  • Hey Good People,
    I had a quiet running Dodge Charger in the shop this week. Surprisingly it had no lifter tick. at over 200,000 miles! Customer stated that the check engine light was on along with a plethora of other issues. The customers wasn't happy with my discovery.
    In this video you can follow along with my diagnostic process.
    I hope you like the video and I always hope you learn something. Leave your comments below. I love hearing from you guys!

    While I know other years are a problem, almost every Pentastar on these repair videos with a ticking issue turns out to be a 2015. OTOH, only about 30% of vehicle owners do regular vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, and even then if you follow the manual maintenance schedule, you may go, 10,000 miles between changes, which will pretty much kill any car. My cousin has a 2015 Jeep with a Pentastar and it started ticking around 100,000 miles, and yeah he's pretty bad at changing the oil.

      Thats not going to make a difference buddy. If you dont have oil up top, you have severe issues. Like lifters. Get it fixed properly, and only use the oil that the manufacturer calls for. Don't use additives.

      Won't do anything. Look up RAT 540 blog, the guy independently rates oil for shear. He explains why thicker oil won't help a flat tappet cam. They rely on high oil pressure. He uses the cheap Quaker state full syn and his testing shows in a real engine it has the highest shear value of any other oil. That's what will keep your cam from getting wiped out when shtf.

    the penastar chysler engines can last if they go with quality rockers and lifters. Those cheap parts with the vendors they go through is casuign ppl to go through engines. also th 5w-30 in the southern regions they require yu to use isnt enough protection.

  • @cruzinsweetsntreats
    @cruzinsweetsntreats 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I see it's a VVT engine. After watching your video from 2021, as you were just moving into the shop, you discussed EcoTech engines, showing thise roller arms / lifters, I checked on mine .... 5 literally broke on the intake side from an impact while driving in I-5 Friday, August 29. 😮 Praise God, the engine shutdown, and Iwe safely pulled onto the outside shoulder. 😇🙏
    So despite it being replaced ~134K miles back, your reference to the leaky oil cooler, and its low pressure, could have been the downfall of that carnage, as mine was probably leaking, and didn't correlate.
    So instead of an engine, will likely be looking for a new to me used vehicle from a 2011 Chevy HHR with 284K on the car, 314K on the engine.

    3.6 is solid. I'm convinced it's debris or sludge killing these. All it takes is 1 long change and the sludge starts, from there it eventually seizes the lifter. I believe oil flow to that part of the engine is not great is why.

    Here in the UK there's a minimum of 1.6mm of tread across at least 75% of the tyre. If it's under that or has other serious defects and the police catch it, you get 3 points on your license and £100 fine. That's for each tyre! So if all four are gone and you get caught that could take you up to 12! Hit 12 and you're banned for a minimum of 6 months!

All in all, 200k is a lot of miles so he didn't do too bad. People think that they should get 300k or more out of a car, but face it that is a lot of miles. I've seen some get 4 to 500k miles and still going. Far as I'm concerned, that is a miracle, especially on a Charger.

    • @Leonarco333
      @Leonarco333 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not really. The lifters are pretty poorly designed and the oil cooler housing is made of ABS plastic. It would probably be ok in a small city car, but not a car that is marketed as a muscle car. If you are heavy on the gas, it will break and if it’s the oil cooler that breaks you are probably going to need an engine. That’s not regular maintenance. Having a critical part like that with such a high failure rate is unacceptable. That’s not an ok place to cut corners to keep costs down.
