I love your approach to the RWYO challenge, Cliff 👍. I think it’s a great mix of motivating yourself to read your own books, but also enjoying the book shopping. I’m going to do something similar, and will also allow the 2nd hand book shopping whenever I want because I missed it so much last year! I’m going to go easy on myself for 2025 :). Nice haul! I hope that Jeff Strand book is good! I’d definitely be interested in reading more from him since I liked Clowns vs Spiders so much too. 😊
Thank you so much Farrah! All the best for adapting the challenge to suite your needs. I think it is important to allow yourself the luxury to buy books once in a while. Thanks, I loved Clowns vs Spiders and look forward to reading more Jeff Strand. ☺
I hope the challenge is a success for you. I'm taking part in this challenge too. Like you, I have exceptions for book clubs and readathons. I also subscribe to a couple of book boxes. My reason for doing this is because I have too many physical books and I need to read them down some.
I failed last year as well, in some ways for me it sucked the joy out of reading, it may have something to do with that I mainly by old books, which is why I wouldn't do it again. Good luck this year
Great that you are going to take part in the read what you own challenge. I’m trying for the 1st time for 100 books but I know it’s going to be hard. Buying books makes me feel so happy so it will take a lot of will power.
I love your take on the challenge. You have to take into account your situation of no libraries/other outlets for fun. I pretty much only spend my money on books (and sometimes yarn) so taking that away completely just feels silly to me. I DO still want to read down my physical books though. oooh, good choices! from below, brother, and a head full of ghosts are all ones I enjoyed, and Katie is one I own that I've been wanting to get to. Fevre dream is on my radar because of Michael, so I do want to get to that as well. I think you are taking a healthy approach to this challenge!
Thanks Kritz! It is definitely going to be tough but I am determined to read more of the books on my shelf next year. I am looking forward to reading those books and I also watched Michael's take on Fevre Dream.
I wish you great success with the challenge. I can't do it I like thrifting to much lol. I have tried to cut back but now and then a cool book finds me. 😁 Fun haul!
Four Past Midnight - awesome, I need to read that soon. Waiting to read The Langoliers and watch the movie to compare. I can definitely relate to what you are saying - same for me the thrift store is my happy place. Kudos to those who are a part of the challenge. But when I shop at the thrift store it isn't just money for books, but money for my community and job training programs, so no I won't stop shopping because like many business they are also trying to recover after the covid years. Good luck with your challenge.
Thank you so much! Yes, the bookshop is my happy place but I definitely want to read more books from my shelves next year. That is wonderful that you are supporting the community, I would definitely keep doing that.
I love how you’ve adapted the read what you own challenge to something that will work for you. I think I’ll have to see if I can adapt it to work for me too. The 99p books on kindle are my nemesis so would be good for me to reduce how many I buy for a bit 😊
Brother! I think you're going to love that one. You're right, I gave A Head Full of Ghosts 5 stars (it's no Mexican Gothic, but it may work on you, too🙃And, yay, Fevre Dream! It sounds like you've got quite an excellent Kindle haul. And thanks for reminding me I need to check out Chad Lutke. Which one to start with? (I've probably asked you that same question 10 times already. Eventually, I'll get to him...) Thanks for sharing, and keep those pages turning indeed😁
Thanks my Brother! What?? No Mexican Gothic?? 🤣I will definitely read A Head Full Of Ghosts soon, purely based on your recommendation... which finally persuaded me to finally buy the book! 🤣🤣 I know you do not enjoy teen, coming if age stories so honestly, I have to say I really don't know. I love Lutzke but perhaps try something different like his splatterpunk Western: How The Skin Sheds. My absolute favorite is Skullface Boy but would totally understand if that does not speak to you as it did to me. Take care my friend.
I want to get to those two sooner rather than later. I think I have set out my challenge in such a way that will make things more manageable this time around.

Thanks Stuart, good luck for the challenge. I wish you success in reading more of the books you own.
@CliffsDarkGems You're welcome Cliff. Thank you
A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay was a five star read for me. Enjoy!
Thank you! I look forward to reading the author for the first time.
5 stars for me, too!

Thanks Vanessa! I found it really difficult the first time around for the reasons I mentioned. Will be good to break it down into smaller chunks.
Good luck Cliff! You’ve got some great ones there
Thank you so much Olly. I'm determined to succeed this time around.

😂
Thank you Michael. Yes, your 500 challenge is not something I would ever attempt. 😅
I wish you great success with the challenge. I can't do it I like thrifting to much lol. I have tried to cut back but now and then a cool book finds me. 😁
Fun haul!
Thank you! I think I must be a bit crazy to try it again lol. 😂

Thank you so much. I hope you can make it work for you, particularly with those kindle specials. 😀
Man, you are really out in the boonies. Read what you own is my favorite challenge. Really makes you take stock of what is important on your shelf.
Thanks for watching and I absolutely agree. I want to concentrate on reading more of the books on my shelf next year.

Good luck with the challenge mate, I think you are crazy, but I hope you do it 💪
Thank you Big Al! Agreed, I am a little crazy for taking it on. 😂
Il be reading Brother and Head Full of Ghosts at the beginning of December. I have a shelf specifically dedicated to books I have yet to read.
I want to get to those two sooner rather than later. I think I have set out my challenge in such a way that will make things more manageable this time around.
@ yeah, just map out your reading adventure. It’s just fine to have a detour along the way.
I'm going to try to read 50 books during the read what you own challange. I will buy new books with gift cards I get for Christmas and my birthday. 📚
That's awesome Leslie! Good luck with the challenge.📚 I am hoping my plan will make it more manageable for me this time around.
