Asbestos illness is a largely unrecognised health issue in India, but with a booming industry and growing imports an epidemic is imminent.
"Asbestos has become a dirty word in the West". However, in India, factory workers often operate in a fog of carcinogenic dust and their children play in "toxic playgrounds". Unsurprisingly, respiratory diseases plague those that grow up in the shadows of these factories. Although the Indian government is subsidising the use of asbestos in the building industry, they are not the main culprits in this morbid tale. The majority of asbestos is supplied by Canada, a country that refuses to use the product themselves. "It amounts to Canada being a purveyor of death around the world". Selling Asbestos is big business and the Canadians may be opening a new mine which will triple their profits. The human costs of this move will also be huge, bringing the morality of their actions into question: "it is such double standards", says environmental activist Madhumita Dutta.

Canada has closed it's mines and stopped exporting asbestos. Now biggest exporters are Russia, China, Brazil etc. Where there is a demand, there is a supply. Narcotic drugs are also banned around the world, but the trade is on.

This comparison is not right. Most people who use drugs know that is illegal. But people using asbestos are not aware of its prejudice. They assume it is ok to buy, since it is sold commercially, legally. Drugs will always be traded, but asbestos could be easily stopped.

These poor folk I worked demolition for a while and every time we would come across asbestos we'd immediately shut down and call in the guys who literally need tickets(formal education) plus a full tyvek suit and gas masks. I worked at the real Canadian superstore and we had a section of the store basically every other one uses for a good life gym / board rooms we used it for storage because the building is old and that section didn't have its asbestos removed. It's amazing how we Canadians won't get anywhere near it, but will mine and sell it.

Yeah but charities are run like a business, where people at the top have a very high salary instead of being run completely by volunteers, most of the money is spent on paying the employees salaries and other expenses. What little is left is for the poor people.
If you want to help don't give them money, it only helps the middle man making fat profits in return for making people think they are making world a better place.
The only real way of helping is to be on the ground, working with the people who need help.
I was an unpaid volunteer for Oxfam raising money when most of the money raised was spent on the employees so I quit.

Dust levels low bull💩. In the USA OSHA passed regulations for cristilin silica. I have been a concrete cutter for 19 years. Even if you use water and we never cut dry. It will cause the blade to loose it's tenison. to cut concrete in an enclosed space like a large room you still need to whare a HEPA filter resporator , not a dust mask. I wore one all the time in my years on the job. These guys are fucked.
