No autotune back then Brad? That is just a man with a phenomenal gift. Robert Plant is considered by most as the GOAT vocalist of all the best Rock bands of all time.
@@pulsarlights2825 I agree but to me their best album Physical Graffiti came out after he blew out his voice. And to be fair, it wasn't like his voice was horrible afterwards. It was just not as good. I do admit some live performances it was horrible but in general it wasn't. The reunion concert in 2007 it sounds pretty dam good for a 60+ year old man.
I would suggest “Hey Hey What Can I Do?”. It has a more acoustic feel and is still uptempo. Great song. No such thing as auto tune when this song was made.
Hey Hey what Can I Do - great song a lot of people don't know about. Released in a boxed set in the early 90s. Highly recommended. And Going to California - definitely no auto tune in 1971. Developed in 1997.
Yes Lex, this is a Folk Rock song. Jimmy Page playing the six and twelve string acoustics guitars. John Paul Jones is playing the mandolin. Y'all need to do more Zeppelin. Brad, for more acoustic Led Z, try the songs "Bron-Y-Aur" and "Black Mountain Side" or "White Summer".
I really think Brad would like " the battle of evermore" by led zepplin. Both would prob like it, has great harmonies! But its not the typical led zepplin sound?
I remember in the early days of TH-cam they had they entire live at earls court concert on here. Even the part where he snorts coke off his arm. Of course now they’ve pulled that.
No auto tune on the Golden God, Robert Plant :) This is from their 1971 album. It's still Jimmy Page on guitar - he's an incredible composer. John Paul Jones (the bassist) is playing mandolin on this one. I'd definitely suggest The Battle of Evermore from the same album for another real folksy acoustic song (with guest vocalist Sandy Denny) where Jimmy Page plays mandolin and JPJ is on acoustic guitar. These guys really were incredible musicians. That's The Way is another great acoustic folksy kind of song. The third album (1970) has a bunch of really cool acoustic stuff. Friends is amazing; has that acoustic stuff, but still some awesome dissonance and heaviness. Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp are all in that vein. Hats off to Harper is a very different feel, a tribute to Roy Harper with a panned audio with Page's slide acoustic guitar in the left channel and Plant's effect driven voice (really heavy echo and maybe some tremolo?) in the right channel. Funky, not for everyone, but I enjoy it. Back to the heavier stuff - I'd suggest you do Achilles Last Stand as soon as possible. It has a serious galloping drum/rhythm line for Brad to get behind, and fantastic guitar work for Lex to love. The Song Remains the Same is another with great drums and guitar work. I mean.. it's Zeppelin, the only songs that don't have great drums are the songs without drums - and they all have amazing guitar. You guys can't go wrong.

Hi Brad, when you said “he was going to California to look for love, the perfect woman, but that doesn’t exist.” You had a golden opportunity for brownie points and could have said “except for you Lex.” 😁
That’s why Zeppelin concerts are legendary. They were known for 3 hour concerts that consisted of rock, folk, and monstrous guitar solos. I watched an old interview of Jimmy Page, and he said, when they played live, you got to experience all the different the colors and shades…
No autotune in the 1970's, Brad!! You two should add "The Battle of Evermore" to your playlist. First the Led Zeppelin version, then the version as done by Heart! An epic cover if ever there was one, and showcases hidden talents of the Wilson sisters!
They recorded this in a larger home that had wonderful sound effects depending where he was singing in the house. It’s John Paul Jones on a mandolin & Jimmy Page on acoustic. By far, this has always been my favorite Led Zeppelin song. Helped me when I was really depressed as a kid.
@@richardlee1972 amazing therapy! I’m 32 but so grateful for parents that introduced me to an extreme variety as well as just what I grew up with in my own time. Music is life for me at this point.
Brilliant choice guys. Brad, that was definitely NOT autotune, man. One reason is that autotune tune wasn't around in 1971 and the other is that Robert Plant is one of rock music's greatest vocalists. He has no need autotune: he can sing. And the guitars were Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones on the other guitar as there's no bass. You should check out more of the acoustic, rustic side to Led Zeppelin. "That's The Way", "Gallows Pole", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp", "Friends", "The Battle Of Evermore" and "Hey Hey What Can I Do" and "Poor Tom".
no auto tune . This album just had a 50 year anniversary November 8, 1971 yes Jimmy page was the only guitarist. He was a session player in England in the 1960’s .

