Why is Japan chopping down so many trees? Jingu Gaien and other Japanese redevelopment controversies

On March 22, 2023 the Japan Society of Northern California hosted the event titled "Why is Japan chopping down so many trees? Inside the Jingu Gaien and other redevelopment controversies gripping Japanese politics".
We were thrilled to listen to Rochelle Koop who is currently spearheading an effort against the redevelopment of Jingu Gaien in Tokyo that will result in the loss of over 3000 trees. She shared what she has learned about the threats to Japanese trees and why trees are suddenly becoming a hot political issue in Japan.
