      That would make a lot of sense, it's basically making sure his next reincarnation knows where to find the sword in case they die soon. So maybe a reason why link keeps it in the new games it's because he doesn't feel like he's going to die anytime soon, that and maybe he's just trying to find a better place as well to put it besides like a random Forest

      @@azzyhaven2204 The main thing against placing the sword in the Korok Forest is that the only thing guarding the sword would be a giant stationary tree and the helpless Koroks. Unless Hestu pulls out the Hyrule Warriors moveset (which isn't canon), nothing is stopping a strong purehearted person from taking it to put in their collection of cool swords, never to be seen again.

    In botw, he does take it back. You have a 'memory' or retrieving it in TOTK when the seal started slipping on Dehydrated Ganon.

    • @Xahnel
      @Xahnel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +207

      @Xahnel point still stands. They *did* return the blade post botw so it could recover from the Calamity. Video talks about how it *wasnt* returned in BOTW, breaking the sequence from other games.

      @@kqtiekelly you have a point there, at no point besides the intro are we able to use the master sword in the game until we get it back, the master sword breaking and being given to zelda in the past could be like "a return", just in the less traditional sense since the Link that plays in totk isn't exactly a reincarnation or new generation of the next hero and is just the same guy getting his sword back.

    I like the idea of it just being, logically, a weapon. And like all weapons, the hope is to one day no longer need to wield it, therefore, putting it to rest is symbolic of the world once more being restored to peace.
    The games in which the sword is not returned to rest, are generally the ones in which the main threat may have passed, but the world is certainly NOT completely at peace, at least not yet.

    In Totk its said, that the Master Sword gets stronger while bathing in light energy. So I'd assume, that the pedestal its in, kinda powers it up or at least makes sure it doesnt loose any of it. It's also why in botw its protected under the Great Deku Tree.
    But it does make sense, that once the evil is banished, it isnt forcefully needed anymore, therefore rests for the next hero or ocassion it is needed again.

    • @Chris-gx1ei
      @Chris-gx1ei 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      And also it is to make sure that it doesnt get in the hands of thiefs, despite the Master Sword's Power being only used by one, it is not an unliftable weapon like Thor's Hammer, anyone can carry it around at any time, and That's why you have to be qualified to obtain it before 😊
      In A Link to the Past for example it was unobtainable unless you collect the three Pendants of Courage, Power and Wisdom.
      The Hero of Time was basically killed and the Sages couldnt find another one who would suit that role, they put it in a pedestal so that no random dude would steal it, and so in order to obtain that Sword you have to prove yourself to be worthy.

    People are pointing out that it's to make sure the next hero has it; This is true plus one, as in two games, WW and TP, the Master sword is weakened from all the nonsense that happens between those games and OOT. The resting places of the Master Sword are meant to keep it from being obtained by evil doers, and keep it from depowering faster. Despite being this all powerful sword, it's worn down over time and needs to be fixed more than once.

    While I agree with everything you say, Hyrule Warriors kind of spells out why the Master Sword remains sealed, as when it's pulled out (similar to Ocarina of time), it releases the seal on evil's bane and allows Ganondorf or the threat at the moment to unleash all over Hyrule. Hyrule Warriors is the only game where LInk grabs the sword before the threat exists, rather than being guided to it and in doing so, he gets a huge burst of confidence that he can take down Cia, but he inadvertly revives Ganondorf and it's revealed Cia was under Ganondorf's influence to encourage Link to pull the sword. At the end after defeating the Demon King, he places the sword back to ensure Ganondorf is sealed again. This was the first game to clearly establish that pulling the Master Sword was a BAD idea, rather than "the only option" but in every game, the pulling of the Master sword DOES exaggerate the threat to Hyrule, and thus, it always needs to be returned once the threat is stopped. Plus In Ocarina of Time, Link goes back in time to tell young Zelda that Ganondorf IS evil and can't be trusted, thus getting him executed before he can try to steal the spiritual stones, and thus, there's no need to ever open the Door of Time and enter the sacred realm and thus... Hyrule sees peace they wouldn't have if evil were to get access to the Sacred realm.

    In TotK there's a memory when you encounter the Deku tree again. It shows you and Zelda returning to the Korok forst to retrieve the master sword, presumably some time briefly before the events under the castle. The Deku tree tells you he was repairing the sword, or rather that it was being repaired. He says the more powerful an energy that is imbued to the Master sword, the more powerful the sword becomes. Which is why the general good vibes of the Korok forest were not enough to stop Ganondorf but Zelda's extra double super juiced up light powers at the end of the game, are enough.

