Slightly unpopular opinion: this is my favorite movie of the trilogy. TDK might be a better film, but I love the world building and the tone of this one. Such a welcome change after Schumacher's Batman and Robin...

I really like that they started with the Scarecrow as the villain and not the Joker, because he is also a big comic villain and his fear toxin is nothing to sneer at.

Without spoiling the later films I do think Batman Begins is still my favourite of the Nolan trilogy even though I prefer the plot and characters of The Dark Knight, Begins as a film just has such an unique tone and atmosphere. Also like this take on Gotham City captures the feel of Gotham even if I would've preferred more Art Deco and Gothic Revival Architecture I did love the Art Deco style train system that was connected to Wayne Tower along with the Narrows which was heavily based on Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong adding a very dystonia feel to the city.
With Gotham the TV being you're only insight on the world of Batman it's not a bad start at all as the show from a visual standpoint has a really solid rendition of Gotham City even featuring a very timeless aesthetic of old and new tech where people still use typewriters but also cell phones. This is true within the comic's as well but because Nolan wanted to go for a more grounded modern look and feel these aspects aren't apart of this universe.
Like you mentioned Gotham is it's own thing with zero connection to the Nolanverse. This is the same for the Tim Burton movies and the DCEU all existing as differant universes with there own take on the characters. Think of it like how there's three different Spider-Men with Sam Rami, Marc Webb, and the MCU all existing in their own universes.
The only thing I don't really like about the film is the super funny Batman Bale voice. I know why he does it to hide his voice but it just sounds super silly and at times just took me out of the moment but within Begins I do think it's his best version of the voice. Still wish they went for a augmented voice or something along those lines. Some people love it and some people hate it just one of those things. I'm also biased as hell as Kevin Conroy of the Batman Animated Series and Arkham games is just the voice of Batman for me having the perfect Voice of Batman and voice Wayne.
Most of the characters featured in this film are from the comic's excluding Rachel Dawes who was created for this film.
Scarecrow is a really cool character first appearing in World's Finest Comics #3 (Autumn 1941) two years after Batman introduction. I really like this rendition of the character massive Cillian Murphy fan but I just like how his calmness adds to the creeper factor. The character of Ra's al Ghul first appeared in Batman #232 (June 1971) a really cool character but like I've mentioned in this film Nolan made him alot more grounded to suit his more grounded universe. In the comic's he's a little.... Different lol
Carmine Falcone is a really cool character first showing up in Batman #405 (1987). The character plays a big part in The Long Halloween by Frank Miller and usually only appears in early Batman comic stories set in around Year one to Year Two of Bruce becoming Batman. For example The Long Halloween is set on Bruce's second year as the caped Crusader while in Begins we get to see Bruce become Batman for the first time depicting his early years similar to that of the comic. He's a classic Mafia style character meant to showcase the transition from Crime Families to Super Villians a new era of crime.
Joe Chill was first introduced in Detective Comics #33 November 1939 but wasn't named until Batman #47 in June-July of 1948. Just like the movie Joe Chill was a small-time criminal who ended up gunning down Martha Kane and Thomas Wayne in Crime Alley.
Lucius Fox first showed up in Batman #307 (January 1979) and is pretty much Bruce Wayne's business manager who of course also supports the Batman. He also creates the high-tech tools and vehicles for Batman which of course is showcased in this film. Captain/Commissioner Gordon was introduced in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939) as the first ever Batman supporting character. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon in Nolan's films is very close to his comic counterpart in both his relation with Batman but also his appearance.
Victor Zsasz made his appearance in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 (June 1992) a sadomasochistic and psychopathic serial killer who. He's an interesting character but he was very much a small role in this film just showing up as a random bold prisoner. Barbara Gordon was introduced in World's Finest #53 (1951) and is the wife of Commissioner Gordon sharing the name with her Daughter Barbara Gordon who is an important character in the comics, games, and animation shows. These are some of the few key characters featured in this film but there's a couple of other side characters many created for the film and others who are small side characters in the comics.
Overall a really great film which set the stage for two sequels which you'll no doubt really enjoy. Mask of the Phantasm is still my favourite Batman film but Begins is pretty close.

Something I love about Nolans films is how you pick up on more details upon later rewatches, such as in Inception or Interstellar.
One of my favourite details I noticed upon my rewatch of Batman Begins is that the blue flower Bruce takes with him at the start is the same used by Scarecrow to create his fear inducing drug.
It explains why Bruce began having multiple flashbacks throughout the film, as the hallucinogenic effects of the flower he was carrying brought out his fears until he discarded it.
It's great because of the extra layer of realism it adds to the film.

    • @onemoreminute0543
      @onemoreminute0543 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@MoMoMyPup10 The issue I have is that (without spoiling anything) the whole 'indirect killing/collateral damage' over the whole trilogy kind of defeats the purpose of Batman's 'no kill' rule.
They try to get around it by making it so that Batman isn't like, directly blowing someone up. But it became more uncomfortable to me on later rewatches that Nolan's Batman was compromising his own code regardless.

So happy you liked this movie so much!! If you enjoyed it, then the next part will blow you away. The hype when DARK KNIGHT came out in the theatre was unreal and it actually lived up to the hype.
The thing I like about this trilogy is that they tried to make it seem like it was a real person who becomes a superhero, instead of a person with super powers, so it feels more 'real' , and I really like that. NOLAN is just a fantastic director and you are correct when you say that the music is great too!

