Diesel Tech Call: 7.3L Ford IDI Timing Issues
Will the timing marks still line up if the engine is 180 degrees out? My father in law has a 1967 JD 500 Backhoe. Lately it has been extremely hard to start. I discovered goo in the fuel tank, and goo coming out of the fuel filter housing when I was changing the fuel filters. I learned that the fuel injection pump is the same as a 4010 and 4020. Thank you if you can help.
Just bought a 1989 7.3 idi and it only has 80,000 miles on it, but been sitting a long time. The only way to get it running, cold or warm, is with a quick shot of starting fluid mist. I am hoping cleaning the pump will solve this issue. Just installed new Motorcraft glow plugs, but still haven't been able to glow them, so maybe there is a harness issue.
Incredible company! Very helpful and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!!!
Well needed instructions on my 1991 JD 410 backhoe/ loader
3.50 am I'm going kinda the same thing as that dude I have wired it up to a push but but I'm not getting that buzz from the the glow plugs cyclical and can't seem to figure out what is the reason but I am going to check over my work again in the morning . I purchased the truck from a friend who had not used it in several years because of health issues and had asked him about selling it to me when he got sick and needed to raise money for living day to day because he was a coal miner and the socal security boad seems to get there jellies from trying to starve disabled coal miners out hoping that they give up way before they receive any benefits from the big energy company owned mines so I asked him what he wanted for the truck because he was trying to keep his hopes up about returning to work his lungs and heart would not allow him at that time to do much of anything and when I was over help on some projects I would like to just ask about it and he was going to use it and didn't want to buy anything else we'll 10 years has passed and old Jimmy Bob Bubba Ray the 3rd esquire is helping me log some and clean up old fields making pasture back out of them again and just out of the blue with out my prodding him he said I was just take the offer you made me on the 92 f250 4x4 5 speed 7.3 idi truck and I have always had great service with the motors in these trucks and I we started dickering around the swap for thing that basically is just taking a pile of my stuff and putting it in his yard and bringing his stuff and putting it back in my yard were it looked cleaner for a boat 2 hours even got a kiss from my not so little woman who would not even look at me when I returned home that night but she's over it now took to the Golden coral and she found forgiveness some were for the . But I bought 2 new batteries and after cranking for a few minutes seem that the return line was leaking pretty well every were you looked at it so I replaced it and still no start and I changed fuel filter and it didn't help any I made sure I checked the lines and have plenty of fuel but know start or even with a shot of starting fluid I did the glow plugs push buttons bye pass but no hum or noise when I cycle the push button it click when you touch it like was shown but no noise when your pushing the button I have to check my fuel on switch to see if it's working or not and the idea up switch also because I believe I have been doing each video on trouble shooting this problem please email the diagram for the bypass please and thank you for your help in advance and I greatly appreciate it
Hello! How you all doing? I’ve a 07 lbz and getting a code p087 fuel rail pressure to low… s far I’ve replace fuel filter head plus filter, fuel lines from the tank to engine bay plus rubber hose on engine bay all around, fuel rail pressure regulator, fuel pressure sensor, fuel rail plug valve, all 8 injector, I’ll double check my ipr tomorrow and the mml on my return line at fuel cooler to confirm but after watching your video I’m almost positive the my cp3 is about done, thank you so much and I’ll update here once I check. If anyone have any suggestion please let me know.
Som e aftermarket "chips" can cause the ROM Code.
Perfect video. Exactly what I needed to know and precise delivery of it. Thank you!
the audio is terrible in this video. fyi
Yea this was worthless
Ok back to what the video is supposed to be about At what mileage should the CP3 be charged I don’t care about some extreme mileage one went to Just o my god say at what normal mileage shout it be changed I feel like I grew old waiting on the answer that never came
John deere 5093e window is damn hard to see its on the block side, any advice?!
How can a buzz test pass completely with a bad IDM? My problem is more basic. IDM is not being enabled by the PCM. No power to it. Not turning on. Is the PCM smart enough to inhibit the IDM if there is some other problem, or is the PCM just blown?
7.44pm I have a problem with my injection pump which rotate normal but can't start the engine
Jesus the jackass on the other end of the phone making all the racket banging on the phone what the hell
Hello. I live in Shelby county and just bought a case 685 with a leaking injection pump. Can you refer anyone local that can remove for me? I'm a realtor easy to find. Nutt realty. Thanks so much. Can your techs rebuild it? I have an opportunity to buy another 685 that also needs a pump replacement. Love this tractor but have to solve this problem.
I just changed a cp3 pump on a 2006 Duramax engine and found the rubber fuel hoses bad, inside falling apart
Great video. Thanks guys
Talk a lot, but you don’t say much
👎 I did not like the reviews of this company!!! I will not be shopping here.