    I assume that it (in the games where it doesn't survive a specific purpose like sealing a threat) was symbolic of Link giving up the power when he no longer feels he needs it (AKA, the threat is done). That way he makes sure he doesn't become greedy for power, and can go back to living a humble life.

    Dont forget that the sword absorbs sacred power as it sleeps, healing and recharging it. And its pedestal is almost always in a place thst is immersed in, or generates a sacred aura. The lost woods. the Temple of Time, and the Place touched by the Goddis Hylia's power

    The other reason for returning it to the pedestal in the lost woods is to both safeguard it and ensure nobody else draws the sword (unless that person is Zelda or Rauru).

    Previously the Sword was a tool used to protect Hyrule. Once the threat passed, it was no longer needed, so it was returned so the next Hero could use it when needed. In the Wild games, the Sword is used by the Princess' Knight. So as long as Link is Zelda's protector, he will keep the Sword...and it still just happens to be the best tool to fight Ganon/Ganondorf.

    I've played numerous Legend of Zelda games. Apparently there are 11 different Links spread across 21 Legend of Zelda games. So I havent even played half of them 😅
    Link is almost always a reincarnation of a legendary hero from Hyrule's history. Wielding an evil-sealing magical sword. Usually its the Master Sword.
    In "Four Swords" Vaati (the big bad) breaks his seal, releasing evil into the world. When Link pulls the Four Sword to give chase, he is suddenly split into 4 versions of himself. (A trait unique to this sword alone.)
    In "Minish Cap" the prequel to "Four Swords" Vaati shatters the Picori Blade to escape his seal. Link sets out to restore the blade and reseal the evil Vaati.

  • @crimsonshade8920
    @crimsonshade8920 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think it's also to strengthen the seal on the sword as well. Because whenever in botw and totk, they lose energy and take a while to be used again. Which could be an explanation on why it needs to rest in the first place.
    But in totk, the sword breaks due to Ganondorfs gloom. And this could be of 3 reasons;
    One, the Sword was overwhelmed by Ganondorfs enhanced postonfrom the stone, leading it to Shatter.
    Two, the sword absorbed too much darkness to a point where it couldn't contain Demises darkness and the darkness of the gloom.
    Three, the sword hasn't been put to rest after the events of botw. Considering we used it to destroy Calamity Ganon, it could have taken a toll on its energy and strength. Leaving it to be a lot weaker than it has been.

    A most prominent reason for the Master Sword being put to rest is the idea of letting it repairing itself to reverse the potentially done damages like we see in Breath of the wild.
    But unfortunally the Master Sword seemingly does not distinguish between damage and upgrade, since it even reverses back into the Regular Master Sword if you managed to turn it into the Golden Sword like in A Link to the Past.

    Personally i think it's because any weapon needs to be maintained, even holy weapons. Constant use against insignificant threats is both overkill, and doesn't give the weapon time to repair and heal, especially being a sacred weapon such as The Blade of Evil's Bane. That's what happens in ToTK after all

    Makes me think of a blessing brok gave the draupnir spear he made in god of war ragnarok “may this spear strike true, may it be wielded with wisdom, and may it be laid to rest when the work is done” the idea of “the threat not being passed” in botw definitely holds true, even before ganondorf comes back from the dead under hyrule castle, hyrule is still overrun with bokoblins, lizalfos, lynels, hordes and hordes of monsters that camp along roads and harass travelers and villagefolk all over the country. There’s still work to do after botw ends.

    It’s always a photom-ganon(end of BotW was a phantomesk beast), ganondorf (end of TotK was the man, he did dragonify but I’m not counting that as the Ganon), then ganon, which appears closer to Demise so whatever comes next we’ll defeat and seal the evil and lay the sword to rest at the end, probably in a location we never expected to like the place it was originally forged :)

    in most games link isnt the owner of the master sword. hes just a temporary user to solve a need, and its only right to leave it in its shrine for future need. in botw and totk, he was given the master sword by the king because he was chosen by the master sword to be its wielder from then on, as royal knight and protector. the only time he is supposed to relinquish it in that timeline is because he either dies or retires from combat. in which case he would return it to the deku tree again.