Bob Dylan is a Legendary Songwriter as well . . He definitely is an important figure when it comes to the popularity and rise of protest music. He even got The Beatles to step away from their earlier love songs quicker than they might have otherwise. However if you strip Joni Mitchell songs and Bod Dylan Songs of their lyrics. . i think what you'll find is that Bob Dylan's songs fall flat without his folk lyrics or other musicians. Joni's earlier work; when it was just her, her guitar or piano, definitely outshone Mr Dylan in terms of musicianship and innovative arrangements. Both excellent Poets
Trippy hippie vibes, man! "If you're going to San Francisco \ Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" Scott McKenzie "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)" (1967) "Stairway to Heaven" and "The Battle of Evermore" were the other two trippy hippie tunes on Led Zeppelin IV. Welsh songstress Sandy Denny joined Robert Plant on "The Battle of Evermore". She was the only other singer to ever appear on a Led Zeppelin album. The band even assigned a special symbol for her on the liner notes to the album. If you've got a thing for angelic voices, then lend your ears to her voice. Amazingly Great Versitility as a Rock Group that made them one of the Top Rock Groups EVER!! ❤️ ZEPPELIN you can't go wrong with anything they did! Thx for Showing Everyone their Greatness!
I've read that they were crushing pretty hard on Joni Mitchell, who was living in Laurel Canyon in California. Oh, she sings! Auto tune (not yet hatched) is about pitch, not tone. It corrects poor pitch - flat or sharp notes.
There are 2 reasons for this song. Lex mentioned about the groups versatility and that is one reason but the other is that when they played live, they played for about 3 hours and during that time a song like this meant they could sit down for 5 minutes and have an acoustic break.
This song is a bit of an homage to Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell whom both Robert and Jimmy were big fans of. When Joni got to the US, she settled in California which had a big folk music presence. Sometimes when they'd play this song in concert, after Robert sang the line "she plays guitar and cries and sings" he'd say "and she comes from Canada". Joni often used alternate guitar tunings for her songs, a skill Jimmy also often used for Zeppelin songs, including this song. Zeppelin have their own connection to California. California is the first place in the US that truly embraced Led Zeppelin's music. It was also the location of the infamous Hyatt House hotel (nicknamed the "Riot House") where the band would stay and was the scene for many legendary "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" type stories. When Jimmy was in California mixing the album this song was on, he experienced one of California's earthquakes, which is ironic considering the lyric "mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake".
I always love when you react to Led Zeppelin - my favorite is a live performance of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" titled - Danmarks Radio 1969. It's an amazing performance of a very young band - even if you never do a reaction to it - watch it sometime for your own personal pleasure. There are 3 or 4 other songs from that same performance - all fantastic. Thank you for your reactions.
I agree that you must listen to "That's the Way" - my favourite Zeppelin acoustic song. And Lex, for me it was great to hear an American pronounce the "i" in "versatile"!

you have just barely scratched the surface with Zepplin, they are very eclectic & play a variety of music mostly blues based but a lot with a Medieval flavor too - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!
Another example of why Zeppelin was, is and WILL ALWAYS BE the ultimate rock band. They did EVERYTHING- rock, blues, r&b, soul, funk, folk, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, prof, fusion, et Al…
I grew up in the center of the Earth at the best time ever for music. Started listening to doo wop when i was 8 in 1957 and lived in Orange county ca. till now. Even though Led Zepplin was hard rock this still is my favorite by them.
"This is a different sound from led zeppelin!" How many times have you said that in zeppelin reactions? That's zeppelin for ya. No labels or boundaries. Not just a rock band.
his song was written as a tribute to (then) folk singer Joni Mitchell, especially her beautiful tune "California" off of her classic "Blue" lp... Zepp did more folky songs on their 3rd lp, which is my personal fav album; thanx for the memories of my youthful 1970s!
Such a great Zeppelin tune! You are right about how versatile they are. If you want to hear a great cover of this, look up Amy Lee's (from Evanescence) version. My word, it is beautiful and her voice was meant to sing it. Great choice and reaction!
Love you guys! Lex, you are a 70s flower child in your soul! Thanks for reviewing so much Led Zeppelin. You should do Zeppelin 3 if you haven't already. "That's the Way" is the one to pick!
At one time they bought a house. They used it for a recording studio. They had a person in everyroom playing the instrument. The sound was unusual but memorable. The accustics was noticable.
love the way you guys do videos. 14 seconds in and on the song. to many reaction videos have 1-2-3 minutes of rambling about nothing to start. really enjoy your videos. hope you guys keep going long time!
