw a guitarist going with his ME-80 directly into the PA. And, I also always feel the Pre-Amp section to be a bit delayed and digitally pumping.
    For live gigs, I would always prefer the Vox Tonelab LE or SE with its fully analog, tube-driven, power amp simulation. With this device you can directly go into any PA. Unfortunately, Vox discontinued this series. On the other side, the Boss has the far more versatile effect section.

    Hi there. Thanks for all your hard work with your videos. Sorry if you've already answered this but when I watched your ME-50 v ME-70 comparison, there was a clear winner. Have you done a sound test between ME-50 and ME-80. Thanks

    • @massivebeatzz
      @massivebeatzz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jasfiona yes - I did compare them side by side, A&B comparison back and forth with an amp, and then without any board at all to see which board would "color" the sound more" - even with everything turned off. The ME-50 has a rawer more natural sound. The ME-70 changes the sound a bit more. The effects and features on the ME-70 are slightly better - but I prefer a less altered signal, with less latency! The ME-50 also does not have amp simulation, but for what it is - the ME-50 is a solid winner for me. The build quality is better too.

    I owned the me80 for a few months and, although the effects were very good I found the lack of amp and cabinet models let it down badly. Also, its user interface is restricted due to the amount of data shown on its screen (you can edit via computer though). I did solve the amp modeler issue to an extent by using a blackstar HT Dual for real tube dirt but this, along with connecting to a computer was a PITA and defeated the object of an all in one unit.
    I chose the me80 over the gt100 initially as I wanted to save more cash to upgrade my guitar but this turned out to be a false economy as I just could not really bond with the me80 no matter how hard I tried.
    Last week I bit the bullet and bought the Boss GT100v2 and my issues are solved.
    It has more, better amp sounds, cabinet emulation and a much better interface.
    The difference between the two is night and day, the me80 put a smile on my face for a while but the gt100v2 makes me as happy as a dog with two dicks!

      Their builds say it all. The me80 is a budget pedalboard with a different approach. The ammount of buttons makes it kinda evident. The gt line is the best one can afford. I think for what The me80 was built for, it more than satisfied my needs.

    Hi mate. I used to own the ME 70 and saw your other video on it vs the ME 50. You were spot on about the ME 70 having a soft compressed sound compared to the ME 50. Is the ME 80 similar to the 50 or 70 output sound wise? I found the ME 70 output a bit soft and not responsive in some way.

    • @massivebeatzz
      @massivebeatzz  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      pradeep kumar Thnaks Pradeep - well, I think as a beginner you should really go with the ME-80. It has a lots of advantages ... No complicated sub-menus - everything is laid out like a real pedal board and analog effects! That way you can learn how to use guitar effects intuitively and understand how they work. That'll help you in the future. This is a big advantage over the GT100. Sure the GT has more sounds and amp models - , but I believe that a handful of good diverse sounds is enough to learn the craft! Even if they would cost the same, I would advise to invest in the ME-80. It' s newer too.

    • @massivebeatzz
      @massivebeatzz  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pradeep kumar any aux input will get mixed in with the output of the ME-80. It does not have a gain or volume control - so the volume gets adjusted from your SmartPhone, iPod - or any other 3.5mm cable input device. I found it a great feature to jam and practice over headphones - without the computer, there's a certain level of intimacy and containment of thought happening. But of course the computer can do the same thing via USB if connected with the ME-80 - you can hear iTunes for example, while jamming coming through the ME-80 outputs). Now, if you don't want pedals, and knobs buttons, and play more from your desktop - perhaps check out the BOSS GT-001 - it's a GT100 sound engine in a tiny new format. I am testing it as we speak, and will come back with results soon.

    Hey, massivebeatzz, great review and demo! If I understood well -by looking at your video and by reading the manual-, I have up to nine amps to choose, right? And I can add up to seven effects+pedal, right? With the ability to turn on and off any of those effects while playing, right?. Or, I can have 4 different patches to choose while playing, with the ability to go up and down the banks, so at a minimum I can have 8 patches to choose, right?. I think that´s great. At first I thought that only 9 amps sounds like not many amps when you compared it to other brand modelers offering 20+ (even 50+) amps models, but then I realize: with my Mustang amp I only have 8 amps, and I can use only 4 effects at a time (basically that´s it), so this ME80 packs more. And, in real life, I don´t think I´ll be using more than 4 or 5 amps for what I need. Thanks again!

If you research GT 100MKII, it's the same sound engine - just more manual controls. That's what I like - some people want a full blown computer at their feet - and I respect that! The other to consider is the GT001 desktop unit! All 3 mentioned beat most other pedals below 1200 dollars hands down in terms of sound! The USB recording and RE-AMPING feature is amazing! WFIST first off, you can use batteries. I prefer Eneloops recharge batteries, since it avoids hum or other line issues. Or you can use this 9V guitar power supply. Here are the links:www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GZLZQ?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0002GZLZQ&linkCode=xm2&tag=techr040-20 and for the batteries:www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JHKSMG8?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00JHKSMG8&linkCode=xm2&tag=techr040-20 . Boss ME-80 (Boss Me70 and ME-50 as well) all use 6 AA batteries. Buy 12 for 2 sets and you're good. The best charger is this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RSOV50?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000RSOV50&linkCode=xm2&tag=techr040-20 ...it keeps your batteries healthy forever (healing charge, de-charge, slow charge, individual charge ).

    Hey +massivebeatzz Would you prefer this one or the Zoom G5n, n is important. They're the same price.

      @massivebeatzz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent tried yet! I would order both! Wouldn't be surprised if G5n is better! Zoom audio recorders are top notch (H6n, F8, F6) - pro grade and loaded with goodies you don't expect! If that trickles down into their guitar products - watch out Line 6, watchout Boss. That said - do try them side by side!

    So, do YOU recommend it or not?? I have listened to it, some of it sounds nice, but for the ease of use, and being able to get your sounds fast and effective while playing, does it do that for you? Just curious?

      +Roland Lemus yes it DOES to MY ears! i find the feel, dynamic response, and also warm tone coming out of this great. I'd say don't buy it before testing it out somewhere, or at least with a chance to return it - some people want harsh, shrill tones - and it's not that great at those.

    Is there a way to stack delays with this so you can craft an ambient swell?

    • @massivebeatzz
      @massivebeatzz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bob Quinlan yes you can do 2 delays! delay section + general effect section (with delay chosen)

    hi, im new to multi-effects units. Can these gadgets use 2 kinds of DS/OD at the same time? or a mod .. example a phaser and a flanger at the same time? What about the GT-10?
    cheers :)

    • @massivebeatzz
      @massivebeatzz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      iAmNoUsername it depends on the models , but usually just one!! I know Stevie Ray Vaughan used 2 tube screamers ;)!! I'm not sure if that's a work around for you - but you also have different amps - and you can play with their gain! If it's a high octane amp, you can get really overdriven sounds from that particular (mostly modern) amp simulation. Then put a OD/DS in front of it - and you really go through the roof!

    Can you make a video on direct recording from ME-80?
