If you play the violin you know how difficult this piece is. And if you play the violin you know how good Menuhin was. Especially at this age. The beauty of youth is usually lost in adulthood. However.
And that is Fred Giesburg of His Master's Voice chose Yehudi Menuhin to Record the Elgar Violin Concerto with Sir Edward Elgar and the London Symphony Orchestra again in 1932 and the Result has been a Classic of all time and has been available on 78rpm Record Numbers DB-1751 DB-1756 LP ALP 1456 and HLM 7107 and the two C-D's one issued by EMI in the Great Recordings of the Century and the other on Naxos and taken from the RCA Victor set and the Recording because it was a six Record set was issued in a album
As a Collector and admirer of the late Yehudi Menuhin and Having got a copy of this famous 1932 Recording in my own Record Collection I can still Marvel at the Sheer Beauty of the Playing and although the Recording is 88 years old it's still a Marvellous Recording
What do you Mean close to Perfection he already was as anyone can tell listening to his famous 1932 Recording of the Elgar Violin Concerto which he Made with the Composer on Thursday and Friday July 14th and 15th 1932 but was not Released till November of that year to Coincide with a Concert given at the Albert Hall for a Concert given to Mark the Composer's 75th Birthday(Record Numbers DB-1751 DB-1756 and Reissued in 1957 again by His Master's Voice on ALP 1456
I love the glissandi and portamenti, let the purists say what they will. It is a gorgeous recording, though my favorites are of Szeryng, Milstein, and Eisenzopf. Hoomeyow!!
I like the ENESCU 3. violin sonata on this cd with registrations as a young man. he is accompanied by his sister hephzibah. you can clearly hear the influence of his teacher enescu.
Like Paganini going trick or treating in scary costume. 🎃 Somehow Menuhin's score has more notes and nuances. The only really Mephistophelean version of this piece I've heard. I'm going to hide under the covers now.
i would kill to have a trill that fast and clean. no amount of practice can help; it's something you're born with. btw, what was that at 13:12 ? that was weird.

There are at least three. 1951 with Adolph Baller, 1953 with Gerald Moore and a live recording in 1952 with Marcel Gazelle. I think only the 1951 recording is available on YT.

Indeed.
When there was no social media to be imprisoned in.. And only pure soul to share with others. Like this masterpiece.
Incredible, and played with such emotion and feeling at 16! he was the best.

you mean 20. 16+4=20
Me encanta!!! 🤔😢😏.
Already close to perfection at 16 years. Thanks for sharing.
what is perfection?

Versuchen Sie es mal mit Anne Sophie Mutter. Ich finde, sie setzt den Maßstab.
Herzliche Grüße.

Ernsthaft?

Astonishing maturity from age twelve, such heartfelt vocalization of the violin, it sings!

Perfection, Yehudi Lord Menuhin.
The sound man did a brilliant job considering the technology available at the time.
lol ... it wasn't the 1600s ferchrissakes
@@greenveil9482 bro's acting as if he did it lmao

At 6:49, Menuhin is shown with Ernest Bloch who composed pieces just for him.
Learning this piece now. It’s so so difficult and he plays it so astonishingly well. Speechless
Not only Menuhin can play this at 16. He also very successful at age 61 taught a 16 year old to play this as well.
I like the ENESCU 3. violin sonata on this cd with registrations as a young man. he is accompanied by his sister hephzibah. you can clearly hear the influence of his teacher enescu.
I have in peace and in sorry when i listen. Thanks to yehudi.
It's perfect technique!

Magnifique, merci.

Of the performances I have heard, I think the best are by James Ehnes and Chloe Chua, with Arthur Grumiaux and David Oistrakh close behind.
Wow ! Beautiful ! Thank you for posting :)
AMAZING TALENT !
Sopotamadre!!! this is an amazing interpretation.
What a poet
Menuhin studied with Persinger although I did not see a photo of him with this teacher - perhaps I got distracted by the terrific playing.
great treasure!! thanks!! (and agree with Emilio Pessina)
A great violinist and more importantly a great man! I met him several times when I was a pupil at Highgate School, London N6
He said he could not play it as well in his latter years !
unique and awsome interpretation
Menuhin 💙
I wish there were a better recording because this is my all-time favourite version!
Merci Maitre
@11:34 16-year-old Menuhin poses with Sir Edward Elgar shortly before recording Elgar's violin Concerto.
Thank you !
After Paganini, just Jehudi,no more,no less, the most wonderfull of the World

Your non-stop, breathless writing style, is annoying, Mr. Cook. Hoomeyow!!
Would anyone know of his later recording❓

@ Thanks so much.♦️
c tres melodieux
😊😊
He played in the gipsy style with an overabundance of glissandi and vibratos to make the violin bawl.
Yeah! Soulful!
I would burn the neighbours cat with my mind, if i didn't listen to this at night.......
THE CRAZY PART IS HIS NEIGHBOR IS THINKING THE SAME 😂
" la langue universelle "
No, Georges Enesco is the best. Menuhin was his student...
Shovinesk stupidesk romanesk?😁
Ads between movements... how kitsch ; )
Yes, pretty absurd... youtube really goes to town as soon as the copyright behemoths get a whiff of something
