I guess everything just feels like an insult to gamers, now, but you're right, it's not like I ever remember anyone praising the game awards as anything important, just like we always thought most critic scores were foolish. Maybe they're right about us, and we are just angry and get set off by anything..
It's no different than when a movie everybody likes doesn't win an academy award, yet also say that academy awards are meaningless in the next sentence. It's complaining just to complain.
I’m a developer myself, so I only watch the show to see fellow creators get recognised for their work. Also for the orchestra. Otherwise, I wish players had more control over the show.
to be honest this years game awards are stupidly rigged, i don't really care about it and no matter who won GOTY i will always be congratulating, its just that this years run of games have been so poor they decided to bend the rules to include the elden ring dlc, don't get me wrong, great DLC and i can recommend it but even as a die hard elden ring fan this just aint right, its a DLC not a "game", they quite literally put a DLC for nomination for GOTY and some random card game no one knew was launching, personally put silent hill 2 remake over that mid card game and put something else but a god damn dlc...
People are annoyed with game "journalists" and even those that only take TGA as a glorified E3 can get annoyed because this shit reeks of all the bs and idiocy that journos have been spewing all year turned to the max. I care more about the games to be announced then the stupid awards but the system is still annoying no matter what especially since this is everywhere.
Yeah people may criticize the game awards now, but you gotta admit it used to mean something. There was a time where people would actually take breaks from work to watch it. The excitment it generated from wanting to know what comes next from the game studio was good. Even just being nominated for the game awards was enough to increase the sales of your game by a significant margin, because people wanted know if it was worth it. But now it is a shadow of its former self. Just like the Oscars and Grammys, its been rigged, full of self-validation and hijacked to push agendas the audience care nothing about.
Go back 15 years and you'll see the exact same sentiments except instead of complaints about nominees, it was complaints about the featured celebs, non gaming related ads, and glorifying the worst of gaming. They never used to mean anything.

4:11 to be fair, Astro Bot is really great and deserves the nom.

This year we got helldivers 2 and space marine, they had the option for GOTY but they chose not to give them a chance.
@@being47 both games are not good at all, they are boring action games with no fun at all