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I liked BB most of the trilogy. DK was a great movie but Scarecrow was kept similar to the (admittedly limited) experience I had previously with the character, but much more pronounced. Joker was very different from the many previous incarnations, so while Ledger did an amazing performance of an interesting character it didn't seem connected to the Joker I knew. Combined with all the hype that DK got, it just left me disappointed. And DKR I didn't care for much at all.

I've grown to be a bit more critical of the Nolan trilogy as the years have rolled by but it's still a VERY solid trilogy with tons of memorable moments and performances.

One aspect in which they tried to ground the film in realism was by removing the more mystical powers of Ra's Al Ghul
In the comics, Ra's was immortal due to the use of a mystical 'Lazarus Pit' which meant he had lived for hundreds of years.
In this film, the immortality aspect is instead recontextualized as him having body doubles and the League of Shadows itself being an organisation that has lasted for hundreds of years

    • @mechanomics2649

The movie's way of addressing his immortality works perfectly with the concept that Bruce Wayne internalizes and puts into practice, becoming a symbol that transcends who he is as an individual.

Really enjoyed your reaction. I actually appreciate that most of your reaction is you just reacting with your body language rather than talking a bunch. I know most reactors do that to avoid copyright stuff but they also miss a lot of the important dialogue of the movie and by the end, some completely miss the point of what the story was trying to tell. So I really do like that you were really engaged in the movie and saved your thoughts and feelings at the end.
While I definitely love the Dark Knight more than this movie, I still think this movie is really great. I think Christian Bale did a great job at really capturing the playboy persona of Bruce Wayne as well as doing a pretty good Batman. However my favorite Batman will always be Kevin Conroy's Batman from the Animated Series. Besides the comics, the animated series truly captures who Batman really is. I really hope you consider watching some of the animated DC movies too. Most of them are standalone movies that aren't interconnected but they are top tier amazing. Batman Under the Red Hood, The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2, Mask of the Phantasm and Justice League Doom are just a few of my favorites. Again really loved your reaction and I can't wait to see your reaction to the Dark Knight. I think you'll really enjoy it!

There is a many Batman movies or series of movies, TV shows, animated stuff (the 90's animated TV series is still one of the best Batman stuff out there) And they all are different and not related .. Just different takes on the same hero .. The Tim Barton movies, The Nolan trilogy, the new one with the Justice Ligue .. The very last one from this year is stand alone too..

@@kaiielle Yeah, Batman is kind of like James Bond in that the wealth of source material allows for so many different stories to be told with various directors and actors.
Much in the same way that Bond had been retold in multiple iterations from Connery to Craig, Batman has too from Keaton to Pattinson

Hi Yuta! The subtitles on my TH-cam videos directly (not hte movie) are the automatically translated ones, and as a result there are a handful of errors here and there. Unfortunately, I don't have the time currently to go in and correct any mistakes, but I hope to be able to afford to outsource this some day so that my subtitles are 100% correct and accurate. I'm glad you appreciate them!

@@kaiielle well worth it , easily one of the best television shows in recent years the final season just finished but a movie is in production. Its a period gangster story 1919 to 1933 . His haircut in the dark knight is because of the tv show. Its a bit like a British version of the godfather. And he is the al Pacino type character. Its British TV so each season is only 6 episodes. The writing is amazing. Its very cinematic.

I have noticed that in the beginning when the prisoner started hitting Bruce for no reason, that Bruce was the only white dude there that was a prisoner. Maybe the other prisoners were just being racist and picking on him because of that? I mean I don’t see any other ethnicity besides Asian people there unless I missed something, which would make my theory totally wrong haha 😂
Also Ken Wantanabe’s “Ra’s al Ghul,” doesn’t speak an actual language. He just saying random jibberish. 🤣
If you’ve seen Vikings, then the actor playing Thomas Wayne might look familiar because he also plays King Ecbert

Ben Affleck is my favorite Batman but Christian is a absolutely epic Batman. In the comics Thomas Wayne Bruce's father was Batman as well but in the multiverse during Flashpoint the comic.
Bruce Wayne is very realistic and Battle hardened in this but he's more of a year one Batman. His enemies are a symbol of Bruce's visions and they match his alter ego. The only reason I like Ben Affleck better is because he is far more experienced and is tired of having rules. But here they got Batman's morals and ideals right and he has always been the guardian of Gotham.

    • @Sand420

He was an interesting take on Batman inspired by The Dark Knight Returns but besides his Outfit which is amazing and miles better than the Nolan's Batman I'm personality not a big fan of Ben Affleck at all in what we've seen of his Batman. A sole Batfleck movie could change my mind as he hasn't even gotten the chance to shine but the DCEU at the moment is a mess and I'm far more interested in Robert Pattinson's Batman and that whole universe. The DCEU is like the opposite of the MCU for me. I love the MCU but have zero interest in Sony's universe while with DC I'm far more invested in these Elseworld stories like Joker and The Batman than the mainline DCEU.

    • @onemoreminute0543
      @onemoreminute0543 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm horrendously picky with my preferred version of Batman as I feel that none of the live action portrayals have reflected the version I like.
For me, Bale was the best Bruce Wayne but an okay Batman, Pattinson was the best Batman but an okay Bruce Wayne. Ben Affleck basically of nails both sides but he's a much more cynical depiction of the character than most people are used to.
I still think Kevin Conroy in the animated work and the Arkham games is the best

Batman Assault on Arkham which is a Suicide Squad movie featuring Batman
