    When I was a teen, my youth symphony took a trip to Los Angeles. Yehudi Menuhin donated his time to give us a master strings class. He was incredibly kind and acted as if it were pure pleasure. An incredibly kind and gracious man.

    This was the first classical piece I ever ‘heard,’ in 1963/4, and it blossomed my love of music and this, my favourite violin piece. It’s so sweet and gentle, and underpins the orchestra of Furtwangler rather than trying to overcome it, as in many other recordings. Almost a lullaby. Pure beauty from the heart of Menuhin. Thanks, adobe!

      but the question is .... which is your favourite performance?

    • @MrKlemps
      @MrKlemps ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ceebee23 I have heard all of the above and the most satisfying for me is the 1947 performance with Furtwangler. Indeed it ranks with Szigeti's first recording and Bush's as amkng the three most spiritually and intellectually probing performances I've heard. Alas the quality and interesting wanes as Yehudi's technical difficulties, already making inroads as early as 1947 but movingly overcome, began to overwhelm him. The matching of Yehudi with Klemperer does have a perverse kind of interest: two great musicians with alpha temperaments that could not have been more unalike.

    The amazing thing is how very long was the career of this giant of the violin! He played this very concerto , in 1927, at age 12, with the New York Philharmonic. Fritz Kreisler, Mischa Elman and Artur Rubenstein were in the audience. It is said that Elman commented, after Menuhin performed, "It seems a bit hot in here?" To which Artur Rubenstein replied" Not if you are a Pianist!" He was truly one of the gifts of the universe to we poor mortals. He is missed.

    Menuhin must have had his happiest moment playing Beethoven's concerto when he had Furtwaengler's support! His violin was the most brilliant at that moment surrounded by the nature Furtwaengler provided him with so perfectly.

      Menuhin is a very sensitive person , could not performe Paganini în such a aggressive manner. He is made for soft perfomance. However, it is a beauty for my soul hearing that music.

    Прекрасный концерт настолько, что я даже не поверила, что это Бетховен. Играет Менухин великолепно. Дирижёр тоже, и оркестр в целом ! Так проникновенно играет только Перлман вообще и ,в частности, - Паганини -1 скрипичный концерт. Игра Менухина здесь превосходит даже игру Перлмана в данном случае. Эту запись можно слушать и слушать... Спасибо Вам - автору канала, выставившему этот концерт! Заходите и Вы ко мне в гости, вбить в поисковик: Дзен канал "Чудачка". Am immensely fond of all of Menuhin’s recordings of this concerto but the 1947 Lucerne remains my favourite . The others all have their merits - the Klemperer is all too often wrongly criticised it is serious but the finale dances - the Masur if fragile in tone is extraordinarily spiritual - all six give use something different.

      Just five years earlier, Menuhin and Furtwangler gave a performance of this Concerto that is way superior to this one, both musically and technically. It is probably the best playing Menuhin, at 31, ever did as a mature adult.(It's available on TH-cam.) From the mid-1950s onward, he became increasingly plagued by intonation problems and especially by an unstable bow arm. Even then, however, he could, on a good day, produce some phrases that were moving and memorable.
