USA does not offer anyone any class.You have to work hard for everything. There are people here in the US who are so poor they cannot afford 3 square meals and eat from garbed. There are also working class people ( working class) who live in their cars because they cannot afford rent. You choose your lifestyle.

Here in the US there is nothing like growing your own food in which shamba? I know of people in Africa who would rather live in the village ans have their gardens of food and live a simple life. The challenges people here face are even harder because you face problems on paved roads , you see big buildings, you see people walking in and out of nice restaurants. I hope one day you visit because seems like social media has twisted a lot of minds. You will even cry when you see how people here suffer and you will say in Kenya this cannot happen. If they loose that one ka job. They are on the streets. Landlords here do not care if you have been a tenant for 20 years and never missed a payment. Once you fail to pay just once because you lost your job, your on the streets.
The furniture you can sell on craigs list. Advertise as pick up themselves sale. Since furniture is in garage it will be easier to showcase for pics etc. Im surprised those people did not take because of that little bit of damage that can be fixed. You might have to check around for Salvation Army or another non profit. Also check and see if your city have free bulk trash pick up. My city has that we just call make an appointment set the junk on the curb in front of the house or in back of the house and they come pick it up on that appointment day.
