2 years ago, my parents gave me my fathers 92 K2500 6.5L 4L80E w/ 259k miles. He told me it was ran dry on oil and has sat for 15+ years. Well after checking the fuel filter and finding out it looked brand new I filled the filter housing with ATF. Placed 2 batteries in the truck and cranked it for less then a minute and it fired right up. Unfortunately I discovered a knock. the oil looks clean and the knock is on turbo side. I have crawled under it while it was running and have no noise, clean coolant. Has no power when trying to move it and white smokes in drive or reverse trying to move it, but I can rev it and it doesn't white smoke. I really want to see hit the road again because he loves the truck but I've 1. never owned a diesel and 2. no idea about what's happening because of the lack of information about injector knock, if that's what's happening.
I just bought a 2002 gmc 3500hd .. 200k miles. Everything looks original. P1216 code. Did alos have a low boost code but it was a broken vacuum line to the wastegate fixed that..Runs ok but not great. Sounds like an injector knocking. And its chugging a grayish smoke from it.? Where do i start with diagnosis. I am a gasoline tech/shop owner.. no knowledge on diagnosing diesels.
Please help I have a 1996 chevy 3500 6.5l turbo that I just picked up I have no knowledge on diesels this is my first truck but i do know my way around the tool box . Truck seems to act like it wants to start , black , and some white smoke seems to be in the mix in between trying to start . I even tried jumping the glow plug solenoid it seems to want to run more when I do that , at times the starter starts to spin faster on its own and at times seem like it's gonna start but doesn't . Engine shakes as it fires but no start .. I can hear the lift pump working and the bleed screw on the top of the fuel filter does push fuel out when opened an key in the on position and smoke is coming out of the turbo like burning diesel smell so fuel has to be getting to the injector and burning some if also smoke it coming out the tail pipe and the smoke coming out the pipe is pretty decent clouds . But I just can't get the thing to start . As I said I just picked up the truck it was in pieces and I put it back together . Owner said he put a new injection pump as I can see someone has been in there because there was and old pdm still bolted to the intake on the engine which owner didn't bother remove and the current pdm installed on the truck in its factory location on the pump . I plan to relocate once I figure to get the truck started . Could the optical solenoid be out of time and so could moving it and advance it it help the engine start but ilde high ? I'm not totally ready to give up on my first diesel and certainly like the challenge to trying to figure it out . Please help I'm poor and don't have alot of money I can't really afford to take it to a shop
Hi, thank you for your informative videos! My 1988 GM 6.2 got plenty of white smoke after start up. (Cold). And dark smoke during hard acceleration or going ups steep hills. Also kind off lazy and thirsty, even for a 6.2 diesel. This is after replacement of both IP and nozzles. IP and nozzles are replaced by refurbished ones. Could this be due to wrong timing? Here is a link to what the timing looks like on my SnapOn 480: th-cam.com/users/shortsgjvRhU_rvfA?feature=share Please comment.

white smoke that persists can also be coolant /head gasket leaks….

Injector delay timing wrong timing wrong firing order w/h fuel knocking last fuel pump
Hey Ronnie, is this something you’re experiencing with your own truck or are you suggesting that is what’s going on with this 6.5L?