Led Zeppelin has a huge acoustic library. Their 3rd album is mostly all acoustic except for two or three songs. Jimmy Page played some acoustic guitar on their very first album, an instrumental called "Black Mountain Side".
A tribute to Joni Mitchell, who Plant & Page were fans of (The "girl with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair," the "queen without a king" who "plays guitar and cries and sings"),. She is a folk singer/songwriter (and later evolved into Jazz) from Canada who lived in Laurel Canyon in the mountains above LA in the late 60s early 70s. Great songwriter with the most beautiful voice you've ever heard. I recommend her song "California" though you can't go wrong with anything in her extensive catalog.
They used a Tape Echoplex, it is like a long hall type of reverb, classic and legendary. Jimmy Page played the Acoustic Guitar and John Paul Jones (The bass player) played the Mandolin.
No auto tune...didn't have it back then. He just had echo on. Also acoustic guitar here by Jimmy and a mandolin by JPJ!
yup and sounded like he just stood further from the mic
Led Zeppelins ode to Joni Mitchell, loved the earls courts live version

Greetings from Oregon. Hitchhiked from Michigan and found and married my wife 33 years. This song is still very special.
When you are great, you don't need no freakin' autotune! Besides, it wasn't invented yet!
you have just barely scratched the surface with Zepplin, they are very eclectic & play a variety of music mostly blues based but a lot with a Medieval flavor too - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!
Zeppelin was the most versatile band of any era. Page on acoustic guitar, John Paul Jones on mandolin.
I think Pink Floyd’s more versatile
@@jeremiahpalumbo8381 Zepp covered more genres, but I have nothing against Floyd.
My favorite song by them. So glad you got to hear it. Put your feet up and just relax
The versatility of this band is legendary.
Another example of why Zeppelin was, is and WILL ALWAYS BE the ultimate rock band. They did EVERYTHING- rock, blues, r&b, soul, funk, folk, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, prof, fusion, et Al…
This song has one of my favorite lines ever, “ride a white mare at the footsteps of dawn”
I grew up in the center of the Earth at the best time ever for music. Started listening to doo wop when i was 8 in 1957 and lived in Orange county ca. till now. Even though Led Zepplin was hard rock this still is my favorite by them.
I love listening to this song on a trip with windows down and loud music blaring. Love this song.
Standing on a hill in the mountain of dreams...I love that lyric.
Great. I’ve just realised I spent ages learning this song on guitar and I haven’t played it for nearly a year and I’ve forgotten it again 😥
Another GREAT folk sound by Zeppelin is Battle Of Evermore.
Oooooh soooooo goooood👍
Such a great Zeppelin tune! You are right about how versatile they are. If you want to hear a great cover of this, look up Amy Lee's (from Evanescence) version. My word, it is beautiful and her voice was meant to sing it. Great choice and reaction!
Love you guys! Lex, you are a 70s flower child in your soul! Thanks for reviewing so much Led Zeppelin. You should do Zeppelin 3 if you haven't already. "That's the Way" is the one to pick!
All Zeppelin songs are unique,,,,,💥👍💥
Great acoustic Zeppelin classic! Definitely with folk roots.
At one time they bought a house. They used it for a recording studio. They had a person in everyroom playing the instrument. The sound was unusual but memorable. The accustics was noticable.
Maybe the best string duet in all of music, as they chase each other around. And those LYRICS!
A HAUNTING YET BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC,,
LED ZEPPELIN "NO QUARTER"
This is such a relaxing song
Just subscribed 🥰
love the way you guys do videos. 14 seconds in and on the song. to many reaction videos have 1-2-3 minutes of rambling about nothing to start.
really enjoy your videos. hope you guys keep going long time!
Greatest Band ever giving props to Joni . Love this track
Led Zeppelin has a huge acoustic library. Their 3rd album is mostly all acoustic except for two or three songs. Jimmy Page played some acoustic guitar on their very first album, an instrumental called "Black Mountain Side".
This is such a great song. The more I listen to it, the better it gets.
Led Zeppelin has so many qualities to their music 🎶 I love the strong songs but I gotta admit, their quiet ones are like hidden gems.
Greetings from Oregon. Phido and I just love you two. Lex just adores you Brad. We wish all the best to you and your family.
Just a pure voice
He backed up from the mike and sang from deep down and ripped it to a high that was awesome. Pure talent
