For those wondering if this song sampled another song: It did not, but it did use some royalty-free loops from Logic Pro. Specifically, the strings in the song are a slowed down version of the, IIRC, "avenger ensemble" strings loop.
The trick is to not turn a corner until you're done with the previous strip of platform. Blocks will start falling down in a given direction only when you start running in that direction, if that makes sense. Try getting some of nearby targets before turning each corner to maximize the time you have later on. With that in mind it's relatively easy to do without upgrades. Most of the challenges have a trick you can do without upgrades. (The Calamity Cannon one is the big exception for me.)
You have to think fast to survive the Wilds, and none thought faster than the Slingers. They could shoot their pistols with the speed of a machine. They knew just when to start shooting…and when to stop.
@xSesuKunx First run: Scrap Musket and Duel Pistols. Those pistols were mainly for the gauntlets in who knows where to take out the turrets from outside their max range.
Same here. I don't understand that guy's frustration. If anything, I found the Fang Repeater challenge to be next-to-impossible. But then again, the very challenge made me realize that you can use upgraded weapons on the Proving Grounds. Nothing was very hard anymore after that realization.
Pike for damage + medium range + knockback + armor pierce, Cannon for long range + AoE + invisible-countering DPS + huge burst damage + Mancer Missile. Pike is tuned focusing thrust attacks and speed, Cannon is tuned for fast shots and damage =)
First playthrough was War Machete and Army Carbine with Graver Slash. Second was Cael Hammer and Army Carbine/ Duel Pistols with Whirlwind/ Gel Canister.

But god DAMN I am SO glad I got the collector's edition with the CD containing all soundtracks, a piece of awesome looking cloth with the gear in center, some cards with art on them (including one from Transistor), and probably more that I can't remember. Music means SO much in video games, and the less complex games seem to do that part a lot better. Some exceptions, I know.

@Konohagakure8 My combo was the Pike and the breakers bow with the 1st place skill for the breaker challenge. The pike made short work of all the small enemies and the bow just wrecked large targets with that rapid fire.
@AbnormalMeows War Machete and Slinger Pistols where it was convenient for the first run, done mostly with a 360 gamepad. I'm using the Brusher's Pike and either the Calamity Cannon or Galleon Mortar for round two, since I've upgraded all the weapons and decided to stick with a mouse and keyboard instead of switching the control schemes all the time.
Hint on how to make it easier: get Werewhiskey and before picking up the repeater fall from the edge of the world a few times so it kicks in. Onehiting targets with no repeater upgrades at all = win.
You ever stop and wonder if Bynn is the kid's name? Story says he did everything a Breaker does. That and this song usually plays on the Proving Grounds where the kid is the focus, upping his skills. I think I'd be okay with that.
@lVlaximumPower Had trouble there myself, until I found out there's a limited amount of red squirts that spawn (these are the ones that run from you) and that the best tactic is to QUICKLY get to the center and spawn kill all of them. Get the corn bins next, kill the rest of the blue squirts, and save the turrets for last (since they're shooting at you and can actually hit some of your targets).
This. Make sure to be quick and chop up the brown squirts, with the first cripple upgrade you can take care of them in a single slash. After that you take out the squirt spawners and throw your machete until all the squirts are down (the turrets miss you a lot and are quite good at killing squirts). Last call of business is to power throw each turret (takes them out instantly). Only takes a couple tries.
I had the fully upgraded Cannon by the time I attempted it (I didn't even notice it was there until I hit a New Game +). Those windbags never saw it comin'...
Cael Hammer and Carbine for me, or Cael Hammer and Breaker Bow. I love the raw power of the Cael hammer, the damage it can do is amazing when fully upgraded, always destroying (almost) everything in one shot. The Breaker Bow is great for fast shots and long range. Even better to get rid of many enemies at once if upgraded accordingly. The army Carbine on the other hand, if upgraded for fast aiming is also great if you want to get quick pot shots at the enemy before moving out
Yeah, but they were also the messengers. Kid worked as one of the Marshals' trusted messengers and was hoping to get a badge eventually. There's more stuff that supports the theory in the game, but maybe imagination has a way of filling in the gaps.
@MikeIronweaver56 The trick to the machete challenge is to run to the middle and get all the ones that spawn there before they pile up and start running away, then it's easy picking taking out the security and Squirt Spawners.
Pike for being the strongest melee weapon I have (range doesn't hurt either, particularly not against Ura), Carbine for having a stupidly long range as well. Also, Pike Vault to make use of Falling Malt.

I'm a man of extremes: Hammer and Carbine. Both are extremely powerful, can punch through armor with upgrades, and can kill most enemies with few attacks. Carbine = extreme range. Hammer = Up close and personal.
I feel like an idiot. It took me until NewGame+ to actually realize that the shift button that locks on with the shield can also be held down to fire weapons. Made the Fang Repeater challenge a breeze, but I still feel stupid.

@chaz706 The carbine is not extreme range, the bow is the ultimate ranger's weapon but you also have to guess shoot every now and then. the carbine takes too long to aim. The best personal weapon is bullshield+flamethrower/shotgun with armour piercing. Nothing beats that combo.

I also used Werewhiskey for the Fang Repeater challenge which is 1-2 hit KO for each target. Don't forget about auto locking with the shift key.

Reminds me of Rockmen from FTL. Love these "clockwork" music, as I like to call them. Bastion has a surprisingly great OST. Loving it~!!

Imo the best soundtrack in the game, there's only one track playing on the gramophone inside the Bastion, and it's this one.

Solved The Shingles by running up a few steps, holding shift to auto lock, and quickly shooting each target.

@Nappingnappers if you max out the aiming speed on the carbine it's as fast as the bow. That + armour piercing is great for lunkheads etc.

Guys. They sampled stuff for the songs. Happens all the time. Not a huge deal.

People dont realize how easy the war machete challenge is, just run to the centre at the start and slice all the moving ones as they appear