Will this work also for the 986? I had to replace seals/ Oring in the fuel pump cap, and now i can't get her started and ive never timed the tractor before. I didnt take the unit off the machine. The 986 is a 78' and has a Bosch pump. It doenst have the window you are talking about or at least I cannot find it
2 years ago, my parents gave me my fathers 92 K2500 6.5L 4L80E w/ 259k miles. He told me it was ran dry on oil and has sat for 15+ years. Well after checking the fuel filter and finding out it looked brand new I filled the filter housing with ATF. Placed 2 batteries in the truck and cranked it for less then a minute and it fired right up. Unfortunately I discovered a knock. the oil looks clean and the knock is on turbo side. I have crawled under it while it was running and have no noise, clean coolant. Has no power when trying to move it and white smokes in drive or reverse trying to move it, but I can rev it and it doesn't white smoke. I really want to see hit the road again because he loves the truck but I've 1. never owned a diesel and 2. no idea about what's happening because of the lack of information about injector knock, if that's what's happening.
You said 100,110,120 idm are not interchangeable.yet everything I see on forums say they are.whats the deal?
Question, can faulty diesel injectors be cause for overheating uphill regardless of radiator health?
Hey guys, I've got a 2001 E350 (4x4 conversion), the speedometer/odometer just stopped working. My mechanic thinks it may be the "abs module". Is the abs module a seperate part from either the PCM or IDM? thanks
guide stud setting. really wish that was in the video
part canon experts?
❤🎉
I have a 2003 f250 6.0 diesel it shows four injectors not contributing , runs alittle ruff will replacing the o-rings fix it as long as the wires are ok
Diesel Technology Of Chattanooga is the best place to test and buy IDM'S and PCM'S.
6.0 powerstroke wasn't introduced until mid 2003 model yr, so, a 2001MY 6.0 must be a proto type....
Great video and format.
Very well explained. Wish everyone would be as clear in presenting step by step on any installation they have to do the work right like you have. Thanks
I am always shocked with the lack of fused circuits on some of these big trucks. God forbid you get a short going to your window motor. The price for the FTR’s Window switch, which is attached to a small board to reverse the polarity. After market it’s $350. It most certainly cost them the same to make that little board and switch as it does for Walmart to make those cheap little toy helicopters.
The reason I know this. I work as a mechanic for a landscaping company. That sadly bought a ftr before I started. It’s not hard to work on. Pretty accessible, but it’s just a piece of 90s plastic junk. The landscapers have broken every single switch, but the old harvester we have is the only truck that has withstood 20 years of abuse, and is still somewhat nice. That dt466 is a work horse. It’s so cheep to maintain 😂 it doesn’t even have glow plugs or a grid heater.
Wow this was completely useless just a guy going “yup it’s prolly that call us to buy a new one”
yep
Long-winded but excellent info, thank you!
Have 2003 7.3 run fine only have this code p0603 any help
The DTC P0603 Internal KAM (Keep Alive Memory) Error occurs whenever the PCM loses power to pin #55, such as disconnecting the batteries, removing the PCM, and can also occur when installing or removing a chip. This power is necessary to keep any stored DTC's; if it is interrupted, all stored codes will be lost.
Where can u find the IPR % at????
The IDM behind the power relay is "Clicking" Click click click, and won't start when clicking. 2002 F350 7.3. Any suggestions?
wat about the fpr
you should always replace that first, it is often a culprit with low fuel pressure isssues. for the cost of the FPR vs the pump, replace the FPR, and dont forget to lubricate the O-ring(s) of the new one with fresh clean diesel or oil before installing it
Great tip on identifying by manifold temp.
Red River valley most likely
My pick up 99 ford 7.3 power stroke change 4 glow plug relay same problem. Fuel not working. Wait to start light not on
My relay has been acting up... Now my power IDM relay is clicking, It won't start when clicking. This just started yesterday.
Did you fix it?
@darylmixan8170 I had a issue sounds the same. I unhooked both negative leads from both batteries, took a booster cable and hooked the black lead to both negative sides for about 5 mins, took it off and hooked my cables back to the batteries and started it up. It stumps the computer and resets the system. I'm just telling you what I did and you may want to research it before doing the same. It may work for as well.
I had the same problem with my 02 7.3l and it was the ground cable under the air filter on the fender well
I@@treeofliberty4407
OK, I have a towed in dodge 3500 with injector pump already off. I installed a new one but have no fuel out of the cp3. I have yet to do a flow test, but I do have some getting to cp3.
And the fuel pressure sensor is jumping from 0 to 21 psi on the scanner.
I need some help with my 6.0 powerstroke. Have a 6 inyector circuit low. If you can help me wich are the more common causes of this code and also it have EGR P0401 code. And P0404
I have the same code except cylinder 5, I’m not sure if it’s the harness or the injector
Same code except mine is #1
Just going to throw this out there... my cp3 is at 741,000+ miles. 2005 LLY, injectors were done at approx 610k just because...
Very good info Thanks for sharing your products look good I'm going to look further into them.
Please I need help with my 6.9 Idi I had to replace all the fuel system like fuel lines fuel tank injection pump injectors lift pump no I can get the truck start the truck starts and runs for like 2 or 3 min then dies and is impossible to be able to run right away after it dies basically I had to wait till next day to be able to start the truck again any suggestions please anybody? Thanks
How do I test IPR percentage? Do I need a scan tool?
U find it ??