    I actually think, yeah it could be the danger has passed thing but also its possible that it also at the same time could be that they put the sword back for it to heal because the Master Sword heals over time and gains power over time, so its possible that they return the master sword so that it can rest, but in Totk ofcourse the sword had been batheing in in the power from the light dragon so its likely that it could not be ready to rest yet and still has Alot of energy

    Someone has probably already commented this but I’d imagine it also lets it recharge its sacred energy for the next time there is a threat like Ganondorf. I’m basing this off of Totk where Zelda charges it from decayed to stronger than before with her own sacred power.

    i think you’re right to say it’s more for writing reasons than in universe lore! i think it does work well for lore reasons, but i’d say that, especially in the case of the more story driven games, the master sword acts as a symbol of violence as a tool for the protection and preservation of good. the goal, philosophically, is not to use the sword, but to attain a state where it is no longer needed

  • @EmpressAaliyah

    The thing with BoTW/ToTK Link is that he has a day job. He had the master sword and carried it on his person looooong before Calamity Ganon was even a known threat. As far as everyone knew, the Calamity was a long passed myth, a threat that wasn't coming back, until that seer prophesied that it would return. But Link already had the master sword before then, he actually first found it and drew it from its pedestal when he was a child. Then he went back to retrieve it later in life, when he became a full fledged knight.

    So if link returns the master sword it signals that yet another incarnation of a boy with the courage of the hero will be incarnated to take down ganondorf because demise’s curse that states, “as long as the blood of the goddess exists an incarnation of demise will rise”. Since link does not return the master sword it means there is no more gannondorf which would make sense since Gannon in totk is the same Gannon from oot anything left of demise would no longer exist which MIGHT break the curse. Another reason could be that because Zelda had went back in time to the oot timeline that it disrupted the current flow of time (time being frequently played with in Zelda lore) and therefore there was a period that the blood of the goddess was not put into a hylean. So, yes this is just all my look at the series, it would make sense for this to be the case

    In BOTW the Master Sword is legitimately Links weapon. It was given to him for his strength as a warrior. So it wouldn't particularly make sense for him to ditch it in a rock. It was only sealed away so it could regain strength and so Link could one day obtain it again after the events of his "death" and Zelda becoming a spirit.

  • @Tipani16

    Something in BOTW and TOTK that was unlike the other games that you're not considering is that there was ALWAYS a fear for the blade to be needed.....yhats how the Link amd Zelda of that time grew up....and it proved true TWICE within less than 120 years....the other games there was a promise that it wouldnt be needed again for a long time.....giving the blade time to recover for the next hero. In BOTW the sword was with link before the story started, the memories prove this. 100 year after stasis the same Link retrieves the sword again, putting it back in its pedestal after the last cut scene.Then before they go to check out under the castle in TOTK, they retrieve it again just i case. This time tho the blade only had roughly 8 years to recover at all after the last fight.....not enough time. Which proved true against mummy Ganondorf....so link sent it back in time to Zelda (thousands of years) so it repairs before he retrieves it once again. Its likely after the last cut scene in TOTK it was returned just likein BOTW.

  • @colethomas790

    I think the reason link keeps the master sword in TOTK is because there's a tertiary theme of "you put in the work to earn this, it's YOUR sword." when it comes to the master sword to really give the player a sense of accomplishment when they actually earn it.

    Returning the Master Sword usually signals, not the passing of the threat, but the end of the Hero's quest and a return to their normal life. the end of the Hero's journey.
    In Link to the Past, Link returns the sword because he is done, he saved Hyrule and is going back to live with his uncle in peace.
    Link keeps the sword in Breath and Tears because there isn't really a "peace" for him to return to. He is still carrying out his duty to protect Zelda while they rebuild Hyrule. and he will theoretically return the sword once the Kingdom is properly re-rstablished and he doesn't need to protect Zelda as her sworn knight anymore. although I feel like that Link will be carrying the sword until he is very old.

    In Hyruler Warriors, it's the only thing keeping a fragment of Ganondorf's soul at bay so Link has to return it to stop Ganondorf from breaking free again. the other three are spread throughout time and much harder to get if they somehow get free, but the Master Sword is basically the key to the lock that keeps it away in HW Link's time

    It could also be a nod to celtic mythology/folklore, where the gifts of the supernatural, such as magic swords, should be returned at some point, not hoarded. They are something borrowed, not to be owned.
    It is returned to the goddess(es), because the champion of courage respects it, unlike say, the holder of the power piece, who would just want to own the magic sword for, well, power.

After you gather the spiritual stones and open the door of time, Ganon follows you into the sacred realm and puts his hand on the Triforce, hyrule thrust in darkness for 7 years blah blah, ya get it. What confuses me is, when link goes from adult back to child, whats to stop Ganon from collecting the master sword while it's back on its pedestal, stopping Link in his tracks.
