Took my 16 out today solo. 2nd time I've ever used it. Big gust caught me while I was cleated and could not react in time. Flipped me over, and I could not right the darned thing. Luckily a boat came and helped me. Now I am here trying to find ideas how to right a hobie solo👍

I have a Hobie Wave and I am very much afraid of capsizing...will I ever get ON it again?

Nice video! I think it's great that you uploaded the whole righting sequence for other sailors to learn from. I hadn't thought of using the trap hook like that with the righting line. Did you have any trouble getting the line out of the hook after you had the boat back on it's feet?

The trap hook is the way to go. Its EXTREMELY tiring trying to hold on with your arms. You wouldn't think so but it's very very hard to hold on for more than 30 seconds. With the hook, you literally dangle there and wait for the boat to come up. The key is to tie the knots in the correct place.

I'm around 195 lbs. Definitely wasn't easy took several attempts. What helped was strong winds 15-18 knots and when positioned sail against the wind it started going up.

I'm still trying to figure out why it went over, especially backwards like that. Good job getting it pointed into the wind and solo righting it, at 175 lb you've sold me on the need for a righting bucket or pole, thanks.

I think it was a combination of factors: I was tacking and backwinding the jib which pushed the boat up, I was too far back with weight and prob a wave hit front of the boat. It all made the boat to 'pull a wheelie' and I slid back.

you accidently got on the "wrong" side of the boat, according to the direction of the wind
